NFL Week 5 picks

nfl-logo

Last week, I was 9-4 overall and 2-0 with my upset of the week and lock of the week, that's better than most 'analysts' out there, which means either I am very lucky or I know what I am doing. Prove yourself as well by putting in your picks for upset of the week and lock of the week on the main forum's pick thread and win prizes. There are no shortage of great games this weekend so its not the time to go fishing or do yard work.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (Thursday, 8:25 p.m., CBS).

Bridgewater should play in this one but the big problem is going on the road on a short week usually is a disaster in these situations. You always want to pick the home team on short weeks. This on paper should be a high scoring game because the Packer D is weak and Rodgers is hot on the other side, so expect lots of points. I have to go with the Packers at home and with Rodgers playing hot.. GB 38-31

Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots (Sunday 8:30 p.m., NBC).

The Benagals come off a bye while the Pats have played especially awful the past two weeks almost losing to the Raiders at home and then getting routed at KC on national tv. The Pats haven't lost at home in a long time and they haven't been underdogs at home in a longer time. Everyone is saying this is the Pats chance to rebound and prove to everyone they are an elite team, but I know better as Cincy will dominate this game as they matchup very well with the Pats. Cincy wins 31-17

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers (Sunday, 4:25 p.m., CBS).

This is the 2nd best game of the week. SF is not an easy place to play but the Chiefs have been playing amazing the past 3 weeks. Almost beating Denver on the road then routing both the Dolphins and Pats. This is a must win for both these teams as they need to keep up in their division. The edge goes to SF for being at home but KC is the hotter team right now so its a coin flip for me, I think the 49ers D forces some turnovers and gets the win. SF 27-24

Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys (Sunday, 1 p.m., CBS).

This is another great game as both teams are a 'surprising' 3-1, although keep in mind I picked both these teams to have rebound years so its not surprising to me. One of them will be 4-1. The matchup to watch for is the Cowboys amazing running game vs. the Texans front 7/8. They will likely dare Romo to throw so look for a lot of one on one matchups and play action. If you have Dez Bryant in your fantasy league this is the game to start him. DAL 27-23

Arizona Cardinals at Denver Broncos (Sunday, 4:05 p.m., Fox).

Another great game that will be interesting to watch. Arizona is coming off a bye and Denver is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Seattle. Nobody is giving the Cards any respect at 3-0 so this is their chance to prove everyone wrong. The problem is the Broncos will be hard to beat two weeks in a row and plus they are at home. I have a hunch that Arizona pulls it off thanks to their incredible defense. Too early to know if Palmer comes back for this as these picks are being put out early in the week, but even if he doesn't Stanton has been playing lights out regardless. ARI 27-24 UPSET OF THE WEEK

Seattle Seahawks at Washington Skins (Monday, 8:30 p.m., ESPN).

The Skins were awful last week at home vs. the Giants getting routed at home. Cousins turned it over all over the field so imagine what the Hawks defense will do in this game. Keep in mind Seattle is not as dominant on the road as they are at home and in this league teams tend to rebound after getting routed so this game will be closer than what people think. SEA 24-20

Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts (Sunday, 1 p.m., CBS).

Wow another great game. The Colts badly need to win to keep from dropping to 2-3 and Andrew Luck is playing MVP type football this year. The Ravens are not as good on the road as they are at home. The wildcard is Steve Smith, the guy is playing possessed but I think the Colts pull it off with a late Luck drive. IND 30-27

Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers (Sunday, 1 p.m., Fox)

This is a trick game. The Bears are playing better on the road this year than they are at home and the Panthers are on a bad 2 game losing streak. Who knows if Cutler lights up the Panthers D or if he throws 3 INT's and gets sacked 4 times? Its the reason the Bears are an 8 win team under Cutler. Luckily for the Bears the Panthers don't have any firepower on offense to take advantage of the situation so I like the Bears in a close game. CHI 24-20

Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions (Sunday, 1 p.m., Fox).

I thought about making this game my lock of the week as I am not a believer in Kyle Orton. EJ Manuel benching was stupid, if you draft a guy in the 1st round at QB you have to give him a chance to develop, this tells me they are giving up on him. I don't see the other players reacting well to this and does anyone think Orton will come in and save the day? I think I am going to go with Stafford outplaying Orton at home. DET 28-16

Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars (Sunday, 1 p.m., CBS).

Be careful here, this game has potential upset of the week potential. But then again, its the Jaguars we are talking about! Bortles is the wild card, if Glennon could carve up the Steelers secondary then Bortles should do well also. The Steelers need to run the ball and not let the Jags hang around, otherwise they could end up trying to stop Bortles on a final drive like last week. As much as I am tempted to pick an upset here I just can't do it. PIT 21-17

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints (Sunday, 1 p.m., Fox).

The Saints are back home where they don't lose very often. Both of these teams are 1-3 and the loser is in big trouble. The good news is since the division is so weak that 2-3 and you could be tied for 1st place. This is another game that is dangerous but having been to the dome in New Orleans that place is crazy loud and its a huge advantage for the home team. I cannot pick against the Saints for that reason. NO 27-17
