I had always wondered how crazy America was with the straight flavoured egg protein drinks but maybe they were onto something

I’ve never seen a straight flavored egg protein drink? I’m an American. I just sort of copied @vanlife_gymbum and it tasted just like eggnog.

I'm thinking of MuscleEgg, I'm not sure how popular it is I just know it's not in Australia as far as I'm aware.

Looks like blended flavoured egg whites in bulk drinking form.
 
Haha okay deal bro! Gonna have to request we start the timer on Wednesday though. I just had my last three eggs in shake #2 for today. I had my 6000 step walk at 8am to the pharmacy and back then had one shake with 4 eggs before meeting @Dave1288499 at 9:30 where he was doing a depletion workout which was fun because we did small amounts on lots of different machines and body parts. He's got his weigh-in for his show tomorrow at 16:30 in about three hours time. He was looking really lean and meaty in the locker room after where his friend and I gave him a proper inspection 😂




That's it bro! Was a couple of weeks worth of trial and error and you helping me modify things to land here but this is gonna be perfect for me and I believe sustainable. I need to focus on a plan to get the $70 for eggs and $130 for powder but that's all I need so I will manage somehow. And rice is cheap and I already have a big pot made up.

About to have a plate of rice after the shake and loading up for tonight. I'm going to go to the fancy gym alone and do a workout I've had simmering in my mind all week. Learnt a bunch of new dumbbell moves which I think will complement my workouts, just figuring out how to slot them in and how to write down the routines and schedule I've been working on in a way it's easy to show you guys and get feedback.

Meeting Dave for a heavy leg day on Sunday before he returns home. He's pretty locked in and focused on his weigh-in and show tomorrow, he's approaching it in a very methodical way and seems really professional to my layman's eye.
Good stuff, the eggs and powder setup is simple and covers what you need, rice keeps it cheap and fills the gaps so you’re sorted there. That walk and the depletion session sounded like a good sweat and cool that you got to see @Dave1288499 dialed in before weigh-in, those last hours before stage always look sharp. Nice you’re learning new dumbbell work too, write it down clean so you can track weights and progression. Heavy legs Sunday with him will be solid, just watch recovery since he’ll be drained post-show. :D @vanlife_gymbum

Solid log. Sleeping that much and hitting thirty thousand steps a day is massive for recovery and conditioning, nice work. Lifting with Dave and using the massage gun shows you’re balancing intensity and recovery, log the weights, sets and how your joints feel so we can judge progress. Shakes plus rice will keep calories up, don’t worry about rinsing the rice but it helps texture, and post the training pics and your injection notes and I’ll call out rep ranges, load and any e2 or symptom flags. :D

Hi everyone,

I only joined last night but have already beem welcomed by several people and got some chats going on. I feel this is the place I've been looking for. I read through a out 50 complete journals and went through the Aus/NZ and recovery sections. Couldn't have asked for more really.

I just turned 40 and am form New Zealand.

This will be my first time logging and I have to figure out a nice way to do it. I'm sorry if this is too much text but I wanted to try detail where I am currently and what lead me here as a baseline.
For weekly updates I hope to get a nice clean format for laying out what I ate and lifted and took.

I've been listening to the podcast for a year now and have learnt so much, and also for a year I've been telling myself I will start a log here but took a while to atcually do it.

I am not in a rush. I wanted to wait until I stalled in weight loss and had my training and diet more consistent and also had more knowledge and experience form working with the PT. I feel that time is near.
I have two years of quarterly tests for base line bloods of various types as well as ECGs, testosterone level checks and did one of each of those last week.
I will try get copies of all the results to share here. If that proves difficult I'll get private ones done.

I have a 2500mg Vial of Test E in the mail and will order an AI tonight. I'm going to test the waters at 150mg for a couple of weeks then titrate up by 50mg a week until 400mg and all going well stay there a good while. I fully intend to log and monitor and analyse all this, as well as listen to feedback and suggestions.

I'm not an ego driven person and like to share and help others but also happy to be helped or shown the way and easily admit when I'm wrong.

I haven't tracked much to do with sleep but I have made so much progress correcting my lifetime of poor sleep. I have had some ups and downs as I adjust to getting fitter but exercise has been a godsend for this, often I just go to sleep at 9pm and wake up naturally at 5 or 6. There's a whole other world going on in the early hours I was previously unaware of, I'm enjoying becoming a part of it. The gym is packed by 6am when I go in to do cardio. There's people surfing at the beach, people out walking and running, it's kinda exciting to me still.

Diet

I want to stay on a egg and beef heavy keto diet for now. I cook in my van and one ingredient meals suit me.
Ground beef, corned beef, eggs and salmon from cans is easy for me and mainly what I eat.

I decided to just try focus on hitting my protein target of 200g for now. I can't stay under the 30g carb limit for keto because I drink two litres worth of milk in coffee a day, so keto is just a convenient way of describing it. I did switch to cream for a while but I can't afford it.

I go to the farmers market weekly to get rural farm eggs and I intend to form a relationship with butchers and farmers soon. I always thought it was cool that Jay Cutler used to model for his local rural farm stand in exchange for free eggs.
I've attached a couple of random day logs from my food tracking app.

I used to be much fatter. Those 24 beers a day I used to drink was about 3600 calories, 300 carbs. Adding to that whatever I ate and it's not a pretty picture. You can probably imagine what I might have looked like.

I did lose a lot of weight in the past two years but I wasn't tracking anything or taking photos but I was trying to do the keto diet.

I always used to think I wasn't into sugar and never ate junk food but in hindsight I felt that way because of the massive sugar and carb intake from beer which was a full on blind spot - I think had I logged that into an app even once I would have been shocked.

When I quit all of a sudden I could wolf down two family-sized blocks of chocolate and I'm still chubby (see photo) though I think I've got a handle on that now.

I used a few tricks to do that, namely spending my now small weekly food budget as soon as I got it, I'd go get two trays of eggs and 15 cans of corned beef so the option to buy junk food went away. It was a mental thing for me, I found myself a couple of times feinding for it like I used to for drugs. I was a little bit ashamed of myself for it.

Though I didn't really notice the weight loss myself, others did. My mum showed me some photos of my face before and now and it was atcually a pretty big difference. Going further than where I am now I think will require me putting in much more effort, I feel kinda stalled. I could stop dairy for a while and loose a little more just from that I think.

Training

I have had a PT for 5 months now, one hour a week, and I've learnt so much from him. I'm really glad I'm doing it. No way I could have learnt this much by myself.

I have a few sessions I default to, for legs I copied one of Lee Haneys Championship Workout routines and it stuck, that is:

- Pre-exaustion on leg curls and leg extensions, 3 sets of 12 for each.
- Then Hack Squat or Leg Press, finish with calf raises.

I'm really attracted to the hack squat and leg press, I do this twice a week. His idea was to use the pre exhaustion so you didn't need to Max out on the compound machines and I think it works. When I do hack squat first and go heavier I don't feel quote as broken the day after. Still experimenting with this.

I really haven't nailed how to record my workout sessions. That's one thing I want to figure out as part of my logging here. One session we did recently was:

- Seated Row
Weight (kg): 7.5/11.25/15/17.5
Reps: 12/12/12/12(2 rir)

- Captain’s Chair
23 Reps of bent knee, 10 of straight leg. He wanted to see my limit on first try.
- Leg Press
Weight: 40/65/75/85*
Reps: 12/12/12(2)/12* (1 rir, 5/4/3 “rest-pause” set with 5 sec rests.)
- Kneeling rope pulldown
Weight: 5/7.5/10
Reps: 12/12/12(2

I've attached a screenshot from my spreadsheet, it shows three or four sessions i did with my trainer.

The other week he taight me the 8x8 “Gironda” trick with 30 sec rests on the Leg Extension:

Weight: 20/30/”/”/”/”/”/”/”
Reps: 12/8/8/8/8/8/8/8/20 (Failure)

That did me in. I was making noises and a lady stopped and pretended to wait for the machine and watched then left when I was done. And I really was done. It was like the sound stopped and something took over me, it was amazing.

Cardio

I either go to the gym and do 30 minutes steady state on the stationery bike first thing in the morning where my heart rate gets to about 110, I start sweating lightly at 15 minutes.

If I sleep in or miss this I walk to the pharmacy which is a one hour round trip.

That's what I currently do consistently but I've always been a big walker. Being drunk all the time I basically never drove. But i have some goals and plans for more cardio:

Want to start roller derby again and train to become a referee. I did an 8 week beginner course last winter but stopped after it finished. I just went along to support mu lady friend at the time and was just going to watch but the girls there came at me hard, literally called me a pussy while forcing dodgy skates onto me. As soon as I stood up on them I felt a rush of adrenalin, it was really fucking fun and I was hooked.

I want to go once a week, it's 2 hours and I'll probably spew first time, it's really fucking taxing. Despite doing quite a lot of walking and biking I'm nowhere near fit enough to do skate drills for two hours.

I've always wanted to do yoga or Tai Chi or something like that. I have a fancy gym membership that gives access to yoga/plates studios owned by the same company. I'd like to add a one hour group class sometime.

I want to be more consistent with meditation and breath work too.

Lastly I want to start using my skateboard as transport again and maybe get a surf board this summer. It's way too cold in the southern hemisphere still.

Substances and Prescriptions

I have been on the methadone program for three years and now take 90mg a day. I spent two years on 120mg and tapered to 80mg the first half of this year, it went poorly and I wasted 6 months in bed more or less. Had to go back up 10mg to 90mg where I am now. The program requires me to get ECGs twice a year, so I have three years worth of those

I take Antabuse daily and have been for two years. This is why I have quarterly liver tests. I feel I don't need it anymore, but I robbed my mother of sleep and peace of mind over the past two decades and I know she finds comfort knowing a pharmacist watches me wash antabuse down with my methadone every day so don't want to, however it's a variable in this, adds to poly-pharma issues and I think I should stop while taking testosterone. If anyone has any knowledge or experience I'm all ears.

I have been prescribed a daily multi vitamin and thiamine tablet also, based on blood tests during detox, I should request another test now and see if I still have deficiencies.
I had fatty liver at detox too, but that has been confirmed to have been completely reversed. I'm lucky I think and intend to make the most of this second chance.

Smoking and Vaping

This year marked the end of my 25 year relationship with nicotine - one of the things i truely regret. In my youth I think I would have had a shot at becoming a pro skateboarder but just after I turned 15 I started smoking daily, and later that year I started working full time and become a pack a day smoker which was two packs by 18 and after that I started rolling my own and could get through 20 grams a day and more if I was drinking that day, which I was. And I just let skating go.. just like that, all that effort and plans and I traded it for tobacco without a second thought, it's unbelievable in retrospect but it is what it is.

I was an early adopter of vaping, started in 2008 but the devices were so crappy that it didn't dawn on me you could replace cigs with them full time. I mainly had them for long haul flights. 2015 I was building them and making my own juice ans lasted a year then went back to the fags almost without thought, I just did. Insanity. But in 2021 I went back to vaping again and I got massive improvements in lung capacity and energy, etc but the truth of the matter is I had it in my hand 24/7. No exaggeration, I fell asleep with it and as soon as I opened my eyes I resumed. It's a hell of a lot better than cigarettes.

When I started training this became more and more of a problem. And I decided I'm done, and registered with the governments quit smoking service and they gave me a script for enough patches to do a three stage taper of six months, and gum/lozenges. That was two months ago and I am ready to ditch the patches, but I may try the weakest patches and see, just to finish the 3 month version of the program. I ditched the gum in week 3 and my mind slowly forgot about it all.

I slept 9, 10, 10, 12 hours the past four days, hit around 30k steps each of those and have been lifting with Dave. He's got his show today, I'm late for rust descaling on the ship which would be 5000 steps away if I didn't need to detour past the methadone pharmacy which is 2000 additional steps off course. Should get there just in time to slip in the back way, get my overalls on and slide into the kitchen for authentic oldlady-made sandwiches.

I'm sorry about the radio silence guys, been struggling to manage all this data tbh. I know I never show you any data and instead ramble off topic, but I always intent to.. this next week I'm going to sort that out properly.

I have the tracker watch now, my program is complete enough that I have stuff scheduled every day, my diet is about as close to "just focus on the shakes bro" as it possibly cloud be, but getting a few mouthfuls of rice in throughout the day. It's very convenient being able to just pick the pot up and eat it. Usually preparing anything is an ordeal.

So I promise I'll get onto the template and adding data, but now I have to leg to to the ship. These photos are from the missing days, but I will post the training pics and advice I got soon.

If you ever wondered what rice looks like cooked if you don't wash it first that pic is the answer. I mean I can tell, but gonna start not washing.

But seriously bro this is amazing, children would dream of sitting around drinking candy-banana flavored milkshakes all day. I tried 5 eggs yesterday and it didn't even push the thickness above water or the shake powder alone.

I had a pretty strict meat and eggs carnivore diet and I was not hitting 200 most days so this is pretty crazy. I watched what @HarleyGuy and @Noah Wixx and @BeMe were doing with protein and it seemed inaccessible for some reason. But since @LevButlerov showed me the Way of the Shake and I figured out how to drink 20 eggs a day like nothing it's sliding into place pretty nicely :)

I'm cool with wiping out colony loads eggs but there's a line haha. I saw a video of a guy blend up chicken and I was dry retching watching it.. I find chicken pretty average at the best of times tho. And after seeing @HarleyGuy only getting 150g protein from an entire chicken I'm not rushing out to get a bigger blender 😂

Florida is probably the best place to buy second hand vans.. many a van-related dream died there and was quickly packaged up for resale. You could get one with a water-bed and disco-ball preinstalled for the price I paid for mine! Highly recommend

Why are so few people just using small RVs? I got my RV practically for free. It has a/c, a furnace, a fridge. It costs $600/year to insure. It’s just not stealthy. But the jig is up. Everybody knows of you’re in a van or an ambulance at Walmart you’re a van lifer. So what’s the difference? Hahaha.

In Australia and NZ it's because the registration charges and vehicle categories are based on weight so they cost way more and also because petrol/desil costs shitloads also. My friends have old 70s Toyota's and they only take them out on the weekends because of gas. In the USA it's definitely because of stealth, but weather that's valid or not I dunno.. some places like California for sure it's real but I think there's a lot of pussies in America who are unreliable storytellers and it's hard to tell what the reality is... and at the other end of the spectrum the police shoot you with a gun while you're asleep.

Nah but they look pretty good, I do have a reprint of the squatting book you recommend coming tho. The pic is an advert in the back of book I got called Muscle Mechanics which is phenomenal, its like a text book but with practical advice on how to apply it too and covers a wider range of things than you'd expect, lots of stuff about breathing, energy systems, spine and posture. An entire second on the brain I haven't read but it talks about how the different energy systems and pathways affect different parts of the brain... and other topics I didn't really expect to see in it.

Yeah my RV has a v10. Gets 6mpg or 2.5 km/l if that’s how the metric world measures. You wouldn’t want to move around a lot, that’s for sure.

So many van lifers in Cali. I was planning on keeping a van out there, and storing it near an airport, for my adventures. You can’t tell if someone is a millionaire or an actual bum, necessarily, in Cali. But the vans have a lot of advantages for parking space and maneuverability. There’s also less stuff to go wrong. Definitely depends on where you are, but I’ve slept in my trucks hundreds of times and I had a sign that said “not on drugs, just resting” and I would put it in the window and leave the window open enough that they wouldn’t have to break it. Getting shot by the cops is fairly rare. Getting harassed by them is definitely not rare and is usually my biggest concern

I agree man! It's not a big deal at all. That's the second long term habit this week I've finally questioned and changed. Both my doors are broken so I have to climb over the front seats to get out of my van so going outside to wash rice is impractical. I also have to walk to a tap to get the water to begin with so I like to mostly drink it and use it to make coffee with and don't use it to wash stuff with.

The other thing was that I always just assumed drinking eggs was gross, but it's completely false and basically is the opposite.

Eggnog’s definitely an acquired taste, but egg-based shakes can actually be pretty good if they’re mixed right with some flavoring or sweetener. Way smoother and easier to drink than the holiday stuff people usually think of. :D

Eggnog (non-alcoholic) is a Christmas staple up here in Canada. I'm not a huge fan but always have 1 glass on Christmas day just for the nostalgia.

Ya bro chicken breast is recomping and cutting and lower protein. If you're trying to lose fat and build clean mass go with red meat and low carbs.

I found a place with 20 eggs for $13, not the $10 I originally thought but still I think I can manage if I put my mind to it. I need to come up with a plan so I can drink a tray every day:

I’ve been trying these whey and eggs shakes. Am I missing something? It’s very unsatisfying lol. I could really consume a lot of these and feel like there’s nothing in my stomach hahahaha. I just did five eggs, water, scoop of whey, tiny monkfruit pinch. That’s like 75g of protein. I wonder if I can get peanut butter into it. I used to put heavy whipping cream in shakes. Liquid food just doesn’t hit for me.

Some of the nearby businesses were making noises about having so many swole dudes chained to desks writing books so they hired a few fat chicks to put in the window too to balance things out a bit.

But it turned out none of the fat chicks were also database administrators so the db is a bit hit and miss but if you hit reload a few times you might get lucky :) I have off-line copies for times like this.

I just got back from meeting up with fellow Evo logger @Dave1288499. He got the same gym membership as me on the bus on his way to Wellington and I went and picked up his tag for him before they closed.

We went straight to the gym. I poorly timed my reta EOD shot and ate an apple right before leaving. I left his free gym bag for new members in my van and ran back to get it before he arrived and the run was taxing and the reta and apple mixed and I spewed on the side of the gym. Guess it's gonna be a fasted lifting session.

This was my first time going to the gym with someone else before and I had an awesome time, Dave had his other really strong mate with him and the three of us went hard.

I don't think photos can capture what's going on with his muscle definition very well, it was pretty awesome to see in person. Dave's a cool guy and knows tons about training and guided his friend and me through a pretty hardcore arm session, I learnt tons of new shit and it's much appreciated thanks bro.

I am too tired to write up our session tonight but everything he showed me was new. I feel absolutely destroyed now but feel great. It's pissing down raining on my roof and it's 1am and time to crash. We're gonna meet up again and go lifting in the morning so I'll write out our exercises and sets tomorrow.

Being able to prod the different part of his muscle while it was under heavy load was really trippy and trying to figure out wtf was going on with the different parts I've never seen directly before was definitely educational.

We were really riding the good vibrations in the gym and people definatly noticed him and were pretty obvious about it haha

A young guy came over and took the other cable station half and started doing the Sword-Scabbard Pulls and so I struck up a conversation with him using that as the opener - he was cool and called them cable side lateral raises. He and his friend at the next cable station were both checking bro out with great interest pretty blatantly

Then this buff Indian dude I've seen a few times before on the captins chair leg raise machine directly behind us also preformed a pretty thorough inspection from the rare before doing a lap around the long way to his next machine to have a geeze from the other side.

Later a chick at the fixed small barbell and eze-bar rack kinda positioned herself in a way that made her open to being assisted which was kinda smooth of her and bro was atcually pretty smooth in return and gave her the ten that I was hoping to get, forcing me to use the 15, also pretty smooth. I wouldn't be surprised if she did that to get a better look at him tho 😎

We ran into an impressive dude too, after we were done while I was putting my clothes back on in the locker room a guy dressed for running in neon yellow came in dripping with sweat hardcore but was friendly and we talked to him about his crazy 4th wall running stuff and he was clearly at an advanced level of fitness and Dave probed him pretty hard for technical details of his training which he was surprisingly receptive too and he told us some cool shit.

Then we left the big gym and walked over the road to the exclusive R18 gym.

These guys are from a rural area in the middle of the countryside an hours drive away from a gym and just like me three weeks ago, I dont think had never seen anything the likes of this place before. It's very flash and ultra-modern and the perfect place to wind down a bit. I think they liked what they saw.

This is Dave's gym now too, we're both in the exclusive club and we should make good use of exclusive gear for recovery we have access to now. I gave him a brief tour of the Nautilus machines but we got down to business and went upstairs where the massage gear, infra-red saunas, pilates room, couch, and massage chair room with rainforest sound noises and a giant movie screen playing soothing natural bush flyover scenery lives, very very nice.

We had to wait for a group of three girls and one guy finished their turns and vacated the recovery and meditation room as they call the room, it has four ultra-modern massage chairs that must cost a shit ton. They are awesome and I've been getting physical recovery gains from regular half hour sessions. I can plug my phone into the wall to change while I do it.

While waiting we played around with the electric massage hammer guns and vibrating balls and Bluetooth foam rollers.. and Dave was making plans for the infra-red sauna during the week but the details of that went over my head.

We did the half hour "after sports" massage routine which is basically full-body going through each section of your body one by one. Both him and his mate looked stoned half way through, or half asleep.. pretty sure they were digging it.

Time to crash hard.

I haven't been to the gym yet, gonna go at 9pm because I had a three hour nap this afternoon :)
 
It's working out nicely bro, today was exactly the same as yesterdays egg update, 20 eggs over four shakes with three scoops of ON Gold whey each, so I've had 404g protien today as well. Cant be bothered making rice so im just going to leave it until tomorrow.

I haven't been to the gym yet, gonna go at 9pm because I had a three hour nap this afternoon :)

Today is day 5, your memory is better than mine bro ;) I hit 400 every day, had two shakes that had an extra scoop instead of eggs. They wernt the same... I think the eggs change it from being completely reconstituted powder to containing something more real and I think the 5 eggs significantly increase the nutritional value in total.

Like if you look at the protein numbers it's annoying that 5 eggs only have 29g of protein and the extra scoop is probably easier but I think over a few more weeks it'll be more sustainable this way. Plus I'm not throwing any away, all of those 20 eggs are getting swallowed. The fat in them is probably good too. Thanks for your help with this Lev, I never would have thought to do this :)

Day 5 at 400g is a good thing, you’re locking in consistency now. Eggs do make it more complete compared to just powder, the fats and micros carry value beyond the protein count. Stick with this setup a week and you become a protein KING, but you’ll really see the payoff in recovery and fullness long term. Just bump up the training, you doing it ED?

I slept 9, 10, 10, 12 hours the past four days, hit around 30k steps each of those and have been lifting with Dave. He's got his show today, I'm late for rust descaling on the ship which would be 5000 steps away if I didn't need to detour past the methadone pharmacy which is 2000 additional steps off course. Should get there just in time to slip in the back way, get my overalls on and slide into the kitchen for authentic oldlady-made sandwiches.

I'm sorry about the radio silence guys, been struggling to manage all this data tbh. I know I never show you any data and instead ramble off topic, but I always intent to.. this next week I'm going to sort that out properly.

I have the tracker watch now, my program is complete enough that I have stuff scheduled every day, my diet is about as close to "just focus on the shakes bro" as it possibly cloud be, but getting a few mouthfuls of rice in throughout the day. It's very convenient being able to just pick the pot up and eat it. Usually preparing anything is an ordeal.

So I promise I'll get onto the template and adding data, but now I have to leg to to the ship. These photos are from the missing days, but I will post the training pics and advice I got soon.

If you ever wondered what rice looks like cooked if you don't wash it first that pic is the answer. I mean I can tell, but gonna start not washing.

New Daily Protien Baseline: 404 Grams

I've been running barnyard-loads of eggs through my blender with whey powder. Over four banana flavored shakes I'm drinking 20 eggs a day like they're water, it's not an ordeal at all. Rocky was psyop to try and keep us away from anabolic steriods and ingesting eggs in liquid form.

I just have to stay on top of the money ($130 a week for whey and $70 for eggs) but I'm really pleased with how this idea is shaping up. I screwed around the first week trying to separate egg whites and shit but there's no need.

I'm going to get another flavor tonight when I get this week's 5lbs tub coz there's a good few scoops of this one left so I can save up and have a few different flavors and types to experiment with. Gonna see what else I can add in the future, especially interested in trying what @HarleyGuy was doing with collegen in his, but for now 4 shakes a day letting me hit 400g protein and drink an entire tray of eggs is pretty fukkin' sweet.

The EOD retatrutide shots are going good, think I've leveled out nicely. I feel fully in control of my diet, a position I've never really been in before. Even with carnivore which worked well for me on and off over the last 7 years I'd still fuck up with chocolate binges after a couple of weeks of feeling great.

Lifting session last night went well, it was good to be back in the Nautilus gym after a week lifting in the big gym. It's only been open three weeks but I'm getting attached to the machines and have been doing 30 minutes on the massage chair in the morning when I go in to shower and charge my phone, and another 30 minutes after lifting and the massage chair rivals any human massage I've even gotten so I'm basically being massaged twice a day as part of my daily routine. I think it really helps and you guys should try it even though it kinda sucks how the chairs are usually right in the middle of the gym, not in a special room that plays rainforest noises like I have 😁

Squat Form and Plan

I have been trying to incorporate squats into my program. I was thinking one heavy leg day a week with hacksquat or leg press in addition to sets of bar-squats, and the other mainly bar-squats. I've got two clips of me doing reps to get form feedback, already heard from three people and it's been good. I'll keep taking more videos as I go until I get the form nailed.




I got some feedback from my Swedish lifter mate on the first video and will try record a new video tomorrow night to try again with updated instructions.

This plate video pre-dates talking to him but my PT also had me use a plate on the ground when we did bodyweight squats holding a plate. I don't mind using the plate for now, might be one less thing to remember:




My Swedish friend said it looks like I have "buttwink" and there's videos on how to fix it and that I'm holding the bar too wide and should correct that before I add weight

I've also been listening to training focused episodes podcast episodes lately, especially about squatting but I got lots of ideas for other stuff to try in the future too.

There's a bunch of good advice for new lifters in this podcast episode about how to get better at bench-press, deadlift and squat. I appreciated the bits where @stevesmi is talking about knees and joints and putting strain on your back. That shit is important to me but gets overlooked a lot. Honestly I've wanted to get into squats since 2018 when I bought a squat rack but I'd just fractured by spine the first time and was so worried about injury and form, and also I couldn't stop drinking to get into it and I didn't get very far.

I think the suggestion @Mobster gave me to get comfortable with just the bar first is working for me. Doing two sessions a week with as many sets of 12 bar squats as I can is the loose goal. I average about 6 currently.

In the podcast he said to just "get under a barbell and learn to squat, and when you've mastered the basics you can work on the nuances".

Last week when I started and did about 7 sets of 12 over the workout I got DOMS in my legs two days after just as bad as from the leg workouts I was previously doing.

They were basically using pre-exaustion on the leg extension and leg curl before doing heavy hacksquat or leg press. I had that routine down in my head and could do it without too much thought even when the gym was busy so did it a lot.

Next session I'm going to try the method @stevesmi suggests to learn the lift properly where you do front squats with a bench behind you.

Youtube "hinging" before you squat. I find too that with some weight on the bar it actually helps you with proper form whereas just the bar itself can make you feel kinda floppy if that makes sense.

And the protein intake... now we're talking! The collagen over time is a good investment. Get the powder, not the pills. Looks like you've stepped up your game brother well done! Glad that night binging is under control, it's a real freakin issue man I hear ya!

Yeah I do know what you mean, and did wonder about that with the weight. They atcually have some odd 5kg plates at tjar lifting pad, they're only 5s but are shaped like a full 20kg plate, I was wondering if that's what those were for...

I'll work more on the hinge and take some more form videos, I often forget to raise my chest too.

I'm looking forward to seeing where my protein lands when I atcually start eating food again too :) I still have links I found for collegen powder queued up from when you explained what to get. When I started squating, I rested the bar on that shelf of my shoulders as well. I find it creates a disadvantageous leverage that can lean you forward and screw up the whole bar path. If you can get your hands much closer together and the bar down off the shelf your posture will change and it might help with the buttwink

You are squatting “high bar”. I’m describing “low bar”. I agree with above that I need a little bit of weight on the bar to settle me in. Like ballast. When I first started squatting my knees would be moving back and forth horizontally as the weight became challenging. I eventually had to start over and completely relearn how to squat. I think I have pretty decent form now, and I can get all the way down with my heels flat, however I generally stop just short of that and just short of my knees locking out since both of those positions are completely unloading the movement and feel unnecessary to me.
 
Day 35: Dole Day Re-Up

Dole day in New Zealand, not as commercially fruitful as pension day if you're not in the horse racing or liquor industries but I got in line with tradition and blew it all within the hour.

You may notice those are 18 packs and I have been getting 20. The fact they were from the NZ equivalent of Walmart (execpt I think Walmart sells food and this place traditionally does not) did not sit well with me. But atcually they were all out of the trays when I went and I need a reliable egg merchant I just decided to pay more for good eggs and have two less a day.

So these are $15 for 18 but I know where this companies farm is and the chickens are outside eating gass and insects too I guess, so the end resilt for me is going to be better.

They are not from a factory or one of those barns where they stack chickens they've loaded with steriods to the point they can't walk on top of each other until more than 50% of the bottom row are dead, usually about 5 high.

Retatrutide made me stop caring about rapidly approaching financial problems, as I know I can just not eat. I'm already walking everywhere instead of fixing my car.

I didn't eat half of Sunday, all of Monday and until just after 6pm yesterday where over two hours I ate 5 bananas and 5 apples and half an expensive can of Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon. I'm not even gonna pretend I'm a hippy anymore, I'm just eating imported shit in plain view. I'd be interested if you can beat me for "food miles" now haha. Alaska is a long fucking way away from New Zealand.

I also got more Magnesium and 1500mg Fish Oil pills to replace the rotting stuff. I didn't want to post a picture of that incase someone told me to stop but now you may as well see. I have an iron gut from basically living outside for the past 4 years so I wouldn't get any ideas that you could get away with it 😂

Made a bad call on changing flavors of whey and I'm gonna scrap that idea. I got another 5lbs tub of Optimum Nutrition Gold but this time Cookies and Cream flavor and it atcually had bits of shit floating in it like the ice cream flavour does. I honestly didn't see that coming. Who is this targeted at? What type of people need this? I will stick to the banana if I can't figure out what normal whey is.

That eating binge was a bad idea, too much water in apples and I just had a bloated stomach I was nursing for an hour and it felt like my body "took me down" so I could process all that food, an hour before I was excited about going to the Nautilus gym and trying squats again with the feedback from yesterday but instead was fast asleep before 9pm... I'll try again today.

True.. that's interesting bro, is it expensive? I was atcually wondering why I never hear much about lamb from overseas, here it's the default red meat choice and when I was looking for fatty meat it was the cheapest way to get the most far. Plus lamb in the slow cooker is about as good as it gets =) gonna get one of those next winter and make lamb stews up. I think winter would be a good time to stop taking reta and try to go up in weight.

Last year something went wrong in the UK at Christmas time and they had this massive abundance of lamb so a bunch of containers die for export got sold in firesales in NZ instead, I didn't have a freezer but got one whole leg which would usually cost $70 for $7. But usually we have to either pay the same price as you would in the usa, or get the b-cuts. I go to places where it's the b-cuts and get pretty good meat for decent price.
