is there such a thing as taking too much BCAAs? if i take them with every meal and i take bcaas after a meal and if i take them before and after training.

bro i think there is too much of anything...even water...but BCAAs you probably best to do like before meals and pre/post workout if you really want...

As Dmitri Mendeleev (the creator of the periodic table of elements) once said - everything is good with moderation, and everything is bad in excess. Well, taking the BCAAs even after meals is a bit of an excess. You should have more than enough with taking them before meals and trainings.

Too much of anything isn't good. BCAA are amino acids, the building blocks of protein. They still have calories. An excessive amount will just lead to fat gain from the unneeded energy supply.

Not to mention a waste of money

That is true, I learned that the hard way..

I would speculate yes...
One of the benefits of BCAA supplementation before working out is that it competes with the same receptors that process serotonin, one of the main neurotransmitters that creates the onset of fatigue. Too much supplementation throughout the day could lead to low levels of serotonin which are also responsible for processes of mood control (happiness) and sleep. This is just one thing I could forsee being a problem, but I'm sure there is more.

Pro-tip for BCAA supplementation: I would argue the best utilization of BCAA's is not pre/post-workout or before a meal but in between meals. You can have high blood protein levels but your body will shut off mTOR after a certain period, BCAA's (and particularly Leucine) are responsible for mTOR activation. Hence supplementation a couple hours after a meal will kick-start muscle building, theoretically allowing you to have constant mTOR activation throughout the day.

What you are referring to the first paragraph is the 'Central Fatigue Hypothesis' (http://jn.nutrition.org/content/136/1/274S.long) and it has to do with BCAAs competing with tryptophan for a transporter for entry onto the brain. So far the hypothesis hasn't panned out in the research as physiological bcaa supplementation hasn't been found to alter brain tryptophan.

BCAAs are useless if you are getting an adequate amount of protein from your diet. They would maybe be useful during a fast or training fasted, but that is it. Even then they won't make or break you.

Bcaa's are cool I wouldn't drop any significant cash in them though.
As for taking too much? Yes its definitely possible. BCAA's should be to get you by as a last resort bro. I have a container in my car as my "stuck in traffic after the gym" Bcaa's
