Introduction

Welcome to another episode of the IronOverload.io Hardcore podcast.  In this podcast #77, Steve and Mobster discuss Antoine Vaillant and his life and career. They also go over his social media influence, diet, and training, and the guys speculate on his steroid cycle based on what we know he likes and has talked about.

Early life and career

Steve says Antoine Vaillant was born in 1987 in Montreal, Canada.  He started bodybuilding at 15 years old and loved watching Arnold movies to pump himself up.  The 2 body parts he wanted to copy Arnold with were the arms and chest, so he started doing pushups every day which didn't get him as far as he hoped.  This led him to join a gym where he experienced some rapid improvements to his physique which helped push him even further.

He earned his pro card by winning the 2012 Canadian Nationals.

From there, he finished 14th at the New York Pro in 2013, and 16th at the IFBB Toronto Pro supershow (which was last place).   During this time, he went through heartbreak via a breakup and he spiraled into drug addiction.  Towards the end of 2014, he found out a friend's brother had OD'd in the same shed that Antoine would use to get high.  He went to rehab but nothing worked, and he kept relapsing, and it got worse and worse. Finally, he found a no-cost rehab clinic in Canada that took him in and helped him clean up his life.

He was able to make a comeback and finished in 4th place at the Toronto Pro 2018, 7th at the 2020 NY Pro, and 1st at the 2020 California Men's Pro.   In his Mr. Olympia showings in 2020, he got 14th place, and in 2022 he tied for 17th place.

Social media influence

Antoine is all over the place on social media.  He has Twitch, YouTube, Instagram, and a personal website and store.  He is involved in promotions and businesses for shoes, supplements, equipment, and ebooks.  Another thing he does is various podcasts and interviews as he likes to keep in the limelight.

Steve says he interviewed Antoine years ago on the podcast.  https://soundcloud.com/user-594306228/evolutionary-radio-episode-176

Diet

Steve says that Antoine goes carb and protein-heavy with a small amount of fat.  This type of diet works well for him and it's simple and efficient for a bodybuilder of his size.

Meal 1: 8 Egg Whites 8 oz. X-lean Steak Patty 1 cup of Oats

Meal 2: 10 oz. Chicken 2 cup White Rice

Meal 3: 10 oz. Chicken 10 oz. Sweet Potato

Meal 4: 10 oz. Chicken 1 cup White Rice

Meal 5: 10 oz. White Fish with Veggies only

Meal 6: Protein Shake before bed

He also does 30 minutes of bicycling before he eats breakfast (fasted cardio).  Steve explains the benefit of doing this type of cardio before you eat your first meal of the day and why it's important to stay lean year-round.

He also takes a variety of supplements including multivitamins, liquid carnitine, pre-workout pump products, whey protein, glutamine, and carb supplements.

Training

Mobster discusses Antoine's training in which he believes in great mind-muscle connection with legs (mentions 103 reps with 1000lbs leg press which messed up his hip for a year) vs a very poor mind-muscle connection with his back. It took him YEARS to do less weight and work the form.  Another interesting thing is he constantly changes routines, even week by week.

The sample Antoine Vaillant Chest Workout that Mobser goes over is as follows:

Pec Deck Flys: 3 sets x 15,15, burnout.

Machine Decline Chest Press: 4 sets x 10 reps.

Dumbbell Chest Press: 4 sets x 10 reps.

Machine Incline Press: 3 sets x 10-15 reps.

Steroid use

Mobster says that he states he comes off of all gear for certain periods to give his mind and body a break.  Mobster theorizes it has to do with his health and or the mental aspect of his addictive personality.  He says he has to use harsh steroids to be able to compete but knows about how damaging they can be.

Some of Antoine's cycle strategies include:

*No orals until last 4 weeks, due to the health impact which he is monitoring all the time now via his doctor friend

*No tren until the last 4 weeks as well.

Here is a cycle based on what Antoine has said he likes and what guys are running that he competes with:

Testosterone 1000-2000mg per week.

Masteron 600-800mg+ per week.

4 weeks only Winstrol and Anavar 50mgs per day each and Trenbolone 300mgs a week.

Steve says when he interviewed him 6 years ago he hated the thought of using insulin and said it was pointless. However, it doesn't mean he didn't use it out of necessity since then.
