does listening to you favorite jams while lifting or running really improves your exercising? how many of you here think it helps and who thinks it can ruin your concentration?

of course. good music helps pump me up, also it offsets the shitty ass music we are forced to listen to at the gym. i do not want to hear that garbage and i hate that my gym blares music so loud. the original golds gym had no music, that is how it should be.

I've always enjoyed music while lifting.
My 1st Gym had no music, Guys would bring in their Boom Boxes (original ones), and we'd listen to Rock.

Then as things progressed, I bought an Original Sony Walkman that I would wear.

These days I still have a Sony Walkman, but it's an MP-3 player Headset.
So no Wires to get in the way....................................... JP
P.S.
I can't stand the Bullshit that all the Gyms play in the way of Music these days.

Music blocks out all the Nonsense that's going on around me in the Gym.
I can concentrate on the Lifting.

A lot of scientific studies have shown that those who listen to music while training lift more weight and perform more repetitions then their counterparts who do not listen to music.

I personally like to listen to trance while lifting. It's not distracting but I like the beat and vocals.

Music causes a release in endorphins which will make you feel good and lift more weight.

Music is definitely a great thing - it gets you in the mood, and it motivates you. Also, it saves you from the distraction of other's conversations and discussions - it is just you and the iron. So yeah, listening to your own music during workouts is a great thing to do.

Music is awesome.. I used to do playlists specifically for what I was working out.. that was when I was much more committed!

I love listening to music while training. It especially helps me keep my mind off cardio too.

During training and cardio it is a great time to catch up on the Evolutionary Radio Podcast too! The link to subscribe is in my signature.

I usually have music playing, but sometimes I feel like I can focus better on certain movements if I just use my ear buds as plugs to make the gym noise a quiet hum. They are far more comfortable than itchy earplugs and you don't get weird looks.

I've always found that, when I'm REALLY lifting the BIG weights I don't hear sh*t.
