No it does not. You are most likely sleeping on your side which slightly restricts blood flow to your arm and makes the limb have a numb feeling. Notice how your butt feels numb when you sit too long? It's the exact same thing.

Sleeping on you side won't effect muscle growth or recovery in any way. However, sleeping on your back is best for spine health. Try sleeping on your back. I used to be a side sleeper as well but ever since I switched to sleeping on my back, my lower back feels a lot better.

It makes sense when you think about it logically as well. When you sleep on your side, gravity puts all your body weight pressure onto one side of your body. When you sleep on your back, the weight is evenly distributed throughout your entire body.

thanks for chiming in muskate, your knowledge and advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm a side sleeper and it isn't good at all. if you can learn to sleep on your back that is the best thing.

you also should consider getting a softer mattress if you side sleep. muscular side sleepers like us should not be sleeping on firm mattresses. that causes a lot of crunching in the shoulders and crushing our arms

I'm a Side Sleeper due to current circumstances.
So I've been using alot of Pillows to help Cushion my Body, it helps.
But on occasion I still get some Numb Fingers.
But I think it has more to do with my Old Back Injuries, that caused some Nerve Damage.

They make Body Pillows if you Sleep on 1 Side most of the night.
I use Small Pillows, cause I Toss and Turn alot to try and get comfortable.
So a Body Pillow is just Too Big for me............................................. JP
P.S.
My Best Position has always been on my Stomach, when it's Not Too Painful.
Sleep like a Stone, and Wake with Abundant Energy.

This is not going to cause any issues with muscle growth. It might be uncomfortable when you wake up but it is not doing any damage.

I would love to learn how to sleep on my back. I have been sleeping on my stomach forever which is the worst.

You simply restrict the bloodflow and it makes the arm go numb. Happens to me pretty much every time.

All of the advice above is true. I suffer from this issue as well.

Above and beyond trying to change the way you sleep....an adjustment from a good chiropractor can really help here. Right in between the shoulder blades is usually the area that causes this issue.....

For me the gear I use and the water retention makes cutting if circulation easier, the fuller the arm the more pressure the veins have on them, for me it make the arm fall asleep faster. That's just my personal experience.
