Difference between

whey is all derived from dairy.. the different types have to do with the filtration process

at the end of the day whey is PROCESSED. and most of you who drink it will get upset stomachs and feel like shit taking them. well that is cause you are consuming something that isn't natural. you are better off NOT using protein powder at all

I agree. But I understand how it is hard for people to eat every meal. My hubby relies on a shake because he simply cannot stop to eat. Personally I try to avoid as much as possible.

Respectfully disagree. I have been using whey powders since then 90's religiously and have never had any stomach discomfort regardless of the brand. I also strongly believe they are an absolute must for bodybuilders. In particular, competitive bodybuilders.

eventually you will.. your body will not be able to break down lactose as you age if you are using non isolate

also remember protein powders (or any powders) are heavily processed. it is the equivalent of eating an orange vs drinking frozen concetrated/pastueurized OJ. the body would rather have the real natural thing, not something processed.

the best thing you can do for overall healthy is stick to natural things that are not processed. and if you insist on dairy because you think it helps you then that is going to be almost impossible to find these days unless you live on an actual dairy farm

The whey vs food thing is over thinking. While Stevesmi is technically correct a LOT of food is in a far less than natural form. For example a burger is GROUND as opposed to being a piece of meat in its previous form. Yet, to use Stevesmi's example, you'd still get something nutritionally speaking from that frozen OJ. If we didn't we'd all be a long time dead.

That said is it ideal or optimal? No. Drinking a whey (ideally an isolate) is a convenient way to get protein in. But, in a perfect world, you'd eat a small high protein meal.
