What helps you sleep?

My father has not been able to sleep for a few years now. Gets about three to four hours of sleep a night. Sometimes less. Has anyone found anything that helps restore sleep?

I am not looking for Nyquil or otc sleep pills.

Anyone have ideas.

He also suffers from chronic migraine. And not sleeping makes it worse.

Any help would be appreciated.

The best thing he can do is to try and get in a regular sleep cycle. Try to wake up and go to bed at the same time everyday. Avoid stimulants (such as coffee) after lunch and try to unwind and relax an hour before bed.

Having a hot epsom salt bath around bed time helps a lot of people relax and sleep better as well. Foods rich in the amino acid L-trypthothan (such as turkey) also help.

Get N2Sleep. My wife also had sleeping problems lately, and should stay up all night. It is a very good supplement, mostly because it is natural and has no side effects at all. Therefore, it is an extremely safe thing to use. However, it still works great, and unlike sleep pills you will not wake up with a feeling of hangover the next morning. Instead, with N2Sleep you will wake you rested and feeling good. The dosing is pretty simple. Take 2 in the evening, and then another pill an hour before going to sleep. If a more pronounced effect is needed, you can take another pill right before going to sleep. However, usually people do not need any more than 2-3 pills to get a good nights sleep. I would not recommend using any more than 4 pills per day. Make sure not to drive after using these pills, as they are very effective, and you may fall asleep while driving.

He is retired so he can sleep all day if he was able to. He doesn't drink coffee, but he does take prescription medications for his chronic migraine . He also has a dr trying to help him with this. But the dr. has not done much to help.

Definitely take a look at N2Sleep. Another good product would be Nutrobal. It is an HGH analogue and is known to promote better quality sleep. You can get it from sarms1.com

Melatonin, ZMA and GABA helps with sleep a lot. If you want to get all of them in one supplement - n2sleep is the way to go.

Sleep is very important and there are a lot of things you can do to sleep better.. and there are things you can NOT do to sleep better too

diet
avoiding stimulants
learning how to relax
staying away from tv/computer before bed

you can take all the drugs you want, but that will only make you addicted and is the dumbest thing you can do long term.

natural supplements can be ran like n2sleep, the nice thing about that one is they didn't just throw a bunch of melatonin in there.

Marijuana is an option. Its suppose to relieve chronic migraines as well as help insomnia. Edibles might be the best option if you decide to try that route.

If this is the route you might try.....I highly recommend making your own "edibles".

When a family member of mine was suffering from cancer, and dying. he wouldn't eat, drink etc. I bought pot....illegally and made him oatmeal cookies.

If you choose this route....please do your research and be careful. Eating marijuana is a whole different ball game then smoking it.

Op, if you're still after an answer, make sure his medications aren't causing the insomnia. If so, it's either different meds or adding another to counter the side effect.

Aside from the good suggestions already posted, Benadryl works well with starting the sleep cycle. It's cheap and easy to try. And before getting into the lunesta/ ambien class of drugs, a good non-addictive med to consider is Trazodone.

Another thing to keep in mind is having complex carbs in a meal close to bed. If waking in the middle of the night, make sure to go straight to the kitchen and have both simple and complex carbs....something like a small portion of oats and honey in milk.

Tell your father to avoid taking naps in day timing and make his sleep schedule. Do not eat shortly before going to bed, avoid stimulants and engage in early exercise plans.

Thank you everyone. All great advice. I actually had him read this thread and he took notes. So I hope he finds some relief.
