How do the brothers on here deal with being EXTREMLY sore and training the next day? Should I take some ibuprofen or aspirin? I can barely move my damn arms haha (needless to say I wont be rubbing one out for a few days:rolleyes:) my other idea (and please don't laugh) was to take a Epson salt bath to ease the soreness.

There's a few things; try hitting the sauna for a good 30 minutes after training.

Epsom Salt is a good one, or a Sauna if you have Access to one.
I will on Occasion do some Anacin, if I really am that out of Whack................................... JP
P.S.
I have a Rub also that's very good, "Thera-Gesic".
Nice thing about it, after it Dry's, you can Wash the Area and get rid of that Menthol smell without Diminishing the Therapeutic Effects.

I find that when I train regularly I do not get sore.... I have also found that when I miss training for a period of time I am sore the first week back into it

This may sound really weird, but my father had terrible terrible arthritis before he passed away. He used to use a horse linament that came in a yellow spray bottle. It was a muscle spray for horses. He said that it helped his joints and soreness more than his prescription pain meds. Just a thought bro. now me personally, I supplement my everyday multi vitamin with a little extra glucosamine, seems to help.

Funny you say that I have been know to go to tractor supply and buy horse lineament

Epsom Salt or foam roller I actually enjoy being sore it makes me feel like I did something. Horse lineament guys - I know this stuff does work but it is such a long chain compound I really don't think it is very healthy for you.

Get a boxing liniment does wonders for sore muscle. Also some cardio always heats up the muscle , works for me

I tend to keep my schedule so the sore muscles don't really affect what i train the next day.

Monday-thighs and calves
Tuesday-Shoulders and triceps
Wednesday off
Thursday-back,traps and calves
Friday-off
Saturday-Chest and biceps
Sunday off

If I am really sore I will take ibuprofen but that doesn't happen to often.

That's Really Old School, when I used to live around an Amish Community in the 70's.
They would use the Horse Liniment for all kinds of things............................. JP

Actually I think this is the best way to go about it. Schedule your training so that your next workout isn't affected by what you trained the previous session. This is never an issue for me, because I weight train Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only alternating upper and lower body splits (DC training) so adequate rest and recovery is there. Once I do a workout it's 5 more days before those muscle groups are trained again.

I like to feel sore. Makes me feel like I was doing something right. I agree with rick rock. My training is laid out so that I it's a few days of recovery before I hit that body part again

Ibuprofen is a bad mix with lifting. Its an anti-inflammatory and the point of lifting is to inflame muscles. Previous post are correct, Split your Schedule accordingly.

this^ If your coming back after a long layoff you need to take it easy anyways maybe space your workouts out a little more or back off on intensity til you build back up to your previous level. I have accrued many nagging aches and pains in 25+ years of lifting and my warmups are pretty extensive that May be your other fix.

The soreness doesn't bother me. Its a bit of a hindrance putting on socks and having a shit but other than that I just get on with it.ore I think about the DOMS the worse it gets so I just keep busy

Why would we laugh? Epsom salt is a proven effective way to leach toxins from your body and sooth sore muscles. Why don't you add some bubbles too? ;) As for your question I still get sore but I haven't been so sore I couldn't move in a very long while. I think with time lifting combined with AAS it's pretty ease to work through for me unless I decided to throw in something I don't work often like hip adductors.

Tens machine and foam rolling...before lifting hot shower.

X2.^^^^^^^^ it's a love hate relationship with foam rolling. I complain like a 2 year old while doing it but keep coming back like a crack head for his next fix.

this.

guys joke around like they are proud to be PK junkies. if you can't take the pain involved then go do something else... inflammation is crucial to repair the body, shutting it off would be like no longer feeding your pet fish..

the only way to combat soreness is rest... I've tried every trick in the book and there is no magic way that's going to make a concrete difference, small difference maybe.. but nothing that is earth shattering

but once you condition your muscles adequately you shouldn't be getting sore so badly. a little soreness is normal but if you are getting crazy sore then obviously you haven't conditioned your muscles enough.

Making the time for an epsom salt bath is a rare luxury for me. I've recently been using Morton's epsom salt lotion- far more convenient and still effective.

Now that I read this again I wonder if you should just up your Protein shake (Fast digesting protein) after your workout or just consume more protein in general. also up your water intake to at least a gallon a day

Protien wont take away soreness family, plus your body will only absorb so much. The best bet is to let it rebuild, your sore cause you tore and worked those particular muscles and it will hurt them not help them if you work them to hard.

nah bro. I assure you unless you live in a 3rd world country food intake or water intake won't do much to make a difference when it comes to soreness

you gotta build up your muscle conditioning that's the #1 thing. if you take off lifting for a while its gonna take time for your body to come back

I drink juice and practically any kind will do. This helps to flush out the metabolites and other waste material out of your blood.

A lot of Water and a tablespoon of baking soda immediately post workout is best thing I've found stacked with a hot mustard bath

Water and rest, 10-30mins of cardio before and after legs to prevent DOMS. Also be aware of the difference between soreness and pain. Listen to the signs your body is giving you. A day off is worth much more than weeks/months being out of commission.

Amen to that. That's exactly why I tore my pectoral tendon. I didn't listen to my body and I overwork my muscle until it gave up. Now I am much wiser about that.

eh nice suggestion guys but really I have tried it all and there isn't a solution except rest.

we know muscle soreness isn't caused by lactic acid, that is an old wives tale or just old science. you probably heard some older dude tell you that at the gym and believed it. soreness is caused by your muscle fibers ripping, and the only way it can heal back up is rest ... using steroids will speed up repair obviously, but all these magic potions won't do a thing. stretching before a workout is not smart, I hope you guys aren't doing that! stretch AFTER, not before. that's a damn good way of pulling muscles

Echoing a lot of the things already said on here: Epsom salt baths are #1, absolutely, does the job. Followed by foam rolling and/or rolling on a small hard rubber ball for smaller muscles. TENS unit is also great and can be worn under clothes while you do other stuff like commuting or working at a desk. Real massages every once in a while. Liniments like Dit Da Jow or White Flower Oil. Light workouts and stretching in between your "real" workouts to get the blood flowing and flushing out the lactic acid in your muscles. Drink lots of water and green juice.

Yes I called you Budweiser lol no bro short for "buddy". Was just clarifying what clears lactic acid is all.

Ask me how hard my dick is on VENOM MASTERON!!!!

lactic acid does NOT cause muscle soreness. that myth was debunked years ago

lactic acid is responsible for that burning sensation you get during a set. but its flushed out after you are done working out. what causes muscle soreness is muscle fibers being ripped up. what causes DOMS is microscoptic muscle tears that don't get felt for a couple days

salt baths can speed up blood flow and speed up recovery, but its such a small fraction of a difference that it doesn't take precedence over getting rest, not even close.

I used to work with high school kids as a weightlifting coach and they would blame lactic acid for their soreness.. not sure why this myth is so popular these days with the younger crowd, probably just an excuse to not workout that day I dunno

to build up your conditioning yes you must workout while you are sore sometimes, that's why doing split workouts are great. while one group of muscle are sore you can hit the other muscles and so on

lol google it.

there is no way lactic acid stays in your muscles for more than an hour after your workout. its the pain you feel during a set, that burning sensation. I can't imagine having that for 2 or 3 days straight, just not plausible and anyone who thinks they are feeling that are mistaken. soreness and burning are NOT the same thing.

some of you on here are sick fucks and probably would enjoy feeling that burn for 2 days straight (i'm one of them) :)

X100 on foam rolling...hurts so good. Get the ribbed foam rollers they have them on amazon for super cheap great on leg day. Weirdly enough try a lacrosse ball on your upper torso areas of soreness. Did it when i had pt at velocity and it helped out a lot

Yeah you're right that doesn't make sense. it still helps to drink baking soda before a workout though. Quick removal during a workout or race seems the only necessary time then I guess. Thanks bud
