What:
Melanotan was originally developed at the University of Arizona as a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring melanocortin peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH); in usage has been shown to have melanogenesis (tanning) capabilities.
When UV damage occurs in cells, the body responds by dispatching cells to repair this damage which then tan to protect the skin from further damage. This means that the user's body is not growing darker but is in fact tanning naturally with help from the peptide.
How:
Melanotan comes in the form of a freeze dried powder that requires the user to mix in bacteriostatic water and injected under the skin (often your belly fat much like a B vitamin shot) where it binds to melanocortin receptors ; A typical quantity is a 10mg vial. These receptors influence things like pigmentation, appetite, skin inflammation, and sexual function. One of the common side effects of the drug is increased libido and reduced appetite.
When mixed with sterile water, the melanotan 2 peptide becomes effective. 1-2ml sterile water will reconstitute the peptides. Diluting with more volume will improve dosing accuracy.
The sterile water is added to the vial when the user is prepared to mix it, after which the water is injected into the peptide containing vial. The powder will dissolve into the water and should remain clear.
Typically, insulin needles are to be used to inject or mix the peptide. These needles are 29 to 30 gauge by ½” with a 1 CC (100 units) capacity. It's possible to use larger syringes, however getting precise measurements can be difficult.
Contrary to popular belief injection is the only proper way of using this peptide. Many suppliers sell things like nasal sprays, pre-mixed peptide, oral pills and powders, few of which are what they claim to be. Similarly, pills of this type are also quite useless because enzymes within the stomach will render the peptide inert.
Why:
For practical purposes, this means that those that have fair skin, can achieve a rich, natural-looking tan even if they have an allergy to sunlight. This also means that these peptides make one of the best defences against skin cancer available, all without spending years trying to develop a tan that will protect the skin.
For anyone who is getting ready for competitions or frequents the tanning bed melanotan offers a far more natural looking tan at an accelerate rate. Melanotan is not only cheaper and safer than the tanning bed, it actually protects the user against future sun exposure.
