I went to a drug store expo and charity run and they were giving out free samples after the race and it included these packs of chewies that had sugar and vitamins that they said was good after a run. I am a runner and am looking for any advantage I can get. would taking these post run benefit me?

I wouldnt take any "sugar" but rather dextrose and whey protein. I dont like sugar.

Believe it or not pixie stix are mostly dextrose and many old school lifters mixed them in their post workout drink with creatine. If I remember correctly this is the same ingredients in the original muscle tech years ago.

Sugar is just empty calories. Of course, sometimes fast carbs are needed, but this is rather the exception. Yes, and from fast carbohydrates there are healthier ones than just sugar.

Aren’t fruits watery by nature? Except maybe bananas. You mean like watermelon, and other melons? Or oranges, pineapple?

you can pull up the list of watery fruits online. bananas are roughly only 75% water which is low. but melons are in the 90's. they are great after a long run like that to replenish electrolytes and water. and more importantly they are minimally processed by the body because they are all water and fiber. so the body has zero issues digesting or processing it. you will always find fruit available after a road race for that reason. i actually used to not eat it though cause my body was too hyped up from the race so i didn't even want it.

they still do this today BUT those are the high level guys pounding lots of hgh and insulin. the average joe and even high level gym rats do not need to ever do this who are on steroid cycles, its just a scam by the protein powder industry and sports drink companies to sell more of those products.

the fact that people actually think we need dextrose after a weight training session is laughable especially to guys like me and Dylan who have experience running marathons and triathlons. I never used sugar in my life for that shit, we carb up like the day before with some sweet potatoes and rice and we are g2g, so why does a gym rat think they need it from something like an hour of weight training? makes no sense to me. i will drink water with a lot of electrolytes added after bikram yoga cause i sweat out like 3 pounds and i will also use some of a product called ultima cause i live in a hot ass climate. but those of you in colder climates just need water

Yea it was big back in the 90’s I don’t believe in sugar I soul in spikes either. I feel best with moderate carbs after a workout in that 2 hour window.

It can be good to replenish your glycogen via carbohydrates post workout or exercise. How you go about that is up to you.
