After training for a year I still get sored muscles the day after, why? I have no freaking clue, I wonder if taking muscle relaxants would help or instead they affect my muscle developing, thanks.

No, no, no, no, no!!!! Having sore muscles is not a bad thing and using pain relievers and muscle relaxers is very counter productive. Just need to suck it up and know that it can be a part of weight training. Put you big boy pants on man!!! Stretching and using a foam roller post training can help.

A Muscle Relaxer is the Absolute Last Thing that you want to take for Muscle Soreness.
Muscle Relaxers affect Skeletal Muscle Function and Decreases the Muscle Tone.

Like Stimy mentioned, Stretching and Foam Rolling are both good.

You can also take some Beta-Alanine, it's great for DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).
Take around 2,000 Mg prior to your Workout.......................... JP

Cold showers or ice baths also work. Sucks but they work. It pushes out, breaks down, and numbs the Lactic acids from the muscles that cause soreness.

The cryotherapy is supposed to be the same thing but idk if it works or not but definitely faster and easier to do. $$$$$

But maybe diet too? Water? Not getting enough of it or protein? But if your not showing gains might be a bigger problem. Age could be a factor. I'm 38 and did 3x10 squats with the bar for the first time in years and couldn't walk for two weeks normally. Getting older sucks.

It's perfectly normal to get some delayed on set muscle soreness after your workout. It's a sign you had a productive workout! Extreme muscle soreness isn't good but a little bit is perfectly normal.

Taking anti-inflammatory drugs like tylenol/aspirin will actually be counterproductive for your muscle building goals. Inflammation (the pump) is needed to signal the hypertrophy (muscle building) process. By taking tylenol/aspirin, you will blunt that response and not get as much of a hypertrophy response from the workout that you would of otherwise.

Don't take anti-inflammatory drugs unless absolutely necessary.

Try using fish/krill oil instead of anti-inflmattory drugs. Fish/krill oil is the best natural anti-inflammatory supplement you can take. It won't hinder gains in any way and will actually help the muscle building process.

One of the board sponsors makes an awesome krill oil. I would head on over to n2bm.com and pick up a bottle of that. Fish oil you can get for cheap at Costco

let's understand what muscle soreness is. no it isn't lactic acid, that is bro science that was debunked 25 years ago. soreness is caused by micro tears in the muscles and YOUR OWN BODY sending in inflammation to fix it. taking an ANTI-inflammation is the dumbest thing you could do, defeats the purpose of working out in the first place no?

now if you keep getting tenderness after a workout that is completely normal.. full fledged soreness and i would tell you to give your body a break and do some deloading.

a proper diet and proper sleep will sleep up recovery from soreness.

There is nothing wrong with having sore muscles from training.

What you can do to help is:
-get more sleep
-take extra time off the gym when needed
-take fish oil
-increase protein intake

I couldn't agree more. ...^^^^

The other day I did a new leg workout. ..that night I was so sore. I thought I was going to be screwed the next day....but I woke up and felt like I could do it again. Recovery is on point...I was impressed. Diet and supplements must be on. ..
