Do CPAP machines work?

I have breathing problems at night, what they call obstructive apnea. All these years I was wondering why do I feel sleepy all day, had headaches when slept a lot...so one of the things I am considering to do, is get an CPAP machine to improve lung ventilation when I sleep. Does any of you have experiences with them?

Personally, I do not, but from what I read and heard about them, these machines are a very effective means of dealing with this problem. In fact, people say they feel a huge difference right from the first night of using it. It is crucial to choose the right mask. It must fit you well, so there are no air leaks.

I tried one once, cause I had a Sinus Blockage, and my Oxygen Saturation was going down while I slept.

The Goddamn Thing almost Killed me (or so I thought).
Because you have a Mask on, if one of your Sinuses Closes Off, it'll push the air straight down your Throat.
I woke up, thought I was Drowning on something, never wore it again.

Went to the ENT, and had the Blockage Removed................................ JP
P.S.
Some People Swear by them ~ I didn't have a Good Experience.

My brother in law uses one and it changed his life. On a fishing trip with him I witnessed the apnea first hand I couldn't believe how long he stopped breathing for. I guess you need to get the right bit of kit and have the necessary checks. One word of warning though. The mask must be a real passion killer unless your missus is a darth vader fan. I guess it's that or the nasty consequences

Well, I believe the the miss will rather accept you sleeping with a mask, rather than feed you later with a spoon after you get a stroke. If the relations are fine, that should not be a problem. But yeah - this thing changes the lives of people. As a matter of fact, I have just ordered mine, waiting for it to arrive!

Me personally I have no experience. But I've mates in strongman (and a buddy with a chest condition) who use them and they all say they are very useful.

You don't say WHY you have an issue. IF it's being obese (my buddies are 300-330lbs with a few bigger) then lose some weight.

I have never used one personally as I do not have any sleeping problems but I have a couple big bodybuilding clients who were suffering from severe sleep apnea. They said the CPAP machine literally changed their life.

I have heard nothing but positive reviews on CPAP machines. I would certainly give it a try. Worst case it's can't hurt.

Interestingly, I am not obese - maybe I have 5 extra kilos, but out of 100 kilos in total I don't think this would be the ultimate reason. Besides, I always snorred, even when I was leaner....will give this machine a try - hope it will change things for the best!

Whether you're obese (as in fat) or short but weigh 100-kilos the sheer size is, as per my bigger buddies, what causes problems. As you say lets see what happens

there are plenty of people that aren't overweight who have sleep apnea. larger neck, tonsils, deviated septum, and large tongue can play a big factor. some guys that just go on trt and gain a bit of size without working out develop it. go to your regular doctor and get a referral to a sleep doctor. they will hook you up and take data overnight. if you stop breathing 30 times in a hour, that's considered severe sleep apnea, mine was 120 haha, so you can imagine. once you get a machine and a mask, you'll use it for awhile and then go back to the sleep doc with your data, and they'll adjust settings on your machine and dial in the correct pressure. finding the right mask is crucial, i really recommend the philips dreamwear, it just goes under your nose (NOT in), and the tube is on top of your head, so there is no fighting with it if you like to roll around. cpap is very effective at solving the issue, after that the options are mostly surgical. it might take awhile to get used to the mask, which is difficult for a lot of people, you have to stay consistent, i had to use ambien just to be able to tolerate it while i slept. it took me probably 6+ months of trial and error before i could sleep with it more than a few hours, but once i got a single night using it, i literally got up the next morning and said man i feel like going for a walk and just went outside (prior to that i was in bed prob 75% of the day)
