Well Fuck, just found out today that I have to have a couple surgeries on my arm. They are gonna be at least two weeks a part. So I'm gonna be down at least a month without being able to work out my upper body. Have any of you guys been through shit like this and if so what the hell do you do to occupy your mind and stay I'm descent shape?

I got a few degrees that way after a big car accident. I could not lift or even turn my head properly for nearly 2 years.

lift weights I meant.

Yeah of I had that much time I would love to go to school to be an addiction counselor. I'm not sure how long it takes. I need to start looking into it. But I don't think I'm gonna be down but a month or month and a half.

That's some really good advice, take your time off to better yourself in a different way. I agree with 2knives

Thanks everybody for the encouragement. Last time I had one I woke up in the middle of it and had a bad reaction so I'm a little nervous.

happened to me a couple times. mid cycle too. i just continued on with my cycle. Ate as healthy as possible and worked out whatever I could. You still got lower body so can do a lot in the gym. Keeping up with it will increase heal time

I haven't started my cycle yet so I'm gonna hold off until I'm sure about everything that is gonna be done.

Developing yourself in an intellectual manner is a damn good idea. Besides, look at it as a good and long rest that your body will benefit from.

I kind of been through this shit before. I got slip disc on L1-2 L2-3 L3-4 L4-5 & L5-S1. Which also means my whole lower back. I can't walk and got semi paralyze for 6 weeks even till today I still suffer pain every morning. What I did was do light impact cardio like swimming and after 3-4 weeks I started going back to the gym to hit mainly my upper body. Just remember listen to your body and don't push it too far for now. Gains definitely suffered but fuck it. All the best bro and hope you recover fast!

That's actually a really good idea. Use the time to do things you normally couldnt. I mean time is time that's not going anywhere. Your body will bounce back after. Focus on what will improve the future.

personal preference. When i had foot surgery i still worked out all the time. i just did everything seated. not heavy weights but lighter for volume. I don't think it looks stupid

I think misery loves company. I have a surgery appointment to get a tumour removed from my tricep tomorrow morning lol. I am looking at roughly a 2 week lay off from training upper body as well.

I am dreading the time off but I am going to use the time to focus on my interests outside of the gym and use the time off as a sort of a vacation. The time off will be good for you. It will remind you how much you love weight training and you will be more focused then ever when you are able to get back into the gym.

During my time off I am going to focus on writing some articles for my website and the board, focus on my online training clients, volunteer etc.
Don't make the mistake of being a hermit after your surgery. Put the time away from the gym to good use!

Well the surgery went well. I go back in two weeks to talk to the Dr about getting set up with plastic surgeon to have my arm pit reconstructed.
