So as men in are forties we adapt and improvise to stay in the game.
Pick a body part that you train and desribe how you performed that lift in your Twenties compared to now. Or maybe you've never had to adjust anything. interested to here Evolutionary techniques.

Strength and Honor....

bro im in your range...but ive tried to stay away from constant TRT because i felt it was a crutch IMO....

I pretty much train every body part the same as I did when I was in my twenties. But now that I just turned 48, I don't go as heavy. I am much smarter in my workouts now and I mix up my routines a lot, but I do squats four days per week and dead lifts 2 days per week.....RELIGIOUSLY. But the aches and nagging injuries, come with age. But I am still going to lift, as long as I can.

Age 50. Started lifting in 8th grade with Wieder plastic standard weights. Built great lats doing bent over rows. Two recent lower back discectomys mixed that. Now do most lat exercises but bent rows. I can do dumbbell rows because I can support myself on other arm.

I'm almost 41 now, and the main thing is I have to take care of my back. I'm in and out of the chiropractor enough, because of a genetic misalignment I have. As a result, I do higher reps on squats and deadlifts with a little lower weight. I don't go heavy too often anymore and growth responds great to the higher reps for me anyways

I had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and I have discovered, that deadlifts are therapeutic for my shoulder. It helps a lot.

I squat with a trap bar. Keeps weight off back and lowers center of gravity. Also employs almost entire body. Much easier on my back. Exhausting workout tho.

I just joined to 40 club today. I have issues with my hands/wrists, especially with my right. I lost about 75% of my wrist flexibility in my right hand, so I have a hard time benching as I cannot support the weight as much. Forget about push-ups unless I use stands of some sort or hold onto dumbbells.

Wish I could come in only 33

52 here....I love squats. They make me grow like a weed, especially in my torso and shoulders. Still natty ATM.
Currently squatting 365 for 25 reps (5x5)....I can feel the old bones and ligaments creaking once in awhile...

I'm in my 40s and the hardest thing for me to train like I use to is legs. I use to squat 405 for a couple reps, now, sadly enough I can't go over 185. I have chronic pain (like a soreness) in my quads which prevents me from going heavy and if I try to "tough it out" and put some additional weight on (like 225) I'll pull a hammy or pop a quad and then no legs for 2-3 weeks while I heal. It's embarrassing because I'm in pretty good shape with some size on me but I have women in my gym that can easily out squat me. I have no idea where the pain in my quads comes from... I've tried everything, stretching, heating them up, icing down afterwards but nothing works, which is weird. I could see if it was joint pain or arthritis which wouldn't go away but you would think that rest would remove the muscle soreness but it just doesn't, it's there even if I take a month off, very depressing!

i eat about 10-12g fish/krill oil compard to 3g for my joints......and im not all that old. But sports (contact) are catching up to me.

also take bulk cissus, warm ups are 15min instead of 3min. etc.

Being a power lifter from 1988-1997 i only lifted for the total ,which meant heavy weights , Started to compete in bodybuilding in 1998 and still lifted heavy and sets where 6-8 for the small and large was 10-12 . I am 46 now and i found out i had to drop my weights and up my volume so i could continue to improve. .
Reps 10-15 for the upper body and 15-30 for the lower .I still go to muscular failure but the failure isn't the same as it was using 405 for 6-8 on a incline. Now it is 315 for 10-12 squeezing at the top.
I know i am 46 ,but i don't feel like it,it does feel good when people guess 36-37 like they do ;)
Well intil my wife tells them my real age ,like she takes enjoyment in it??????? Bitch!!!! JUST KIDDING,well maybe right now:rolleyes:

I agree with stevesmi, that proper form is the best place to start. I am mid 40's and when I was younger it use to be all about how much you can, "How much can you bench 1 time?" I waived goodbye to that a long long time ago. I go 2 days on 1 day off, 2 days on 2 days off. Split routines, everything is done once per week and the off days are for cardio. Stretching is a big part and is done daily. The biggest difference is that my form is very good and I work out alone which keeps my time between sets to about a 30 second rest. I do different exercises with every workout and with the short rest time I am in and out of the gym in about 40 minutes, when I was younger we worked out for about an hour to an hour and a half. I enjoy working out now more than ever and fitness is definitely the fountain of youth!

The only Body Part that I Train Different is Mainly Legs.
Because Both Hips are Shot.
The Legs can take the Weight, but I Jam Up the Hip Joint.

So mostly when I Squat, it's either a "Free Motion" Smith Machine (the Bar isn't Static),(it can move back & forth about 4').
Or I use an "Upright Hack Machine", instead of the ones you usually see where you're Pushing up on an Angle.
Also have to be Careful on Dead-Lifts, again for the Hips.

I have to Fight the Urge to go Heavy.
I was an AAU Powerlifter in my Teens and 20's........................................ JP
P.S.
Almost forgot ~ I'm 62 as of February.

in my 40's now and it suksssssssss, haha. lots of injuries, but I just do lower weight now and higher reps.

Not much to comment on here but I respect older dudes so much in the weight room especially doing raw ass lifts

former power lifter 2 back surgeries and couple shoulder injuries all from lifting heavy
im 43 and still repping flat bench 315 till my shoulder went crunch its over for me with that shit moderate weight
higher reps and good form for me and if I feel one ping I stop and lots of cardio
