I think this is actually a pretty good example of why it's important to lean into a lab's own track record rather than purely recommendations.
Recommendations generally come from a good place, and I'd like to think most people make them with the best intentions. But once that recommendation has been made, what happens moving forward is no longer in the hands of the person who gave it, regardless of the relationship that existed beforehand.
It's no different to recommending a mate for a job. You can vouch for their character based on your experiences, but you can't control the decisions they make once they're through the door.
With that in mind legends, it's a good reminder that new labs should earn the community's trust on their own merits and through their own actions, rather than trying to ride on the reputation and respect another lab has spent years building.
At the same time, I don't think this situation should cloud anyone's view of @Gold Standard Labs . The recommendation may have opened the door, but what happened after that point was outside of his control.
The respect he's earned within the community has been built through his own hard work and conduct over time, and that's what people should continue to judge him on.
