I wanted to know what you guys are aiming for when you sleep ? How many hours do you get and what amount makes you feel optimal ? If you wake up do you go back to bed or do you just wake when the body does even if its only 6 hours? I know sleep is important for gains and I want to gain as much as possible.

you always want 8 hours. If you love your country and you love God then you will want to get 8 hours of sleep.
This is the best option only because when the shit hits the fan you want to have your wits about you.

The actual number means nothing. For a start it varies as to what you need person to person and also according to your age. Teenagers, on the cusp of or just after puberty need more by way of example. Eight is the mean average

What you need is to feel rested. Switching off (or at least muting) the mobile, keeping the room dark, no late coffees etc all helps.

if i can get 9 hours of sleep a night that is my ultimate goal

realistically though I am getting 8 hours though.

i'm sorry but there is no way you can get under 7 hours of sleep and properly recover and repair the body. those of you who do that will never reach your peak fitness goals and will also wear down your bodies as you age.

tom brady is 41 years old and his secret is his lifestyle which includes a solid 9 hours of sleep a night.. he goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes up at 5:30..

I've never slept for more than five hours per day in my entire life (most often four hours per day), for my body simply doesn't require more than five hours of sleep per day in order to be fully rested. It is a gift - in that I able to accomplish much in life. And it is a curse - in that I believe it to be the primary reason why it has taken me nearly ten years to gain thirty-five pounds of muscle, even with the benefit of juice. Oh well.

It also has to be deep REM uninterrupted sleep.

I go to bed at around 9pm and get up with my daughter at 6:30am. Problem is she wakes up like 2 times a night so on the surface im in bed for almost 9 1/2 hours but realistically im getting 4 hours or so of uninterrupted sleep, which sucks.

this is 100% correct

this is why i encourage people to make your bedroom ultra special. invest in quality bed and pillows. put up black curtains to block sun. use a DC fan which is silent (cheap fans are very noisy).. heck even make sure your A/C isn't directly outside your window which is quite annoying to hear buzzing. if you live in a loud place with loud ass neighbors, move. most states actually have laws that allow renters to abandon their contracts due to noise. don't sleep with animals and if you sleep with a human have a spare bedroom in case the person snores either can go to. these are all important steps to making sure you have quality sleep

and also i shouldn't have to mention this but don't keep any lights or electronics in your bedroom. if you need an alarm clock it has to be faced away from you at night. the amount of people who can't even get this part right is a high %. lots of people have adopted having a tv in their room which is a huge mistake.

yup and many people who have things like bipolar or other psychological issues do not sleep much. we had a mod over on EF who slept 3 hours a night but you could tell had a screw loose. i felt bad for him because later on in life that lack of sleep would catch up to him. it is an awful domino effect. i feel horrible for anyone in that situation.

If you are a hard training athlete 8-9 hours is optimal.

A lot of guys get away with less, but it's not optimal. In a perfect world -> 8-9 hours every night

I always do my best for 8 hours sold sleep. Most of the time I end up with 7 hrs but ideal would be 8-1/2 to 9-hours.

I get anywhere from 5 to 9 during the week. I travel and cross time zones. Hard to maintain good sleep. Weekends I get 8 or 9 easy

Is this coming from the guy that says he is from AL but claims to live in Mexico? And what does sleep have to do with any of that? Lol

I am definitely pro sleep . My job makes it very difficult to get 8 hours of sleep ... sometimes I work a 22 hour day ... I travel a lot and just can’t seem to fall asleep on airplanes . So I sleep when I can and it’s sporadic at best . BUT on my time off I easily sleep 12 hours with a couple of pee breaks in the middle .
