Rest Time Between Sets — Timer or Just Go by Feel?

How do you guys manage rest time between sets?

Do you use a timer (like a Beper or app)?

Do you stick to fixed times (30s, 60s, 90s, etc.) depending on the goal?

Or do you just go by feel?

Personally, I use a Beper set to 1 minute and follow it strictly.
Without it, I tend to take longer breaks without even realizing how much time is passing. The timer helps me stay consistent and keep the pace up.

Also, (if) you're enhanced, do you find that shorter rest times work better since recovery is faster, or do you still keep longer rests for strength?

Curious about everyone's approach, especially in relation to intensity, hypertrophy, and performance.
Do strict rest periods really matter, or is it overhyped?

Let’s hear how you guys do it.

I suggest most clients do around 20-30 seconds between sets to shorten the time on cuts, and on bulks about 1:30 depending on the goal. Heavy weight vs light.

@Phill bros i don't like to wear watches or jewelry at the gym. so i just breathe in between sets, sip some water. walk around a bit then hit my next set when i think i'm ready

Compound movements generally wait around 90s-2mins between heavy sets. Enough time to drink water, catch my breathe, re focus and hit it again.

Isolation exercises i aim for around 60s-90s max.

Bodybuilding style training for reference

@Phill most gyms have a clock but you can just use your phone!

Depends on my training. When I stay between the 8-12 rep range I do 1 min max. When I am lifting heavier between the 4-8 rep range I don’t go over 2 min.

Everyone different

Are you still doing such short rest breaks when you are doing heavy reps?
Yes i do. Might not be as heavy as a could with longer rest. But my age this training style it lot better on my joints.

Ok, so even though you are not lifting as heavy as you could, by having less rest time you can still achieve similar gains because you are going back to lifting with muscle not fully recovered from last set therefore similar muscle breakdown as a heavy lift?
