Just ordered an engagement ring....

Congrats

I was a jeweler in my previous career. If you need any advice on the engagement ring or wedding band proccess I'm happy to help.

I saw many men panic when buying a ring. The biggest panic was usually form the sticker shock.

Good luck with that, make sure you get a solid prenuptial the agreement regardless of how great yiur marriage is. Protect your assets

Is the nausea normal? :p

Yeah Brother, that's called "Sticker Shock", when you see how much you'll be Dropping for that Ring.

And then after that the Wedding and Honeymoon and a House and Kids and Medical and Schooling for the Kids and should I go on.

It's quite normal, have a Drink and relax, you're going to Experience the Agony and the Ecstasy.

Hopefully, it will be more Ecstasy......................... JP
P.S.
Congratulations !!!

Thanks so much for the kind words you guys :) It feels like the right move deep down (if anything, she should probably run :D ), so I'm guessing its just that sticker shock like jp and fish mentioned lol.

Yeah it's normal, but nothing compared to the suicidal thoughts you'll have once you're married...

J/K congrats Bro!

I remember that feeling of getting married.......only thing better was the feeling of getting the Marriage Dissolution paperwork. Now thats a great feeling.....

Both are great feelings...just depends where youre at in LIFE LOL.

Congrats man...if I find a solid lady, I plan on doin it again.....I think....maybe....doubtful....who knows...

You guys no I'm a romantic. Lol. I love being married, mainly because my husband is the shit and super hot. It's a super fun time, you will love it. Congrats!

J/K congrats Bro!

Nah, the Suicidal Thoughts come when you have 2 Young Girls that can Scream at an Octave above High-C.
And they Invite 8 of their Girlfriends, and they all start Screaming at once.............................. JP
P.S.
A few times.
I wanted to Light my Hair on Fire and go Running down the Street.

Yea yea.....I agree with jp. I have 3 girls. .....1 is "fancy" nails, hair the whole nine yards....she's 5. I literally want to pull her out, then run down the street...lol

I'm totally in settle down mode, so I might be looking forward to the whole thing more than she is ;) Solid would be a great word to describe her and checks off all the things I always looked for. Funny, I was in a 5 year relationship and never once did I even consider the idea with that one. But thats another story.

That's how you know it's real. I was in a relationship prior to my hub.....he was talking marriage. My excuse...I said I was to young. Funny, I met my husband and we are married with 3 kids before my set age of marriage.

Ha, same here. I was in my mid 20's so I said we weren't ready yet. In actuality I've always been a settling down time even at a young age, so it really was just that I knew she wasn't the one. But I wasn't wise or experienced enough to know what to do with the situation, or how to get out. The couple times I've tried the random game, I can't say I really liked it much so to finally find the one is a big relief.

Change can frighten, but change is always good. Congrats, and don't worry - it is an absolutely normal thing to feel nervous when you make such important decisions.

I'm in the jewelry business, have been my whole life....if you realy want to get nauseous, tell me the specs and how much $$ you paid and I'll tell you the wholesale price......lol

Please don't tell me you went to one of those chain jewelers.....

jewelry stores simply take your money and order it whole sale then add 10-15% plus tax.. they are just a middle man

go to james allen website and buy the diamond direct.. you will save a fortune

I would also recommend to do research on the 4 C's of buying a diamond.. clarity, color, cut, and carat.

based on my research cut is very important, but it costs more of course. I would rather buy a smaller carat and have a superior cut. color and clarity is important too, I would go with VS2 minimum and H minimum on color. too many people mistakenly buy a diamond based on size, this is a huge mistake. a big diamond with flaws to the naked eye which has a lot of brown in it is not as impressive to look at then a smaller diamond that is shiny and clear

as far as the band just get a cheap 14K one, you can always buy her a nicer band 10 years from now.. no reason to drop a G on a fucking band, invest in the diamond for now

Thanks for the info Steve. I was actually looking at James Allen website this morning and it looks legit and well priced, it's just hard for me to spend thousands of dollars online without actually seeing the ring in person. I'm going to research like you said because all of this cut clarity whatever bs has me all over the fn place.

^^^ I was the same way myself, I wanted to see the diamond... but the diamonds they have on there are the real one you can buy so they give you a good view. and you can send it back within 30 days if you don't like it

the jeweler wanted 15% fee plus sales tax on top of that.. plus they were not very helpful or knowledgeable at all. I was very impressed with the help I got chatting with some people at JA, they were very helpful and honest

I also looked at blue nile and the prices are good too, but you can't see the diamond, only the specs.

also at JA they have good explanations of the 4 C's.. I didn't know shit AT ALL on this stuff but I learned it all really fast.. you can play around with the specs and see how it changes the value of the diamond but I would go with a minimum VS2, H, and a good quality cut. then you can play around with carat size from there to fit your budget.

don't make the same mistake the rest of us have made lol. nausea is a warning sign that your are in too deep!

Man, whatever you do, don't go to any big jewelry store......go to look around and see what you like. Get the exact specs of the stone, setting, etc and shop around and do your homework....

I can tell you, retail jewelry stores have a %3000-6000 markup, it's insane....

To certain extent....but the retail jewelry business, by the time buy, you've paid out about a %300-600 mark up from its actual value....

Some pieces they buy from the manufacture, there's a small Mark up on their part....

but dealer prices, like what a dealer would pay for a stone, that's true wholesale.....

i bought a decent 1ct round the other day for $700, sold it to another dealer for $1150, he'll put it in this shop for probably $1700, end up selling for $1500....but that same ring would be at Zales or Jareds for $3500-$4000......that's the true insanity of wholesale vs retail with jewelry.....idk how they get away with charging some prices customers tell me about...
