Mucuna pruriens - levodopa
Introduction
Mucuna pruriens, also called velvet bean, is a plant that has tremendous health benefits from Parkinson's, to libido, to the nervous system. It has been used for many years in traditional medicine, and is today used in many health and bodybuilding supplements. Read on to find out why you should be using it daily to help you better reach your goals in and out of the gym.
The Mucuna Pruriens (common name: velvet bean) plant and its extracts have been used in tribal history to treat snakebites from cobra, viper and krait. For many years, the dried leaves were smoked in traditional Ayurvedic Indian medicine for such conditions as Parkinson's disease. As a matter of fact, according to medical research done on L-DOPA, Mucuna does have the potential to treat Parkinson's disease. Read More..
What is it?
If you have ever visited tropical parts of Africa, Asia, or the warm Caribbean you will be able to see a vine that has seedpods with 'velvet' hair coated on it. When you touch the plant you might regret it because it has such a strong antioxidant power that it will cause your skin to become itchy and rashed. In the USA, it can be found in Florida called Florida velvet bean, having been imported and grown as something unique looking.

Mucuna pruriens Seeds - L-Dopa
Inside the pods that grow from the vine are bean-like seeds which contain L-dopa at super high concentrations. L-dopa, or levodopa, is used to positively affect dopamine levels in the body, which is an inverse of prolactin. Because of this, it can be used for many things including sexual benefits and Parkinson's disease.
Mucuna pruriens has essential fatty acids, amino acids, and protein. It also contains tannins and phenols which give it additional health benefits we will discuss below.
The studies continue revealing... birth control pills are damaging whole generations of women.
Fertility is not sickness. Why are we obeying the drug companies and the political agenda that wants to control our bodies by consuming these poison pills? https://t.co/QZtATYRKbR

Sex and fertility
One of the most pressing complaints I get from my clients is that their sex drive is down. Although it is absolutely true that as we age we can expect a steady drop in our sex life, however we have seen a massive plunge in people having sex over the past 1-2 decades. One study showed that 20-somethings are having way less sex than previous generations and the blame is environmental factors, lack of nutrition, and electronics in my opinion. The same problems exist with fertility, where sperm banks across the nation are reporting major shortages. Bottom line is our reproductive health is cratering at a massive rate.

Sex and fertility
One study from India took a look at 2 groups of men that had fertility and libido problems vs. men who were healthy and fertile. The group that had problems took Mucuna pruriens for 3 months and they had an increase in pituitary gland function. Our pituitary glands produce hormones which stimulate the testes into producing testosterone and sperm. Overall those men had a rise in dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, testosterone, and Luteinizing hormone.
Sex and libido
The next study I wanted to share took a look at long term sexual behavior of rodents. Taken daily, the subjects displayed a rise in libido, potency, hormonal levels, and overall sexual behavior.
Mucuna Pruriens Extract is a tropical legume, also called velvet bean. Although it is native to areas of Africa and Asia, it is also grown in other tropical parts of the world. The plant grows as a vine producing seed pods and growing up to 15 meters. It has amazing natural health benefits, which can benefit anyone, from someone struggling with libido issues, to athletes, to those who suffer from Parkinson's disease. Read More..
Many people who have taken Mucuna pruriens report an improvement in their sex drive and this is likely not just due to the positive effects on reproductive health, but also due to the increase in dopamine. The reason increasing dopamine works so well for libido is because it is inverse to prolactin. Prolactin rises after men ejaculate, causing us to lose interest in sex. The period in between sex is called a refractory period because your dopamine must go up and your prolactin must come down before you will want sex again. Since Mucuna pruriens causes a rise in dopamine and a drop in prolactin, you will reduce this refractory period significantly making you want more sex, more often, making your wife or husband much happier.
Depression and mood
Many of you might know someone who is always in a crummy mood and moping around. Depression is something that has been rising for years and many people are hiding it because they are too ashamed to talk about it. Researchers have studied it for many years and they can agree that a big part of it has to do with low dopamine levels.

Mucuna pruriens seeds helped reverse depression
An AYU study was done 5 years ago that the hydroalcoholic extract of the Mucuna pruriens seeds helped reverse depression in subjects thanks to the rise in dopamine. That feeling you get when you win a big pot in poker? Or that girl or guy you are hot for texts you back? Those are neurotransmitters shooting in your brain that make you feel good. The good news is there have been additional studies showing Mucuna Pruriens not only boosts dopamine, but also serotonin and norepinephrine, which are also very important feel-good neurotransmitters.

Parkinson's disease
Many people seem to refuse to accept that nature has ways to counter diseases, and want to attack and disparage those who would rather you take something natural vs. a drug for an ailment. Parkinson's disease is where nerve cells in the brain die off causing a person to have a steep reduction in dopamine. It is a horrible illness that affects the way a person moves and affects a quarter million people in the USA alone, and it cannot be cured only treated.

Mucuna pruriens - boosting L-dopa
L-dopa is a precursor to dopamine. This dopamine is a neurotransmitter in our brain that helps us move and coordinate, learn, regulate mood, and boost motivation. Mucuna pruriens does such a great job at boosting L-dopa that it is used in traditional medicine to treat Parkinson's disease. Not only that but even western doctors use L-dopa in synthetic form to treat this disease.
One particular study I wanted to share with you had patients take 45g per day of Mucuna seed powder extract which contains over 1000mgs of L-dopa. Their results showed that they had a significant improvement in their Parkinson's symptoms after 3-4 months. Another study showed that patients were better able to tolerate taking Mucuna pruriens vs. synthetic L-dopa.
Dosage
When used alone we recommend a dosage of up to 1500mgs per day. When used in a stack you can run 200mgs a day for great results.

Stacking ideas
We recommend you stack Mucuna pruriens with other supplements like Fenugreek, other testosterone boosters, vitamins, minerals, and health compounds for best results. Rather than buying all of them separately and spending hundreds of dollars, it makes the most sense to purchase an all in 1 product. Our favorite of the bunch of a product called M1-MK, which contains 200mgs of Mucuna pruriens [Seed] (Standardized to 20% L-Dopa) per serving, along with two dozen additional ingredients.
