Hey im relitivily new to bodybuilding and just recently started going to the gym every other day. Im about 5'11 200 pounds but im still not getting the muscle building results im going for. My question is i ussually take one whey protein shake with 24 g of protein before and one after workout and on my off days i take two shakes throughout the day. Is this what i should be doing in order to maximize my results with using whey protein any advice with how many shakes and when to take them thanks

Work harder on your diet more than how often to take a shake.

Maybe, maybe not.
The truth is you simply can't just solely rely on food source or supplement or whatever. It's all about the big picture, meaning your overall diet in general.
Once you have your diet in check then figure how many shakes you need to cover the rest of your protein needs.

You are acting like whey is how you build muscle. Whey protein is a supplement and that's it. It's there to help where your diet lacks in protein, but you need to concentrate on getting that protein in as much as possible from whole food sources. Dont rely on shakes so much. Also make sure the rest of your macros are correct with fats and carbs

Exactly. It's not like as long as you take protein shakes it doesn't matter how poor your diet is.
Never use them as a replacement for a proper meal plan. Period.

just because there is some juiced up meathead on the tub of whey protein doesn't mean you just take it and magically become the next ronnie coleman

it is a ruse, a trick to get you to BUY the product.

the truth is you would get much farther by tossing it in the trash, chilling out, and getting on a PROPER workout program and PROPER diet program to that fits your situation. now you can hire people for that, you can buy a $500 plan from some bald due on youtube who copy/pastes it, or you can do your own homework and do things trial and error to find out what works for you

what you should start with? the main 8-10 lifts. build muscle and body memory that way. then stick to muscle building foods. fruits, veggies, fatty meats, raw nuts.. shit humans have been eating for 100K years. stay away from processed and omega 6 oils which are in everything you eat at restaurants

I wrote only this week about how I did the 3 shakes a day thing. But I was also competing and coaching etc during that whole period. I'm currently (297lbs yesterday) 3lbs shy of my all time heaviest on food and ONE shake after lifting. And in today's workout I was a gnats ball away from a world class feat of strength (no gear since last May/June too).

Spend it on chicken breast lol, will take you further

To answer your question There is nothing wrong with a whey protein shake before and after your workout. One of the problems with a lot of protein powders is the total lack of carbs. Adding some good complex carbs to those shakes may help a little bit. At the end of the day the workout is what builds muscle not the shakes or supplements.
