Fish oil

Fish oil is fish oil. The brand doesn't matter. Look for a fish oil supplement that contains at least 180mg EPA and 120mg DHA per 1g capsule. I personally get mine at Costco.

For just general health - I recommend 3-6g per day for men and 2-4g for women.

If you have joint pain or are trying to improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels - I recommend 6-10g per day for men and 3-6g per day for women.

Here is a great thread for you to read where I talk about the extensive literature review I did on fish oil -> http://www.evolutionary.org/forums/supplements/another-reason-take-your-fish-oil-47032.html

so one of the Costco fish oil is 1 gram? and I should take 3-6 capsules per day-- and if I do the larger dose of 6-10 per day can I do it long term?

I use Carlson's Liquid Fish Oil.
It's 1,600 Mg of Omega 3's per Tsp. ~ with 800 Mg EPA and 500 Mg DHA.

They also make an Elite Omega in caps that's 1,250 Mg & Regular Omega that's 1,000 Mg.................................. JP
P.S.
The Elite Caps are 400 Mg EPA & 300 Mg DHA
The Regular Caps are 300 mg EPA & 200 Mg DHA.

The one I get from Costco I take 6 caps per day. That puts me just over 7g per day total. I love it and it is cost effective.

how long have you been at that level--- can I take that level long term? I have been taking 3 of them a day.

To be completely honest, if your diet is well balanced, you dont even need fish oil. For the sake of being sure I hit the mark, I just take 1 gel cap of krill oil from n2bm per day

Brand name doesn’t equal quality: You may typically buy all of your supplements from one company and trust that they do a good job. The problem with this approach when it comes to fish oil is that fish oil is susceptible to toxins and rancidity. You should always make sure that the brand has been independently tested for purity (by the IFOS) before you even consider it for supplementation.
