Squats alternative? ?

I know squats are a very good exercise, and so are lunges.... The only thing is, I am not able to do these exercises due to a screwed up right knee. After I pass about 45 degree bend, there's a ligament or something that pops in the upper outer portion of my knee and my knee gives out causing alot of pain.... I can leg press, do leg extentions, and leg curls with not too much problem. I have to position my feet just right for leg presses... I've tried same foot position for squats but still same thing happens. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but just looking for some advice or alternate exercises that I could do. Thanks for any help!!!

Leg press is first thing that comes too mind and there are a few diff kinds of leg press also. How are lunges on your knee?

My gym has great squat press machine. I love the range of motion it gives. Much better ROM than legs press IMO. Very easy on the knees. Not alot of gyms I've belonged to have them though.

I don't know if box squats would be that good for you considering breaking a 45 degree angle causes pain. Have you tried light weight during squats or is it any movement beyond 45 degrees?

How about either a Hack Squat Machine, there's Various Type's, or
Incline Leg Sled, and again there's a Few................................. JP
P.S.
Can you Push a Prowler, there Great.

It's hard for me to squat sometimes. I prefer to use the stance that a frog uses before it jumps for some reason it's so much more comfortable

For knee issues: box jumps and leg press.

Damn bro on a tear today with the shit talking. It must be shot day. LOL jk. What's up?

KRAZIEONE

I'm cool lol...just picking/messing on/with MT...but in a good way.
HAHAHA everyday a shot day...well soon anyway cause doing NPP/TestACE/Prop blast.

Front squats are specially designed to fix this problem. Takes it off the knees and sends the effort to the hips + quads.

I'm a Huge fan of the front squat but I disagree it would take stress away from the knee...a squat is a squat and requires external rotation.

I've tried front squats. They suck worse for my knee
I would never recommend fs for u...now you could try Goblet squats with a bench set just above where your knee gives....slowly try and increase depth over time....help strengthen knee joint

Carefull with leg extensions: apparently very hard on knee ligaments. I recommend doing them at low weight, high rep as warm up only.
Also, careful on seated leg press; puts a lot of bad stress on lower back.

So basically dont train legs?

Just watch it with these two on particular, especially if you are moving a lot of weight. If your knees are bad, or your back is (like mine) your options are limited. I've done my research on these two exercises. I do one legged squats and high rep squats using a trap bar- keeps center of gravity low. Much easier on back.

Have you tried the Hack Squat Machine, that's Upright.
Not the Sled Version, that has you Pushing back on an Angle........................ JP
P.S.
I have Bad Knees, Hips, and Back - I do the Upright Hack Squat without a Problem up to about 300 lbs.

Post Edit:
The Upright Version, has a Very Long and Wide Base Plate, that goes Up on an Angle at the End.
You can Adjust your Feet either on the Flat Part or the Angled Part.
This way it Varies the Emphasis from Hamstring to Front of Quad.
You can also go up on your Toes to Hit the Tear Drop.

Jp that machine is why I joined a 2nd gym last week. The Golds I use to train has that machine and I love it. So I joined just to incorporate that into my leg day.

That's one Sweet Machine.
That's an "Ole School" machine, a lot of the Newer Gyms have the Sled instead of that.................. JP
