First Cycle Training

Hey gang -- soliciting some opinions from those that have been there.

I'm starting my first cycle ever -- 500 TestC /wk @ 12 weeks. Goal is increased strength, less concerned with "improving my looks."

For a first cycle would it be wise to switch to a linear progression program? A linear progression program works best when you are new-to-lifting, so would adding test for the first time make my body react like I was new-to-lifting again ?

On your first ever test cycle you are going to blow up and feel great, not sure exactly what you are asking with your training, if you just lift hard and eat right you are going to achieve your goal of increased strength..

Hey Justin, welcome!
Any muscle memory that you've acquired through consistent training isn't going anywhere once you start AAS'. The main concern with rapid increase in strength is that tendon, ligament, and joint strength can't keep up. It's important, at first, to use that extra strength to preform a better contraction and a more controlled negative motion rather that immediately start upping the weight.

Thanks for the feedback.

To clarify what I was trying to ask: If you remember when you first started training -- for example you could squat 5x5 Mon, Wed and Friday and probably add weight each time. Those days are long gone -- but was thinking that the added recovery and strength building potential of being on cycle would allow this type of progress again. What I had *not* considered was Mike's point about the supporting structures. I don't wanna snap my shit up.

Seems I'll be playing it by ear/feels. Since you only get one first cycle was wanting make sure I made the most of it, ya' know.

Hey I understand what you are saying. But like the guys said. ...FIRST cycles are usually epic. Eat clean and train hard and heavy. ...you will be more then happy with your gains both strength and looks.

^^^ I can attest to this. 9 days into my first and already feeling pumped and strong off just the d bol.

Hey TX, firstly I like where your heads at with putting extra thought and effort into yourtraining. I would just like to say that as previous guys have posted, you have to keep in mind that muscle strength may vastly surpass the regeneration and strengthening of connective tissues. Also, keep in mind that a drastic volume or frequency increase isn't always a great idea. Gear increases the rate at whch protein synthesis occurs, improving recovery, however your CNS is still very succeptible to overtraining. CNS burnout is a very real possibility, particularly when you are training heavy for strength gains, as you expressed is your primary focus. Just be instinctual and listen to your body, it may sound like blasphemy because you'll be "ON" and want to go full bore plus some, but if you start feeling worn out and sluggish, consider backing off a notch. Good luck dude

I always use linear progression and progressive overload despite being on cycle or not. I believe you should always set to best your numbers from the last workout every time you hit the gym

You're gonna get big on the first cycle no matter what ALMOST. I wouldn't put too much thought into it for this cycle man. But yes it would be fine.
