I don't think taking supplements on empty stomach is a good idea. I drink shakes after 2 hours of my meal and 2 hours before training. I hit the gym really energized.
if you mean you have emtpy stomach, you have not to eat for 4 hours in order to be completely empty. so its not a smart choice to take protein shakes on empty stomach, kills the liver
