Do you really need supplements?

do you really need to take supplements if you weight train or can you just work really hard and train your balls off in the gym and eat the perfect guy and get great results. I had this discussion the other day with a group of guys at the gym and one guy said that he never takes any supplements and he looks amazing
 
They're insurance so you can be the most healthy you can be. If that isn't worth spending a minute to take them and the few cents a day it cost, then don't use them.

I think all of us need supplements, I take supplements daily and I make sure to have my clients do the same.
 
The answer is no you dont need supplements. You can achieve your goals without them. Some may help you "supplememt" something you need more of which may get you another 2% benefit but the training and the diet is going to be 98% of what your results are

You're far better off having a perfect diet.

But how many of you do?
 
Your friend looks good externally, he is probably young, how about internally? Does he get necessary amount of vitamins and minerals from food? Unlikely. Body starts falling apart after 30 and it is a gradual process. when you realize you need supplements, it will be too late and by then you will need medications. I started taking supplements from 22 years old and I recommend, especially because of food quality we get these days

Proven by a very big official US Gov organisation to have less nutritional value than it did in the 50's.

Every and I mean EVERY nutritionist worthy of the title (and it's cos that's what they've been taught and MUST say) will say 'eat optimally, healthily and get the majority of your nutrition from a healthy diet'. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Now go find a perfect diet. Grass fed, organic, fresh etc etc. Can you do it, afford it, find it? Or are you an average Joe? Buying your food from a supermarket with all the other bills, family, work and time to deal with?
 
problem is the quality of the soil. when you farm land, the nutrients get used up so the next season there are less in the soil and so on. my garden at home i bury bones, old food, rotten food, etc. it allows the soil to have the minerals and vitamins again to produce a good crop. farmers though obviously don't do that, they fertilize with chemicals which drops the food quality even more but produces a good harvest. the USA had dust bowl in the 20's from over use of lands, only thing that fixed it was a economic depression combined with the discover of underground aquifers. however that still does not fix the poor food quality and once that aquifer goes dry look out

now the next problem becomes supplementing to make up for these deficiencies. unfortunately your body does not have the means to magically absorb what is deficient in a lot of cases. you can sit in the sun and get vitamin D from the sun, but if you take vitamin D supplements they will almost always just go through our bodies and get pissed out. and once that domino effect happens

Health = #1

Genetics + Diet = #2

Work ethic in training = #3

Rest and lifestyle = #4

Drugs = #5

This is my scale of importance until today.

Keep it in mind and you will always make the right decisions.
