Rest days?

Just curious how many of you take rest days. I can't help but feel like I'm wasting a day sometimes if I don't do some resistance training even though I know there are many benefits. So, do you guys take them? If so, how often?

I have to Agree 100% with Stevesmi on this point.
I'm at the point in my Training that I know when I Really Need to Rest.

But even on a Non-Weight day, I still do Body Weight exercises.
It's a leftover from my Powerlifting days.
My Coach was Very Big on Kettle-Bells and Body Weight Training..................................... JP

People underestimate how hard you can push your body before you truly reach a state of over-training. A conditioned male can train every day, sleep and diet are a huge factor. I used to compete in IPL and we trained daily as a team. I'm the same as JP, I come from a powerlifting background and we train a shit ton. The more time I spend under the bar, the stronger I get.

Obviously programming becomes very important if you're looking to train that often.

I will do 1-2 rest days a week. As others have stated you need some rest to recover but also know your body. On my rest days I will still get a light cardio in just to get the sweat going. More mental for me I guess so I don't feel like I am wasting a day.

if my body needs a rest i give it a rest. there is no black and white answer.

i stay active daily, it doesn't have to be weights.
I'm with Steve. I listen to my body. That usually results in one off day per week. On cycle I may do no off days some weeks. Like someone else said, over training isn't a concern as long as you target different muscle groups in consecutive days and eat to fuel recovery. I think taking a week off once in a while is really beneficial. One day here and there isn't really much rest, especially if you're doing cardio on "off" days. Rest really needs to be rest IMO.

I find that most people benefit from taking a day off after 3 consecutive days of training in a row.

On my rest days I still do cardio and abs.

Rest days are important. Both physically and mentally.

yes considering i have a very phyically active job.. i take 3 days rest a week .I throw cardio in on those days, if i can

In the listen to your body camp. It's hard to imagine that's a wrong approach.

Although if you're a young dude, maybe your body doesn't speak so loudly. So I could see structuring rest too.

Rest days allow you to perform better on the days when you workout, so they are extremely important. Usually, I rest EOD, and on these days I just do jogging and bow shooting. That is more than enough.

My question is, on AAS, you have a faster recovery time right? Thus allowing you to work the same body part sooner and grow faster? So how necessary is a rest day on gear? Is this not why Arnold and the builders in the 70s favored a 6 day split where they could hit every body part twice a week and even did two a days?

I'm a pretty active person, so listen to by body pretty well and know when i'm overstepping the mark.

I hit weights 3xpw doing a full body split with 1hr cardio thrown in, my other two weekdays i can do whatever i want be it a rest day or more cardio.
Weekends are my time off, well i say time off more time being kept busy working for her indoors.

Yes. Yes. Only as necessary. Yes. :p

Your body will tell you when you need a rest day. I usually take 1 a week. Recovery is vital (rest, sleep, water, macro nutrients and micro nutrients)

Everybody's body is different. What may take me 2-3 days to recover. May take you one day. Listen to your body and go with h it. If it's hard to push yourself out of bed in the morning. Your probably over training. Good luck bro.

On cycle: 4 days on, 1 day off. Repeat. (On days: back/legs/chest-tri/shoulders-bi)
Off cycle: 4 days on, 2 days off. Repeat.
