protein shakes before a comp

my current coach wants me to completely eliminate protein shakes a month out of competition. is this sound advice ? i asked him to explain and he went through a long reason scientifically then said that he had been in the game a long time and listen to his advice. want to make sure he is making sense
 
that is sound advice. dairy is a poor idea ahead of a competition since it is very inflammatory and will bloat you up whether you believe that or not. i don't consume dairy at all in my diet except the occassional grassfed cheese maybe once or twice a month as a treat.
 
I would agree with him. They tend to cause gut inflammation to varying degrees, which could potentially lead to a bloated look.

You have to trust your coach and follow the program you are paying for, it is OK to research everything he advises but in the end you have to trust him. Please keep in mind bro that you will not find every piece of fitness wisdom on Google, some stuff only certain guys know about in the real world. As far as the protein shakes themselves, I can tell you first hand I have coached people from many walks of life and some times I have had good reasons to take someone off the protein shakes and some times I have had to force guys to add them to their regimen. I can tell someone to go either way with it, in the end it all depends on what that individual needs to get to his goals at the moment.
