For many years I have been a smoker, but I do realize how bad it is for my health. I want to quit smoking, but have already failed several times. Did any of you manage to quit smoking? What did you do to achieve that? Really hoping to get some useful advice here, as you always do guys!

First off, it's AWESOME that you are trying to quit smoking. It won't be easy and you have all of our support 100%.

Nicotine adversely affects EVERY major system in the human body. As it builds up from regular use, it can lead to weakened immune function, fatigue, decreased healing time, and long-term diseases including cancer. In fact, nicotine prevents the body from properly disposing of damaged cells, thereby allowing cancer cells to develop.

Nicotine is also extremely addictive so trying to quit cold turkey might not be the best idea. You could try nicotine gums, patches etc to try and help you get past the withdrawal symptoms.

Book an appointment with your doctor. He will help put together a treatment plan with you to get off the cigarettes for good!

There are lots of techniques to quit smoking. In any case - your desire by itself is already half the job done, so now you just need to establish a gameplan, and follow it. The thing is that nicotine can cause the abstinence synrdome, so removing it all of a sudden is very hard. Nicotine patches are a good start. In no case should you just smoke little or very little - no smoking at all. Use nicotine patches, and go reducing the dosages little by little.

i tried smoking and thought it was nasty.. never understood why anybody would start smoking, i guess people just want to fit in or whatever.

the best way to stop smoking is to STOP SMOKING. these other products that people use are not the solution.. you simply have to stop and deal with the withdrawal for a while and eventually you will be so over it

it is no different than someone who wants to quit sugar. you can't quit sugar by drinking diet soda which has artificial sugar, your brain is still being fed what it thinks is sugar. you have to stop sweeteners altogether

my recommendation is lose your friends who are smokers, stop hanging out with smokers, and stop going places where people smoke.

I quit smoking around 11 years ago.
Smoked off and on.

Wanting to Quit is the 1st Hurdle.
Now it's a question of Will Power.

So I 1st cut down from over a Pack a Day, to just smoking after meals.
As that's when my Cravings were the highest.
After a couple weeks of this, I just said, "This is my Last Cigarette"............................. JP
P.S.
It's Not this Simple, but it can be done.

Also, every time you Inhale, think to yourself that you are Literally Killing Yourself.
One Puff at a time, this is what finally did it for me.

i quit cold turkey just because my girlfriends parents smoke and have major health problems and still refuse to smoke, after seeing how upset it got her i decided to just quit. So when trying to quit, keep your loved ones in mind.

You just have to have will power. It isn't much different than when you are dieting and fighting off a craving. You just have to tell yourself what is more important.

The key to remember is that every time you try to quit and fail it will be even harder the next time. You have to just stop now because this is the easiest it will be to quit.

Good luck dude, good for you for quitting!

I hear Wellbutrin can help? It does suppress your appetite and you lose weight though.

As the others have said it's good you're thinking is going in the right direction.

Like so much of what we do via our gym training pretty much everything is WILL POWER, WILL POWER, WILL POWER. I'm probably one of the chattiest non-stop talkers my local gym has (heck I'll mutter to myself when I train in my home gym ha ha). But I can switch that off and get in the zone real quick. There's no supplement or pill that does this. Just my desire to push myself and heave some damn weight.

The same is true of wanting to stop smoking. We hold the power to either success or failure in our selves.

I use to be a heavy smoke for several years and yes it's extremely difficult to give it up. For me the only way was to get off slowly, I started reducing the amount of cigarettes I smoked daily until I reached a point where I was having 2 cigarettes a day and eventually I decided to cut them out aswel, now it's been 2 years and I honestly have nomore cravings and can't see myself taking it up again. Nicotine patches and other sources to help you stop can only do so much however some of us need them. Just remember if you put your mind to something and stay dedicated you can achieve anything
