No rest between sets vs yes rest

I just wondered - would it be a good endurance training, if we made minimal rests between sets. I mean, like 10-15 seconds rests. Or it is still better to take a minute or a minute and a half in between sets?

What do you think is better for one's muscle growth, and endurance?

Less rest and do each set to failure. That way you involve more of your muscle fibers.

I once read a study where one group did 1 set of each exercise to failure and the other group did 4 sets of set reps not to failure and the group that did sets to failure grew slightly more. I'll try to find the link to it.

Training with minimal rest between sets will keep the blood in the muscle and help illicit a bigger pump. It is a great way to train if you have physique type goals. If your goals are to increase strength, you want to wait 2-3 minutes between sets to allow your creatine phosphate stores to replenish so you can lift as much weight as possible on your working sets.

I tell all my bodybuilder clients to train like they are late for work. Develop a go go go type mentality. Take enough rest so you are failing because the muscle is fatigued and not because you are out of breath, but don't waste time talking to people at the gym and waiting 3 minutes to use the water fountain.

if you are training heavy you want to give yourself more time in between sets to rest. but if you are training what you are describing you can get in a great workout. a great way to build muscle endurance is to take 30 seconds in between sets.

I incorporate both into my routine.

I see some guys take 5-7 minutes in between sets to socialize and play with their phones.. if you want to improve you gotta push yourself harder then that

It depends on goals. If you are strength training, it is good to take a couple minutes between sets. If you are more of a bodybuilding style lifter, stick to something around 30-45 seconds. It seems tough at first but you will get used to this fast pace. You will be able to push yourself as you adopt this style.

In a way, I train in the same manner, because I am an advocate of the HIT training mentality, which involves minimal rest between sets, and I really like it. Obviously, it is not the perfect way of training, but either is the other way of training. Its just that the no-rest approach has advantages of its own (such as better muscle growth), whilst the rested approach has the advantage of developing better strength. Ideally, you would combine the two in order to get the best of both worlds, but if not, your way of doing things will also work wonders for you.

I vary my rest through out my workouts,I only take enough time to catch my breath,I like to say as long as you get two sets per song you are good to go

For whatever it may be worth, while off-cycle and during cutting cycles, I train without rest, as muskate wrote, as if I were late for work. I take four or five deep breaths and then commence the next set. During bulking cycles, I take breaks of between 45 and 90 seconds between sets.

yea im not getting the posts above. Why would you rest while your working out?? The whole point of lifting and bodybuilding is to introduce as many muscle fibers into the workout as you can and basically destroy them so they repair and come back bigger and stronger.

I don't fuck around at the gym, I don't even take my phone in nor have any music playing. instead I use my imagination and I picture everyone at the gym looking at me so I don't wanna look like a pussy and I workout like a mad man. my breaks between sets are minimal and just the time it takes me to switch weights and maybe have a sip of water then right back to it.

I even have a buddy that lives near me and he always wants to go to the gym with me. So that's fine and we go together but I don't look to him for support. he is a young kid who is always looking at his phone texting girls n shit. He likes to.workout with me so I let him, but if he is taking too long I'll just go in and do my reps. I think the gym partner thing is great, it's actually perfect IMO if you have someone who is focused and doesn't fuck around to feed off eachothers energy. just sux this kid isn't it.

There's actually a guy at the gym that I noticed that works out like I do and we go at the same time. I'm thinking about starting a convo and seeing if he wants to workout together. Someone who is not my friend and just there to workout, we can motivate eachother.

My rest consists of speed walking around a quarter mile track inside my gym. It has proven to really help me cut fat!
