Veteran Log TRT and Recovery Log - with PuritySourceLabs

This is the start of my transition off of cycle and starting TRT cruise and preparation for hernia repair surgery in December. I will log the details of the TRT transition, surgery, and recovery plans.
@BigD9795 It was great to have you on the podcast. Those of you out there should definitely check out the episode when it comes out. Great information.

Bros. The hernia surgery sound kind of scary to me. I got a hernia as well from doing plumbing job. I a bit worried that I might have need surgery. Maybe next year. @BigD9795

Hernia surgery is no joke. I had 1 about 12 years ago.

I’ll keep you well informed of my experience with the upcoming surgery. I’m a bit nervous as well but more nervous about the down time. I’m not very good at not being active.

Well, don’t mean for my first real post for this log to sound so doom and gloom but there has been a lot going on for me in the last several months leading up to today.

Coming off cycle has been interesting while the body is trying to settle into TRT doses. Also, many of you who have read my log are aware of the severe sleep apnea and insomnia I’ve been suffering from for about three months. Well, it’s been getting progressively worse. The docs are doing what they can to try to figure this out. I’m pretty depleted physically and some cognitively due to a couple of nights with either zero sleep or only a few hours. This is causing me some real concern. Now they’re telling me I can’t get a sleep study done anytime soon. Probably mid January. Meanwhile I’m left to try to get through this until then.

Just this week on Monday I started developing symptoms of an old diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation. I was diagnosed in 2012 but since
My weight loss and fitness got on point had zero symptoms of it. Been noticing my heart rate trending up without additional effort at the gym. This morning, during weight training, my heart rate was around 130. Where I like to be when doing cardio. When I got on the elliptical for
My post workout cardio, heart rate jumped to 172 bpm. Had to reduce the intensity and was able to bring it down to 152.

So
My top priority is working with the doctors to get these issues fixed.

More later,

D

sorry to hear about these medical issues. You seem to be very knowledgeable though about it and you seem to be tackling the issue, which I have a lot of respect for. @BigD9795

100%. I’m going this challenge and how I overcome it will help others in some meaningful way. I’ve faced a lot of adversity on this journey. This is just another one I will conquer and come out stronger for it.

bros i was in bed for 2years striaght. it sucked.

@Ulter, you’ll have to give me some of your insight and experiences with your recovery. I’d love to hear about it.

D
sure. well the doctor i went to was pretty bad first of all. took about 6 appt's and getting the run around until they were ready to do it. the surgery was pretty easy. i was asleep for like 2-3 hours. the first day was painful but everyday i recovered. i think i had to take like 2 weeks off from lifting then could lift light

Just checking in today. Had a busy weekend. As I transition down from my blast, I can definitely feel the endurance and power dipping a bit. Had to lower the weight on a few exercises, but staying pretty close for now. Honestly, I am not certain that it isn't also caused by the sleep deprivation and now the Afib. I know for certain that the consistent lack of sleep is beginning to affect me both cognitively and physically. The doctor's are pretty sure that once we can get sleep restored on a regular basis that my Afib will go away. Until then, I am on a new med cocktail (anti-arrhythmic + blood thinner). Meds seem to be working for the most part. Had some issues yesterday, but it was rest day so I rested. LOL

Had a decently solid leg day today and did my cardio on the elliptical without issue. Really kind of sucks dealing with issues like this. But we all have issues come up from time to time. My goal is to work around it or through it. Not going to let this stop me. Not a chance.

Working on getting my nutrition plan laid out as well as my healing stack. Plan on running BP157/TB500 for sure during healing process. I also think I will bump my HGH from 2iu's before bed to 3iu's before bed. Still thinking about how I may want to throw GHK-CU or KPV in the mix. My goal is to stimulate maximum healing and tissue regeneration to get back to training as soon as possible. Docs say 8 weeks before any kind of meaningful training. I am thinking 6 weeks sounds way better. We will see. I am still putting this game plan together in terms of the healing stack. Whatever I do it will be thoroughly planned and executed. I just need to get some decent sleep as that as also key to recovery. Hoping the docs pull through on getting my sleep study scheduled quicker than January as I have been initially told.

Good job pushing that leg day even with the blast coming down :D
BPC and TB500 with 3iu HGH is a solid healing stack so just get that sleep study fast because real recovery will come once your nights level out. @BigD9795

I’m working on the sleep study. Called them every day last week. Called yesterday. I hope to hear something today. It may be the middle of January according to the last person I talked to. 🤬

you can try to do a CPAP yourself have you done it? @BigD9795

Yes. I’ve got a brand new one that is auto sensing. But it’s blowing too hard no matter what I set it on. Makes me feel like I’m being waterboarded. Wake up and can’t breathe. NOT GOOD.
not good at all.

The good thing is when you have a doctor managing it is they can adjust your levels for you so it won't do that. I am pretty sure they can do it digitally where you don't have to bring in the machine and it's all done over the web. You do have to bring in your sd card for there review once a year.

Sleep has been very hard to come by for the last week. Been averaging about 4 hours per night. This morning I was really just super tired. I decided to back off on the weights some today and shoot for good reps. Also changed up some exercises from my normal thinking maybe some muscle confusion might help things as well. This was the first time in a LONG time that I was literally having to rely on discipline to push through this workout. Focused on good form over the weights to avoid injury. I know that when you are this tired it is easy to get sloppy. So tried to keep that my main focus. Finally got an appointment to see a sleep specialist and then they have to schedule the new sleep study. I hate all the hoops you have to jump through just to get healthcare. People are literally dying because they can't get in to a doctor to get treatment. So they die before ever being treated for their issues. It happens all the time. Makes no sense at all to me. But that is the medical system here in the states.

I guess I will rest when I have surgery. Or try to. LOL

No, brother, it’s not. But I’ll get this thing figured out eventually. I just need the doctors to do their part and actually get me in for the study.
hopefully you get this lined up :D with a good cpap I think there is a whole issue with fitting the machines

The other nice thing with going through a doc is they will try different mask to find the one that fits you best. Then you get new supplies every 3 months typically insurance pays for them.

Yeah. I tried to save some money before and do the at home study. I think in my case that was a mistake. Oh well, live and learn. I see the sleep specialist tomorrow. I’m hoping they can get the sleep study done soon. I’m ready to get past this hurdle and move forward. I would kill for a good nights sleep with no constant wake ups. 😁

I haven't slept the same ever since my wife jumped from the balcony. @BigD9795 So for me that's just par for the course. It's one of the things that you will have to continue working on.

Yeah, I have wondered if this would just be life from now on. Like the longer I am in an unhealthy sleep pattern, if it can ever change. I don't know.

I love mine. I was so bad they put me on a bipap. I been on mine for over 10 years now. I was passing out driving at 10 am when I finally decided something wasn't right. You got any questions about it let me know.

You will get it sorted. Man, it sounds like you just have to find the right sleep specialist to figure this out. We support you 100% and you're going to help others who are in your situation. @BigD9795

I do plan to ask them about Bipap at my appointment tomorrow. I don't care what it takes, I need to get this resolved. Or at least a lot better. Thank you for reaching out. I appreciate it more than you know. It is hard to explain what this fatigue is like to someone who has never experienced it. It is crazy. I have been staying away from crazy amounts of stimulants, but I can see how some people gravitate to hardcore stuff to get alert and then need downers to go to sleep. BTW, not even a thought of mine nor will it be considered as an option. I am trying to live a longer life, not a shorter one.

Absolutely I will support others in this situation. That is what this community is about. I will be logging this whole experience and of course always available for additional questions from anyone.

BTW, not even a thought of mine nor will it be considered as an option. I am trying to live a longer life, not a shorter one.
You won't even know how bad it really was until you get that first good sleep on a machine. Then you will realize how bad you are. It was like night and day. Now I can't even take a nap in my recliner without my machine. I remember before I got it anytime I would sit I would fall asleep. We had to sit in the balcony at church cause I would fall asleep and snore during the sermon. My wife would keep elbowing me to make me stop. I just thought I worked and played hard. That was a life changer like Mounjaro and TRT. If anyone snores they should go get checked and if your wife snores have them go get checked. My wife is on a CPAP as well.

Yeah, I have wondered if this would just be life from now on. Like the longer I am in an unhealthy sleep pattern, if it can ever change. I don't know.
yeah i have accepted the way things are.

I was taking 10mg melatonin. Doc told me to get off of it for a while. I take zinc. I take Magnesium. The only thing I don’t have is the Valerian.
why no melatonin?
and valerian try to add 500mgs see how you feel @BigD9795

I don’t currently have any but can easily get it. Also been looking at CBN for sleep. I have to stay away from THC though. It helps me fall asleep. But it also makes me ravenously hungry when I wake up. Not a good combo for me. 😳
You can get cbd low thc but even with tch you try the ones no hunger? what state are you in for legality? @BigD9795

I have a license to get anything I want from a dispensary. It’s just that being a former fatty I don’t like anything that gives me cravings. THC puts mine into overdrive. 🤣🤬
how about thc without the hunger? :D they dont have the strains? @BigD9795

Upper A

Fasting Weight: 237

Or try to. LOL

I took a couple of quick screen shots of my workout this morning. That’s what I did. 😁

No naps. I don’t get much free time to do that.

Not going to lie. This morning's Leg B (Hammy Focus), was pretty brutal to get going. Had a little more than 4 hours sleep and that's not a lot of go juice to help get you motivated. But discipline trumps motivation all day, every day. Got it done. Didn't do cardio. Going to have to make that up.

Got some good news today. They worked me in for a sleep study Monday night. At first they told me January 4th. So I told the lady that if they had any last minute cancellations I'd take it any day or time. She called me back about 10 minutes later. So finally maybe some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

@BigD9795 man that's so exciting. I'm really looking forward to seeing more about your sleep study. I've been obsessing over sleep my whole life since I read an article about it when I was like 8 years old on an airplane.

I can tell you that when I was younger I would run on very little sleep it seemed without issue. But back then I could sleep all damn day if I chose to. Now that I’m older and training hard, and juggling th demands of a full time job, being a father, husband, and grandfather. The responsibilities hit different, ya know? Now I truly wish I could get the sleep I know I need. And for now it evades me. It’s making life a lot harder than it should be, but there are others out there that are dealing with far worse I’m quite sure. So I try to keep things in perspective. I’ve had sleep studies in the past many years ago when I was obese. I hated them. It this time is different. I can’t wait to get this thing done so maybe we can get some answers. I mentioning, what if my body is so conditioned to crappy sleep that it will be like trying to break an addiction just to get my normal sleep patterns back. Who knows?

@BigD9795 leg press and seated machine calf press are outstanding. I like the different repetitions you're doing and the amount of weight 720 lbs is incredible. That's not a bad idea with To train them super heavy.

That's what makes working legs worth it the effort and mental toughness involved

Today was a decent day. Got about 5 hours of sleep. I am deloading this week prepping for hernia repair surgery next week. Did Upper Body A routine. Kept the volume a little lower and weights at about 60% of normal. I usually train 5 days a week but will train 4 days this week and get an additional day of rest. I will still get plenty of steps in on my rest days. Or maybe even some really light resistance LISS. My surgery is next Thursday. So Next Monday - Wednesday will be very light. Just get the blood pumping and try to keep the stress on my CNS very low. Hopefully cortisol will come down as well.

Sleep study TONIGHT! I am hoping for some results that will help the doctors dial in this sleep thing. If I could just get the sleep, I think everything else will fall into place beautifully.

D

Good luck for the sleep study mate, sleeping with all the wires and cables is kind of crazy, but they are very thourough

Yeah. The doc said a week. It I’m starting g to get the message. It’s hard because I know it will be a long time and I’m going to really miss it for a while. But I also want the best recovery possible.
Its going to be ok I think you are healthy :D

Will be interesting to see the results of the study. 4-5 hours per night is tough going.

The study went well. There was an obvious difference between the pressures they used last night versus how my machine was programmed. The sleep tech said mine was way too high. So now I wait to see what the analysis of my study is and what their recommendations are.
lets see how it goes :D

Looking forward to seeing the results of this. I had one done and it was determined I didn't need a CPAP and apparently I slept almost 'perfect'. It was my girl HarleyGirl who asked me to go because of snoring so I took the results and said toobad haha!

Any current updates on your recent heart issues?

The new med they prescribed has nearly stopped the racing heart rate. The only down side to that is getting my heart rate where I want it during cardio. Oh well, I will take it.
