Sounds like up here on the May 24th long weekend when everyone is launching their boats the same day.yeah i don't know how the boat share program works in all situations. they are all different. one dude i know is part of one BUT the catch is he can only reserve the boat during the week. no weekends. then you gotta pay for fuel, bait, bring your own rods. use up tons of hooks and tackle which goes fast fishing wrecks. just easier to charter where they do it all unless you really make it a hobby and are willing to learn it all. there are apps now which tell you where the wrecks/reefs are, so it isn't like it used to be where only experienced captains knew where to go.
the big issue with owning a boat is you gotta get up super early to find a place to launch. and those launch places get super busy and people get super grouchy and drunk. there are YT vids out there of all the fights and arguments that happen.
My dad had one of those apps you were talking about. The boat share company had boats in all different harbours so you just needed to pay for fuel. The one he was part gave you access all across America and parts of Canada too. The deal was for every 10 new members that signed up in an area the company would buy another boat so the waits wouldn't be too bad.
I bet you'd like kayak fishing. Have you ever tried it? It's a great mix of fishing and fitness. Someone with an endurance background like you would probably be really good at it too
