Bo Jackson Workout.

SARMTAURUS

Bo Jackson was never really a weight lifter at all, the guy did calisthenics and cardio mostly on top of game practice. For a guy who played pro level like him I thought it would be a requisite to lift weights and make the muscles strong as possible, but I guess these guys value other types of functional strength. Imagine that!

being a great football player is very different then being a weight lifter.

I know that Steve McNair hated lifting weights.. he slept before games and was considered pretty lazy.. but he was a gifted athlete and naturally strong.

I've seen baseball players at my gym. the Atlanta braves players would drive in their fancy Mercedes bus and hog up my gym during their spring training. their workouts were laughable. you don't need to bench 500 pounds to be a pro athlete, you need mommy and daddies genes

Most sports are about the mentality and technique. I can give you an example from the world of tennis. On any major tournament you can see a top 10 player practicing and sparring agains a 200-300 ranked player. You won't see too much of a difference on the practice court, but you will see a major, a huge difference whey they play on a stadium with 10 000 people looking at them, and the mental pressure.

Sports are much more than just physique - it is a psychological thing, some people are able to deal with the pressure and perform to their best with their technique, and other can't.

lol @ Bo Knows weight lifting lol

I guess the mental aspect is most important in any game, I read the same thing about boxers never lifting weights.

we are used to heavyweight boxers from tv but most boxers are trying to make their respective weight classes and are incredibly lean and skinny. but they know how to punch and dodge.. and they have incredible endurance .. real life fights last not very long cause people get tired, but boxers go several rounds or more which is incredible.. there is an art to it and you have to know how to pace yourself or you will be screwed

Strength and athleticism go together for sure, but athletes are more interested in endurance and functional strength then being able to lift a huge amount of weight for a 1-5 rep max.

Big bulky muscles on a boxer would be counter productive because they wouldn't be as agile. Bodybuilders and boxers train VERY differently. A bodybuilder would workout for 60-90 minutes where as a boxer would train for 3+ hours to build up strength, as well as endurance.

Take the most ferocious boxer that ever stepped foot in a ring. He was 5'11 and @ 202 lbs or not much more. Look at his physique then. Literally nothing was there that did not have to be. Embarrassing black-dude calves, probably 18.5" arms, incredibly thick back and an over abundance of type 2 fibers. If he were bigger or had stronger lifts, it would have sacrificed something else that sometimes made his opponents shit themselves before round 1. I didn't care for him as a person, but he got my respect in that ring.
