Hello Evo bros,
I know I’ve been quiet and bailed on my log but I’ve been following along quietly and learning a lot along the way. I just recently found out that I need hernia surgery which will have me on the shelf for 6+ weeks. My surgery is currently scheduled for December. Any advice on what I can do before the surgery and during and after recovery to speed things along and not lose too much during the process? Thank you in advance!

welcome back to the EVO family @Billy_Mak we missed you! can you tell us why you bailed on your log? what happened to that cycle and log?

and since its hernia, did that happen during that cycle or post with improper training?

And what do you mean not loose too much time? we aren't clear with your situation since you didn't log and went MIA.

hernias are part of the game man. i have 2 hernias that if they grow will have to get done as well. i would do some tb500

Ugh.. Advice not advise .. I know nobody cares but my OCD makes me have to correct it
Dude... I'd spend half my day doing that if I wanted to

Hernia surgery is no big deal anymore. The teflon mesh they insert now is better than what was there before

best thing you can do is drop as much dead weight as possible. the leaner and healthier you are the faster you will recover!

hernia surgery can be a bitch. hopefully you are back soon keep us informed how it goes

Thank you very much for the feedback everyone. I can’t point to any one incident that caused the hernia, it seems to have developed over time which according to my doctors is the most common way it happens. I’m currently on just a trt dose going on about 1 month now. That’s great advice on the omega 3, I take it daily and had no idea it could affect clotting! I’ll definitely stock up on the peptides for recovery. When should I start? After the surgery or is there a benefit to having them in my system before the surgery? I’ve gotten a couple of opinions and the doctor I’m going with does minimally imaging laparoscopic surgery using a composite mesh which I’m on the fence about. He recommends the mesh but is leaving it up to me if I want it or not. There is a higher recurrence rate without the mesh but you don’t have a foreign body inside of you which can cause it’s own issues so I’m not sure.

If you want help on adding peptides, you need to restart a new log with a post-surgery recovery log so we can actually help you not guess.

Honestly I don’t see myself restarting my log any time soon, I just don’t have the time for it. Most days I’m choosing between getting in enough sleep or hitting the gym. With work and little kids at home I have to pick and choose what I spend my time on. I get that you can’t provide a complete response without it so I’m thankful for any general advice you can give.

-Get off all gear except whatever TRT keeps you in mid/high range
-Get the mesh
-Ask them about an IV of antibiotics before surgery to avoid any mesh complications
-After surgery you can add in a peptide I use called GLOW which is just TB500, BPC-157 and GHK-cu and some GH and anavar will help with healing.
-Shoot @Fusion Canada a message and get yourself set up with those three peptides and go mid/high dose on them for 2 months at least. The GH will help with healing too. Anavar is up to you for me it's an all in one oral. My girlfriend burnt the shit out of her foot with the steam cleaner and I ran her on 2mg Var for 4 weeks and she healed up like a champ.
-Stay on your TRT until you're ready to start lifting again and I wouldn't start a cycle for a while, that's a time when you don't want to be strong when you're just coming back.
-Get bloods a couple weeks before surgery and then a few weeks after. They will pull bloods the day of so make sure and ask for creatinine, Cystatin-C, ALT/AST, lipids/cholesterol and see if they'll do Test/free test, E2, prolactin, progesterone, etc

@Billy_Mak

I had the same surgery just take it easy you won’t lose as much as you think that you’re going to. I actually had to have it twice.

Sorry to hear this but you know you can easily take 5min/week to update your log 1x/week. It would be a huge change for your lifestyle and something you can be proud of.
I get it’s hard with kids and work pulling you in every direction, but the log doesn’t have to be some huge project. Even just a couple quick updates a week makes a difference and keeps you accountable. You’ll look back in a few months and actually see progress instead of just feeling like you’re spinning your wheels. Think of it like another tool in your training, same as tracking lifts or meals. A few minutes here and there is worth it for the bigger picture. @Billy_Mak EVO family supports you :D!

One thing Ill say is controversial with bloods is creatinine. High protein diets can increase these levels above normal. So make sure the doctor knows this. Ive had a few debates about these levels with my doc as 300g of protein raised my levels to a point where he was concerned about my kidneys. Doesnt apply to everyone but something to keep in mind

Agreed @Fusion Canada creatinine is one of those things that gets tricky with lifters eating a ton of protein. Labs don’t always separate kidney issues from just high intake.

This "protein king" agrees. As long as your doc's eyes aren't popping out of his head at the results and he just says he's 'concerned the creatinine is high' you're fine bro.

If you're truly ever concerned just start with a BUN bloodwork (blood urea nitrogen). Never go only by creatinine unless it's so high it can't possibly be from diet.
