New Zealand Needle Exchange Program Guide
I know that the prospect of having to acquire and use needles can be daunting to new users of anabolic steriods or testosterone therapy and it is one of the high risk parts of enhanced lifting, however it doesn't need to be.
You have a large enough workload ahead of you learning correct intramuscular injection technique, dosage measurements, different measurement systems like insulin units, smaller that usual measurements like micrograms potentially too.
We are lucky in New Zealand to have one of the most successful Needle Exchange Programs in the world.
With the right information you can take all the pain, stress and expense of needle acquisition and disposal using legal, legitimate and mature government funded community organisations and pharmacies.
Your future muscles will thank you.
My aim is to make a a guide for kiwis on how to do self administered testosterone therapy using Evolutionary.org verified underground labs and the needle exchange program and avoid the public health system completely for our testosterone therapy.
This guide is the needle exchange part, which I hope will be of value to lifters who are new to injectable anabolic seriods, as well as medical testosterone users.
There are currently no verified sources in NZ. I hope we have a few in the near future and my thanks to the sources who are trying: @LifeForge or @SaintSoup, @kiwibulk and @SWOLENZ from my understanding. I hope you guys are all legit and are successful here on Evo. I will support you all in one way or another where possible.
The main things I want to show you in this thread are:
It's an active thread about New Zealand specific information so feel free to ask for more info to get feedback from the forum. I'm also happy to find things out for you if you get stuck.
A lot of new users are afraid to use the exchanges or ask for needles at the pharmacy and if they don't overcome this it's a matter of time until their hygiene routines break down and they start reusing their Amazon picks because new ones didn't arrive or whatever the case may be. The gear they give me over a month would run into hundreds of dollars buying online.
There's no need to be concerned about using any of the NZNEP services through pharmacies or branches.
The volunteer staff will be friendly and helpful. Lots of guys will be nervous and think they're doing something dodgy, etc but you're atcually doing the right thing not something wrong and not something illegal.
Everyone from doctors to parents with young kids to government health officials want you to use the needle exchange. You cannot lie to yourself about the nature of this. If you're going to use needles you must both learn to use them correctly so you don't hurt yourself, and learn to dispose of them correctly so you don't hurt others.
They're just tools you need to use, and like all tools they need to be maintained and treated in the correct way to keep working properly for you.
The NZ Needle Exchange Program is the key to both of those things.
It is important and a large part of why we don't have AIDS in New Zealand. You might think that's an exaggeration but it is not. We need to do our part to use the tools we need correctly, the government and community organisations are doing everything they can to help us, including giving us all the tools we need for free.
You need to dispose of them correctly from the very first pin. They will give you sharps bins on your visit. I get two of these types which last a month or more and take them in when I go get more fresh picks:
If you get stuck without or they get fill quick, you can use an empty drink bottle like a 1.5L plastic coke bottle for example then tape it up. They will take this at the exchange and pharmacy no problem though.
You need to think of garbage men and other workers too, you can't just throw dirty needles and medical waste into the council rubbish bins.
Types of NZNEP Outlets
There are 21 dedicated needle exchange branches and over 100 pharmacies in the NZNEP network.
The two main types of branches are main needle exchange outlets and the other is pharmacies but some community organisations also like sexual health clinics and mental health and addiction services.
The main branches are where you want to go initially and get all the supplies you need in one go.
Don't be shy, get every thing. They will likely make this happen if you tell them you're new to needles or muscle injections like I recommend.
That might be sharps bins, various types of 1ml, 2ml and 3ml picks to try, wipes, various tips. 10 or each tip and barrel while you figure out what works for you. Go once a week and get ten more barrels and tips. Dedicate a lockable container or case or draw to all your suppliers. One of those plastic knife and fork holders kitchen draws have is handy for this. I keep everything in the NZNEP branded paper bags just out of habit but that's thr best solution if when they're in your car or bag in public.
Some pharmacies have more tools than others but all will at least take your sharps bins with used needles and give you 3ml barrels with 27g tips. You might get 26g if you're lucky however I have been able to inject both types of testosterone enanthate I have without issue with them.
You don't need to take every sharps bin to the main needle exchange but you should make the effort to take them to a nearby pharmacy. Once you've been a few times you'll know where the big bin is and can probably do it yourself if you don't want the needles in return.
They want you to use the program and you will be welcomed at the exchange, or assisted at any pharmacy.
The main branches are:
After-hours Options
Branches are usually 10am-4pm or 1pm-4pm on Saturday but it pays to find out current info or call first. Main branches are all closed on Sundays and also on public holidays but most have after-hours vending machines.
You can drop sharps bins of used needles (not individually!!) through a slot after hours, and the vending machine means you can get new needles.
Most of the stuff in the machine is geared to IV street drug use but there's 3, 5, 10, 30ml barrels, mixing kits, wheel filters, pure water, and one kit with 3ml barrels and 26g tips.
This is the 26g kit:
There's also a kit with a drawing needle which may be useful to some. I have used the 26g tips from the vending machine for Testosterone Enanthate injections a number of times without any issues.
there's one after hours vending machine per city but some have PINs on Friday and Saturday night in the big cities, I only know three PINs but it will be a sequence of the same number, or you can call the afterhours number and ask.
There will be a pharmacy near you that you can dispose of all your sharps bins, however their injection equipment is limited. Most likely they will only have 3ml barrels, these are the ones they give you for free.
If you ensure you always have enough clean tips these 3ml barrels can work okay but it's difficult to measure small amounts and most new users have to do that.
For example my first testosterone dose was 300mg a week and I pin testosterone every day (ED) and a peptide every other day (EOD).
The testosterone pins were 0.23ml everyday, which is very inconvenient and difficult to accurately measure with a 3ml barrel.
Needles and Injection Supplies
On the wall at all the main exchanges there's a cork board with a sample of every type of tip they have, every barrel, and every accessory so you can see everything all in one place.
An example of the most common gagues and needle sizes for seriods which will allow you to inject most Testosterone Enanthate at TRT doses with ease is shown below:
The photo shows the gear they gave me on my first visit and you can show it to them if you want the same, it will be sufficient to get you started with your testosterone therapy and for many common injectable anabolic steriods:
Here are closer photos of the two different lengths of 25g tips I use with the 1ml luer-lock barrels or the 3ml barrels from the pharmacy or vending machine:
The shorter ones are useful for some muscles and the longer required for others. You can also use one type to draw and one to pin to keep things organise if you favor one over the others, but being competent with injecting into several different muscles and rotating injection sites is strongly recommended.
Guides and Booklets
They publish various guides and booklets, flyers and pocket references, some of which may be of use to anabolic steriod users and TRT patients.
They have several about anabolic steriods, the main being Injecting Anabolic Steriods which I have scanned and posted to my log.
If you're new to anabolic steriods and needles these may have some use however the sections on injection technique are too vague.
I recommend you consult a medical training video source and get video demonstrations from doctors and nurses, and to ask the staff at the needle exchange to help you.
There's a physical flyer of all pharmacies and branches inside the NZNEP system ordered by region. I will scan this and post it in a message in this thread.
Safe Use of Needles
This is not an injection technique guide but as it is aimed at those inexperienced with needle use I have tried to give an overview of common problems you may encounter
An access is an infected lump that's filled with pus under your skin. Best to get a doctor to look at them. If you are freaking out after an accident and don't want to use the ER or your GP/family doctor the needle exchange has doctors oncall and can assist finding you a doctor who knows what you've been doing
Focus on unfucking your leg else everyone will soon know. Remember you're not doing anything illegal and you legitimately need medical attention which you're entitled to and will receive if you ask. Don't hide your injuries away out of shame, guilt or worry.
If you feel around the lump and it's warmer than the rest it's probably infected. There's other issues like cellulitus and more I can't even think of, you definitely need a doctor if anything is spreading, getting increasingly sore or continues swelling.
There's a clock ticking on this, don't get stupid ideas like trying to lance the thing yourself or take random antibiotics in the cupboard just go to the doctor. There's several causes but for us it's likely going to be dirty hits from needle reuse or poor injection hygiene or contaminated oils, bunk or fake gear.
Another problem is they don't just appear at the injection site. If a lump starts forming, especially if it's hard and warn, you can try hot compression. Wet a cloth in hot water and fold it over a few times and hold or wrap it around the area tightish. You're trying to make it come out or go away - do this three times a day at least.
This has worked for me before but can't be sure exactly what the problem is, it was risky not seeking medical attention.
While less likely to happen to us than street-drug users infections like septicaemia aka blood poisoning, endrocarditis, a heart lining infection and tetanus are possible and caused by bacteria getting into your bloodstream and they can be fatal. Correct hygiene and clean legitimate gear and not pinning a vein will avoid them.
It's close to your femoral artery and injuries in this area often lead to amputation or death. There's not a great need to do this with intramuscular injections but a lot of inaccurate information about quad and leg injections plagues anabolics related information so just keep this in mind. The quad needs particular attention and the outer upper quad is where you should aim for
If you hit one of these you will know all about it without prior research. Some people pull the plunger back to check, if it fills with bright red or pink blood it's an artery though it's best to look at maps and avoid the possibility all together. You don't want to stab in the dark.
Glutes, outer quads and deltoids are common but this subject of how and where to inject needs specialised research. There are many good resources online with video demonstrations but I just told the staff at the exchange that I'm about to start self administered trt and have never done a muscle injection and they walked me through the entire process, they were incredible.
If you peice the needle through the rubber stopper on your steriod vial it will blunt the tip into a hook, it will no longer be a sharp point. Think what it does to your muscles forcing that in instead of guiding a fresh, sharp needle tip gently into your muscles.
There's bacteria festering in your used needles, do not raid the sharps bin, I know you'll think about it. If you do they're called "dirty hits" and you're rolling the dice with what will happen next. Might get SWOLE sooner than expected. Obviously don't share needles with others or use theirs. If you must then try go first!
They will give you alcohol wipes and sterile water but you should also get hand wipes or alcohol based hand sanitatiser and get in the habit of doing that, swabbing your ass before you pin, etc.
Constantly injecting into the same spot can cause various issues and an effort should be made to learn to pin in several muscles and not hit the exact same spot too often.
If you must there's the 2 x 2 x 2 method of cleaning needles:
- Flush out twice with water
- Flush out twice with full strength bleach
- Flush twice again with water
Remember your pick tip will be barbed. Means it's in a hook shape not a point shape if you look with a microscope or carefully with your eye
I'm working with the NZNEP staff to try and get get access to test anabolics with their gascromategraph machine, one with a database of drugs and chemicals.
The machines they have at international airports and feature on the TV show Boarder Security. It is my hope that we can test for the presence of the expected ingredients, and preform heavy metals testing on the oils.
Three days a week they bring the machine in (mon, wed, fri) in the afternoons. I will update the thread with the progress of this.
