Sammy Sosa Steroid Cycle

Sammy Sosa is a retired professional baseball player, who played for MLB (major league baseball). His career was a very long one, from 1989 until 2007, spanning 18 years. Sammy Sosa is known for his big hits. In 1998, he was toe to toe with Mark McGwire trying to overtake the home run record set by Roger Maris. Roger had 61 home runs in one season. In fact, during the whole history of baseball Sammy Sosa is the only player to hit more than 60 home runs/season over 3 seasons. The man is a legend, but as with any legend there is always going to be something to tarnish his record.

Sammy Sosa Steroids

In 2009, an article published by the New York Times showed Sammy Sosa was on a list of baseball players who tested positive for PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) back in 2003. There was no direct discussion of the drug used, but it was assumed, by many in the media, steroids were used. In 2005, Sosa's lawyer testified before congress (the same day as Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire) that he didn't take any illegal performance enhancing substances. Therefore, the issue died down and he waited. In 2013, his bid to join the MLB hall of fame seems to have died (as reported by the suntimes) as many who would vote claimed the circumstantial evidence to his substance abuse was undeniable – with numerous witnesses to the case.

Sammy Sosa with Mark McGwire

Today, we'll be exploring a very controversial topic: the Sammy Sosa steroid cycle. Unfortunately, we don't have any hard evidence of actual steroids used, so we are going to attempt to recreate the cycle with the standards of today (no point going back in time). This cycle will be based on the modern version of steroid cycles that are required to achieve the kind of results Mr. Sosa had in baseball.
