Any other big guys that have lifted for Many years get told you have diastolic heart failure due to a stiff heart?

So your left ventricle has thickened over the years?
Sorry to hear it's so bad!

I recently was told my left ventricle was SLIGHTLY thickened.... been using AAS for 10 yrs now ...but I'm not a big guy.
My buddy is a big Irish guy close to 300lbs...he never used AAS but he has an enlarged heart.

The LV is 'stiff' , less able to relax and fill.
Jeez...they have any way of helping that out?
Did gear use contribute to this or is it just cause your a big guy and you pushed your heart with exercise?

This is actually not steroid related. It comes from hard training. Especially training that gets your heart rate up. A lot of runners and sprinters have this same problem.

Your heart is a muscle just like your legs, biceps, chest etc. Hard cardiovascular training will make it grow and enlarge just like any other muscle in the body. If you look at biopsies done on professional NBA players, hockey players etc. they all have enlarged hearts.

Dr Gerry B comes on and talks about the best things you can do to keep your heart healthy and arteries elastic.

Thanks for the info. I'm aware of hypertropy as seen in a normal athletes heart. My issue is the LV is stiff and thickened making it hard to relax and fill in diastole. I'll find out the details today

Well like muskate said the heart is a muscle and if you use steroids they are not selective on the types of skelital muscle they affect. In a sense they are selective as they don't cause hypertrophy of smooth muscle which lines our veins/arteries and GI tract at least not to any degree that is pathological. So when taking anabolics and working out for many years the anabolic effect of the steroids can certainly cause the muscle tissue of the heart to thicken. Once the muscle has thickened, it pretty much is permanent and there is little modern medicine can do to reverse it. They will most likely prescribe beta blockers or antihypertensives in order to relax the muscle some and help it fill a bit more during diastole. Best of luck my friend.

Sorry to hear this.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy can also be Inherited, or due to High Blood Pressure/Aging/or Diseases such as Diabetes and Thyroid Disease.
Concentric Left Ventricle Hypertrophy can be due to Chronic HBP or Blood Flow Congestion.
And again, most cases seem to be Inherited, due to a Mutation in one of the Genes.

Treatment is as Fit-PharmD Outlined.
Best of Luck, and get all the Info you can from youir Doctor.

once you start getting into your 30's and especially 40's it is dependent on yourself to keep a close eye on your heart health assuming you don't want to croak early from a stroke/heart attack.

unfortunately will all the malnourished people i see with guts who don't exercise it is quite an epidemic in the USA.

steroids will strain the heart too even in healthy individuals, compounds like tren are absolute murder on your lipid health.
