Veteran Log Why fasting helps you live longer, helps build more muscle. and my prolong fast LOG

Ya as long as people are an effort to keep improving that's what's important. Eating really really well is super expensive. These farmers and health food stores know they can charge a lot more for they have and people will pay it. When I go to our local health food store I pay 5x what I pay at the grocery store for similar products.

Don't get me started on the butcher shop lol. That salmon I posted in my log last night, $40 for 1 large fillet to feed 2 of us. The farm raised stuff at the supermarket probably would have cost about $15
True that, quality food costs a fortune now. You’re right about the markup, those local farm markets and health stores know people chasing better ingredients will still pay the premium. I've seen "organic" steak 3x the price! I guess thats what you saw with salmon too, I think that's all around now 3x for "organic" and sometimes it's not even organic just a label :P

Sounds really good. Could be a great snack to keep handy for my Tren cycle coming up.

What do you figure the macros are on 1 bar?
its got a lot more carbs then people think. you can always adjust it. but when i go fishing for hours it works great for after when i get hungry

Yea I worry about that fake organic stuff..the place I shop at seems pretty legit. With meat you can always taste the difference tho so no fooling me there haha

Yea seems like a ton of carbs. That's why I was askn lol. Seems more carb than protein. Good for a Tren cycle tho. I can eat one before bed and snack on them during work

I don’t track carbs. I’m not a macro follower. But if you use quality ingredients this one is free of the preservatives additives and garbage of store bought bars. Which is what I do worry about

Yea that works good for you cuz you're an endurance athlete machine bro. I'm only human over here haha.

I'm gonna give these bars a go on my next cycle. Should save me from eating pancakes in a cold shower right lol

Ton of organic are fake at least 20-30% but not all of course.

People can't help but scam to make a buck. Here we got people buying stuff at the supermarket and setting up stands at farmers markets in the city lol.

you won't ever see me count macros on this log.

the simple reason is carbs, fats and proteins are all different.

if you eat healthy that is more important. its not about what you eat a lot of times, its about avoiding the wrong things

these bars i made likely have lots of calories and carbs in them. but one thing they don't have is the junk found in store bought bars that are toxic in our bodies

For sure. Food quality is most important in my books too.

For someone like you too you don't need to worry about macros cuz your style of training. You work so hard you're going to utilize everything going in.

I guess it just depends on your goals and what you're doing. If you're a BB trying to gain or cut then you need to stay on top of your macros.

If you're a powerlifter then not so much.

the way i look at it is

1. our ancestors never counted macros
2. no animal in the wild counts macros.

i never ever have my clients count macros. i have them eat quality whole foods and avoid the crap.

Makes sense. But you're a lifetime athlete too so you're a very special case.

If I ate as much as I feel like I'd blow out my waste and get pretty fat quickly probably lol

nah man. i'm not saying eat as much as you like. def don't do that. I'm saying don't fall into the IIFYM trap of being concerned with how many calories and carbs you eat. our bodies aren't so analytical

and i do not burn as many calories as you think. i sit on my ass most days up to 18 hours working. 7 days a week.

i stay lean because of fasting and not putting any trash in my body. i lift weights to build muscle. i do cardio to build a strong heart. i see people in the gym training more hours then me who stay overweight cause they aren't doing the right things in the kitchen

i recommend taking a look at a book called the obesity code by dr. jason fung. he is canadian. he is one of those anti-IIFYM people who have been proven right over the years especially with his fasting ideas and his insulin sensitivty tricks. he has been proven right because GLP's have proven him right. but he always backed his ideas with actual studies.

i sit on my ass most days up to 18 hours working. 7 days a week
Lol!! Yea but when you get off that ass you're bootcamp training, running marathons, of swimming against the current lol. Don't make yourself sound like some typical office guy lol.

I'll look into that book. I knew a Jason Fung, I wonder if it's the same guy. He was pretty smart.

I eat almost no processed food at all. Everything is whole, organic, pasture raised, wild caught and antibiotic free. I'm on the same tip as you with the concern about what goes in my body. Just not as hardcore haha. The only prepped food I will buy is usually a hot sauce or hummus but I always make sure I can read everything on the label and know what it is. None of that chemical stuff. All I drink is water or coffee. Got a special filtration system for my water that gets the chlorine out with all the other stuff too.

This is one of many reasons you should stick to REAL FOOD vs. powders. you simply do not know what goes into a powder, but you will know what is in single high quality whole foods. example the only ingredient in an organoic sweet potato, grassfed beef, and organic brocolli is what they are. but with powders and bars you have no clue

https://www.consumerreports.org/lea...akes-contain-high-levels-of-lead-a4206364640/
Protein supplements are wildly popular, but CR’s tests of 23 products found that more than two-thirds of them contain more lead in a single serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day
Protein powders still carry troubling levels of toxic heavy metals, according to a new Consumer Reports investigation. Our latest tests of 23 protein powders and ready-to-drink shakes from popular brands found that heavy metal contamination has become even more common among protein products, raising concerns that the risks are growing right alongside the industry itself.

and more lip service from these companies who claim "we tested our products" blah blah blah. no they didn't. they could not care less if they poison their people.

the top 2 worst were Naked Nutrition that had 1572% lead per serving and Huel black edition 1288% lead. absolutely bonkers. garden of life and Momentous were the next 2 around 500%. you might as well go eat paint chips if that is what you are looking for.

also protein bars were just as bad if not worse and contained heavy metals, pesticides, contaminants like BPA, and crazy amounts of arsenic. the 5 worst were:
  • Garden of Life Organic Shake & Meal Replacement Chocolate Cacao Raw Organic Meal
  • Nature's Best Isopure Creamy Vanilla Zero Carb
  • Quest Chocolate Milkshake Protein Powder
  • 360Cut Performance Supplements 360PRO Whey Chocolate Silk Premium Whey Protein
  • Vega Sport Plant-Based Vanilla Performance Protein
  • Cliff bars (which i used to eat a lot of back in the day) also contained high levels of arsenic, especially the ones that had brown rice syrup. even their Clif kid Zbars that i see parents giving to their kids SMH.
I've always been an advocate for knowing what goes into your body. so its important to avoid these powders and bars. stick to REAL FOOD and prep your own food so you know what is going in them. and yes QUALITY matters. the hypocrisy of people out there on nutrition boggles my mind. they won't take this medication or that food, but they have no issues loading their bodies full of these toxic chemicals from these fake foods. don't be one of those hypocrites and take control of your nutrition

a simple solution is this. MAKE YOUR OWN protein bars!!

its easy to do.
get a flat baking pan

add chopped raw nuts, dried fruit, raw almond butter, and raw honey. you can also add granola too if you are okay with digesting it or things like raw oats. and then mix them up a bit and press them into the pan. then put in the fridge for a few hours. then you can cut them up into squares and now you have good quality protein bars that you know are good to go
Great job Bru

Thanks bro that means a lot coming from you.

My barber said the same thing once, only he said I should do a book. I actually considered it for a while when I was on house arrest. I had a lot of time for reflection at that point and I remember thinking people might find it interesting. A middle class kid, athletic prospect, ends up going the total opposite direction and being pretty good at it haha. Figured parents might wanna buy it lol.

Even how I got caught really wasn't my fault, it was kinda dumb luck on the cops part and guilty by association lol. It's not like they figured me out and built a case on me. Just wrong place wrong time and the feds happened to have a hidden camera in my boys condo for a totally different investigation. Shitty luck.

here is a life lesson

i work in finance so i will use that as an example

today i got my ass handed to me. made a bad decision, then compounded it again. should have never even made that decision in the first place. i ended up being right in the end had i stuck by my decision . i had gotten away with doing a risky thing over and over and it worked, until it didn't work.

its like when you play poker and folded the winning hand on a huge pot and the opponent shows a bluff. you should have never been in the hand in the first place playing 7-8 suited and chasing a straight and flush, and instead of folding you kept calling each street and had you stuck with it you would have been right but you give up a huge pot and get smoked instead.

in situations like that or in your situation it was always a disaster waiting to happen. its just like shoplifting from target by accident when you didn't mean to, then you say 'hey it worked just fine" well it works fine until it doesn't. you get away with it once, then twice, and keep doing it over and over even though you should have never done it in the first place. they let you steal small amounts while tracking you. then once it gets to a certain amount then they get you and hit you with a big charge.

so basically the life lesson is if you make a bad choice, cut your losses and move on. dont' compound it. because eventually it will come back to bite you in the ass. eventually in your situation that is a very bad business to be in, very dirty business. you could have ended up getting killed, robbed or beaten seriously. it actually happened to a dude on the old EF forum. he was running a semi-legal pot business in N. Cali back when it was sort of legal. and some guys came to his farm and tied up his family and did horrible things to his wife robbing them. in my case i was playing with fire making risky ass decisions and it worked for a while, until it didn't work and i got my ass kicked hard. i look at it as it could have been way worse playing with fire and you can't go back and have regrets or think you just had bad luck. its like those people who stick coke up their ass or swallow condoms. you get away with it for a certain amount of time, easy 10-15K on each trip. but eventually either you have to stop voluntarily or you will pay for it. so no matter what it was a disaster waiting to happen. and probably a blessing for you that what happened ended up happening. atleast that is my naive way of looking at it lol

Wow bro all great points. Yea when I look back on things at this point in life I'm really happy things turned out the way they did. Getting caught led to so many great things in the long run for me. I would've never met my wife, I wouldn't have a great career, and like you said, who knows how much worse it really could have gotten. My wife's family actually had the same thing happen in their grow house where they got tied up beaten and robbed. I lost a lot of friends too the life also, and I'm blessed to still be here today. I got zero regrets, and wouldn't change a thing.

Hope you didn't get burned to bad financially today? You're a fisherman bro, you know the rule. Stick and stay and make it pay haha.

And what's so bad about 78s? Love that hand. The pot odds determine whether or not it was a good fold lol. Poker is the best to teach you not to worry about what ifs and just stick to the program. Mathematically and situationally you're making a right decision or a wrong the decision, outcome is meaningless. Until guys learn that they can't be good players.

yeah i used to play suited connectors all the time in cash games. its a great hand to burn big pockets lol
but one of my biggest losses in a poker game was that hand vs. Aces. the flop came A88 lol. the pot was huge. but i ended up getting away from it on the river cause K and Q came. so if figured the guy had a big pocket and had the full house.

another big hand i lost in was set over set. hard to get away from those.

biggest hand i ever won was flush over flush vs. nut flush draw. it was like 4am and i was up against 2 steaming players and all 3 of us got it in on the flop with all clubs. and my hand held.

Ya set over set flop is just a cooler. You just gotta stick it in and hope he's drawing. One of those mathematics situations.

Nothing better than those late night sessions playing against a bunch of guys who are stuck right lol. Man that dude with the draw must've been pretty sad when he was how slim he was drawing on the river with 2 made flushes opened up haha.

For an entire winter I never saw the sun once cuz I was going up to Niagara to play all week then come back to the city to "work" and party on the weekends. I would hit the tables around 8 or 9pm and play til 4 or 5am then head back to the hotel. I made a killing in the early hours of the morning. It was terrible for my health tho. People can play disciplined all night then when there's only a few guys left and the game can break those guys suddenly turn into fish lol

Yeah huge difference between playing 2pm vs 2am.
But poker rooms are such scams today. Every round 80$ is coming off the table with rakes, tips, and jackpot. In tournies it’s like 30% plus tip. So Even if you play great you still end up losing. 95% of players lose in that format. So I don’t play at rooms anymore. But if there is a home game that is well run I will play.

Yea rake is pretty tough to beat. I would only play at Casinos with session fees. You just pay up every 30 mins and it's wayyy better. All the underground rooms here rake pretty hard so it's not even worth going.

Watch out for home games if you don't know the people well. Home games are where all the cheating happens. Even those mechanical shufflers can be rigged to cheat.

Spitting straight facts..have been learning from your log which is a wealth of information and knowledge
It really is simplistic I see

the fishing season has been shit so far. but hopefully the cooler weather fires it up. the highlight of the day was this shark i caught. I caught 2 of these guys today. They are called Bonnethead sharks. you are allowed to keep 1 per person, per day but i threw him back. Sharks are extremely important for the oceans. they help keep the balance, they eat the injured fish and keep fish schools strong and healthy so only the strong survive in that school of fish. they should ALWAYS be released unharmed. people who think sharks are bad for the ocean are plain ignorant and should stop watching stupid movies on tv.

You know Steven Spielberg said that making Jaws was his biggest regret in life. Scared so many people and created this distrust of sharks in the general population. By now we should know better though.

Those little bonnethead sharks are awesome. They look like mini hammerheads. We have them in the the big Toronto aquarium and you can pet them along with different types of rays.

Sux that the season is off to a slow start. I'm sure all the hurricanes happening in the Carribean have mixed things up a bit.

But as the old saying goes a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work right

global warming is what has fucked it up. and its happening very fast. 11 years ago the fishing would fire up the last week of september and by Halloween the schools of fish would travel south. nowadays they still aren't here and we are well into November. I caught a bonefish as well, those are fish that NEVER are caught this time of year. they are only found in the Keys and Bahamas unless its the summer. yet i caught one in November, not good. plus the sargassum is horrible and still around, again something only supposed to happen in the summer. I tell the younger fisherman I run into once they get older there won't be any fishing at all and i'm dead serious

I didn't even know that the sargassum hit you guys too. Thought that was just the Mexico problem because of the changing currents.

Do you guys get the red tide where you're at? I know when Sarasota it was really bad my dad was telling me he was because some real estate developers blocked off some cove and it ended up changing the currents.

Red tide is on the Gulf of Mexico usually but we get water discharge from Lake Okeechobee which is the most polluted lake in North America

Because the Atlantic gets usually 4 tide changes a day it helps. Gulf only gets 2 usually per 24 hours in much of it. And places that get more then that it’s a very small change from low to high and vice versa how far the water goes

Nice @steveswe get those over here in aus too. They're big landbased game where im from. There is a stretch called 90 mile beach and yes it goes for 90 miles lol. We get them towards the 200kg mark from the sand paddling or droning baits out into the gutters 👌👌

nice man, one day if i hit the lotto i will fish in your neck of the woods. the videos look amazing. plus you guys actually take care of your oceans unlike us

Honestly the fishing over here is insane we just offer soo many styles of fishing from trout, to sports fish like kingfish, yellofin tuna then reef game like GTs and dogtooth tuna and full big game like bluefin tuna, black, blue and striped marlin and enormous swordfish, then everything in between haha. Fished my whole life here and was a shipwright for close to 10 years. So being on the water is like having air in my lungs

yeah man i have seen the videos. i love the ocean

You live in the "Sportfishing capital of the world" @stevesmi

Or is that just good marketing on Floridas part?

I've seen guys catching peacock bass in the storm water drains on the side of roads lol. I've also see guys catching aquarium species in culverts on tiny hooks.

Can you guys catch fish in your sewers @Allupfromhere lol

It was good 10 years ago. It’s getting worse and worse.

the fishing season has been shit so far. but hopefully the cooler weather fires it up. the highlight of the day was this shark i caught.
Sharks, I think you can eat those right? :D lol

This is how Stevesmi grounds himself - fishing.
It’s my addiction. But it’s a good addiction cause it isn’t expensive and it’s a nice way to get in steps and cardio as you say. Especially the fishing I do
Hauling a cart through sand. Fighting waves and recurrence to throw my rods neck deep and walk back. Running to grab the poles when they go off. Etc. tough workout

That's a good looking shark right there. I didn't know that about sharks. That's some good knowledge you're dropping.

I would be scared to go swimming in that beach. It's probably full of sharks.

those sharks are cool! i bet they fought like crazy

It smelled horrible. I wouldn’t eat it even if I was starving
I'm very against eating sharks in anyway, but most of all shark fin soup. I tasted it at a Chinese wedding once just so I'd know what I hate more than anything and it tastes like nothing. It's a basic flavourless broth with gelatinous stuff it in which I assume is the fine. Fukn dumbest tradition ever

It tastes like nothing I tried it, total trash but add some ketchup to it and you GTG LOL :P @BeMe
but serious its a total abomination to kill a shark for a fin that tastes like cardboard.

Ketchup makes everything good. I could eat cardboard with ketchup. There's only 1 thing it can't improve...STEAK! cuz it's already perfect

Would rather eat a person instead
I literally said the same thing to my wife last night when we were watching this new movie on Amazon called Eden. It people starving on an island and I said I'd eat a person I don't like before I'd go hunting lol. We're supposed to taste like pork haha

Was that the one that movie from when we were kids was based on. I think I remember the movie being called alive or something like that. I know there was another movie recently with a similar premise.

I'd be killing and eating my enemy fast. It's really a win win win. No more enemy, less resources to share, and food for your belly haha.

You would probably like Eden on Amazon then. Similar premise and true story.

What was that one you mentioned called. It was in Spanish right?

It was really good even the plane crash was super realistic

fishing is not easy. we've been trying to figure them out for thousands of years.

went yesterday morning and from 7:45-8:30 they were biting. I got 4 keepers which are my first keepers of the season! Each of these fish are $50-$75. these are the most expensive fish in north america called Pompano. They taste like the way chicken tastes in a 3rd world country where the chickens actually eat bugs and seeds, and not the way our corproate toxic American chicken tastes like chemicals. if you have ever travelled you would know exaclty what i mean.

The secret is these fish are SUPER picky eaters. on this particular day they were hitting naked rigs. once i figured that out i started using those type of rigs.

the people next to me got 2, next to them got 3, and next to them got 2 and so on. so everyone along the beach got some as a school came in. after 8:30 NOTHING hit. then i packed up and started leaving and then saw 2 more get caught so they started again. you gotta be in it to win it

Nice catch bro! Hopefully that means the season has begun and the bite is on now? Always nice when you get the ones you're targeting too.

Funny how this changes from countries. Pompano in aus only present in the warmer waters.

It has to be 65-75 degrees. So that is warm water but can’t be hot water. Or cold either. They go south during winter and north when it warms up too much.

Ahh got ya. Just had a look at the conversion to Celsius, be the same for our northern waters then.

I want some of that fish :D 75$ fish damn! @stevesmi

It's still 80 degrees in the Atlantic right now? That's great for hanging on the beach atleast.
the gulf stream keeps it warm on that side of north america. now on the pacific coast they have that alaskan current that comes in out of the north which keeps it cold year round. san diego barely gets to 70 degrees even during the summer

Hence the great White Sharks there lol

I remember I was in Florida when I was like 18 or 19. Went to Daytona Beach for New Years and the water was freezing. Couldn't swim at all.

Snow in Miami? I bet you Floridians wouldn't be able to get to work if there was a light dusting of snow. Remember a couple years back when there was a bit of snow in Texas and it broke their power grid and everyone crashed their cars lol

Fishing is definitely tough. I know that it's pretty brutal on your back and your neck.

its like when you play poker and folded the winning hand on a huge pot and the opponent shows a bluff. you should have never been in the hand in the first place playing 7-8 suited and chasing a straight and flush, and instead of folding you kept calling each street and had you stuck with it you would have been right but you give up a huge pot and get smoked instead.

Poker player, fisho and cook- the man of many talents.

You've inspiried me to whip out the yak, just got to wait for a day without all these storms and wind.

Also everything you have said about macros and processed food ! agree 100%
