Quest Protein Bars

There was a time when they used to be good, but for some reason over the years they have gone from bad to worse. Obviously, if you are regarding them as a cheat meal, then they are ok to use, but what you want is actually protein, and not some sugars, then you would be much better off with a protein shake in my opinion.

The problem with protein bars/cookies is that they have a lot of carbs and fat in them. To make the product into a bar or cookie, they need to add carbohydrate and fat binders. Even a low calorie protein bar is going to have at least 5-6g of fat and 20-25g of carbs.

A protein shake on the other hand will be virtually carbohydrate and fat free. You get the high quality whey protein without any of the additional calories.

What I would do in your circumstance is sort of make your own 'meal replacement shake'. Add some oatmeal to your whey protein shake and then have maybe some almonds and a piece of fruit a long side of it. It'll be way cheaper and be much cleaner calories.

You can also make your own 'no bake' protein bars by mixing oatmeal, whey protein isolate and natural almond butter together. Mix it all together and make bars. Then roll the bars in shredded coconut or nut slices so they don't stick together.

i actually tried one of these bars to see what the big deal was about.. i think i have bought 3 in the past 3 years.. each time i ate one my stomach felt heavy and i felt naseaus.. now you may not feel that way and that is great, but if it makes me feel like shit then obviously something is wrong. they do contain a lot of stuff in them that are not good at all

I wouldn't bother with a protein bar at all. They are pretty much garbage fillers and crap added to the actual protein. You would be much better sticking to whole foods and for supplements just have a shake instead.

So are Quest Bars still the go to bars these days? What are you guys using when a "bar" is necessary?

No bar is ever necessary. I looked into the way even the best are made back when I had my own supplement company. The very best are those you can make yourself (there are suggestions of how to online). The reason being freshness and fewer additives. In order for ANY company to offer a decent shelf life for these products they HAVE to take away some part of the nutritional benefits you'd want them to have.

As others say - think of them as either a treat or for emergency use only.
