Intro

John Romano is a fitness industry veteran who has spent a career doing various jobs within the bodybuilding world. He is currently 62 years old and has a lot of experience throughout the 80's and 90's writing for popular bodybuilding magazines. He has lived in Mexico where he has owned property since the 1980's where he moved to in 1999. After six years, he then moved back to the United States to be closer to his son.

Profile

Romano various career paths have always centered around fitness and bodybuilding. It was his first love growing up and he became well known for his work as senior editor for Muscular Development magazine. While working for the magazine he put out numerous very outlandish and controversial articles which made him a lot of fans and also enemies.

He also has authored books including one that covers high protein recipes that are easy to make for someone who is in a rush and doesn't have time to cook.

The website RxMuscle is a website he is involved with as a co-founder.

He has also been on television on ESPN, HBO, and ABC as a steroid consultant and has written hundreds of blogs and articles over the years including Tnation. You can watch a video of him from Real Sports on HBO where he discusses steroids

He also ran a golds gym in Mexico which was an opportunity he had dreamed to do.

Fat loss steps

Romano recommends people looking to lose fat to change the way they live and eat. He takes a simple approach of exercise and limiting how much food you eat. Another area he believes in is weight training and building muscle because he says that having a lot of muscle requires a lot of calories to be burned.

When it comes to cardio he likes to recommend people do light exerciser on a stair climber or walking to keep your heart rate at 60-70% and to do it for 45 minutes. This strategy is not rigorous but he says it will help you burn several hundred calories.

He also believes in not cheating and you must have will power to stick to a disciplined diet, but he also admits that he likes to cheat once a week and not punish yourself. His cheat days are on Sunday.

He also believes in taking fat burners, eating low glycemic carbs like yams and whole grains, and keeping your insulin under control so prevent fat storage.

Goal setting

Romano beleives in looking in the mirror and imaging what you want your body to look like in the future. For this to happen his strategy is to be realistic and to realize you won't get the body you want overnight. He says a good idea is to take a picture of your current self and post it on the fridge, and then post a picture of someone you want to look like next to it, and that will tell you when you open the door what food to choose.

Nutrition

Romano has some constroversial nutritional advice. One of the areas he differs from other people is when it comes to fat. He believes in a low fat diet where you should only be eating up to 10-15% of your macros in fat. One area that isn't controversial is his belief in high fiber foods like green vegetables and ridding your home from junk food.

When it comes to fad diets he says to avoid them, and he also says avoid watching tv commercials because they are clever with their marketing to try and trick you into eating their unhealthy foods.

Training

Romano training he recommends isn't complicated.

He believes in pushing hard in the gym and training to failure. He likes to do full body workouts and mix in split routines as well. A strategy he likes is training moderately heavy, but not too heavy where you injure yourself. In recent years he has pushed CrossFit workouts as a good alternative for people who want to do something different.

Steroid use

Romano spent time in Mexico where steroids were legal. He has discussed having in person consultations and bringing people into the country to help them get cycles together for bodybuilding in a legal way. He has been an advocate for legalizing them in the United States and making them available and he has said they aren't harmful and it is media hysteria.

  • At his age a conservative cycle he might do is like this:
  • 250mg a week Testosterone Cypionate
  • 400mgs a week Primobolan
  • 4IU's per day HGH
  • Anavar 50mgs a day
  • low dose Clenbuterol/albuterol
  • healing sarms Ostarine MK2866 25-50mg a day
  • N2jointrx
