Recovery Journal Sobriety Journal: An Alcoholic's Journey

Day 41

Hey Evo Fam,

I have had a very easy run thus far, Could be the Reta, could be from keeping so busy but its been a little too easy to which in this business you need to stay vigilant, my body is beat, joint pain, hand pain, Calf and Hamstring pain, its becoming increasingly difficult to stay on the trajectory so if I cut it back how will this effect this 'Easy run', its clearly from overtraining on weights but also the Boxing.

There's other things that come in to my training, I need to get my overweight 13 year old Autistic son in to weight training (he has showed interest) and getting more Physical so I will up his Boxing classes and start going to the gym with him and my wife wants to do weight training as well so I have to factor her in as well to my own training.

85kg by Sunday is the goal, for anyone who doesn't know; The Australian Heart Foundation says a 38 year old 6' male should be 85kg so I am solely wanting to get there just to say I did it.

Now is the time not to get complacent, my addiction could be doing a smoke and mirrors one me, its a cunning fuck doing pushups in my head and just because I can drown him out at the moment doesn't mean he isn't on his 1000th rep waiting in the shadows.

Thanks everyone! thanks @HarleyGuy ๐Ÿ’™

Love the dialogue. It is great to read something so honest and in the moment.
I didn't know the Heart Foundation goal (I probably should given my recent activities ๐Ÿ˜ฌ) but I have to say at a bit over 6' 2", I haven't been anywhere near 85kg since I was 18. I hope you however achieve that goal.
I can't comment on addictive behaviours with any expertise or experience at all so I will just say, bravo brother and keep doing what you need to do. I am sure if you don't @HarleyGuy will nag the absolute hell out of you till you do anyway ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

@3xCharm What does The Australian Heart Foundation say a 6โ€™4โ€ male should be? Lol

Read your entire thread brother. Excellent. Great Community here.

At my gym a Veteran brings his Autistic son in for exactly what you are doing with your son. Cardio. Dad has an injury from war and uses the seated bike pretty much exclusively. His son I would guess 7-8 years old got bored of sitting on that thing by the 3rd day and was mostly waiting for dad to finish. I warm up on the treadmill in front of them and I have experience with Autistic Children professionally so I started using my โ€œfidget spinnerโ€ (a popular toy in Autism/ADHD circles) and he immediately climbed up on the treadmill next to mine! Lol He watches me train and Iโ€™m looking for opportunities to actually meet dad and discuss it with him. The kid and I have never spoken or looked directly at each other. 100% non-verbal communication. Thatโ€™s the key!

I look forward to following this thread! Congratulations on today! ๐ŸŽ‰
Thatโ€™s terrific!

87kg (191lbs) kinda seems unrealistic doesnt it....

The easy run is been because you've stayed in your addictive mindset, replacing booze with addictive behaviour in the gym and with your diet. Remember this is a mind disease so since your mind is still addict activated it seems easy. Once you slow down and are left without something to be behave addictively over that's when you will experience both the second half Step of 1 and need to realize Step 2 fully and then concede to Step 3. Right now you're still doing your own life management using your own ideas which is fine since it's 'the gym' but even that as you see we will overdo instead of just 'do'.

Soon you may succumb to sugar addiction as you're entering that stage of PAWS now so be very mindful of that.

My advice for now is to keep hitting your in person meetings and throw yourself into your family and your EVO log/training/diet while balancing everything out. First order of business every morning though is "don't drink today" and it's that simple and that hard at the same time.

Once you're through PAWS and your head is clear we can start working the steps properly like you've never worked them before.

Happy to see this update :D @3xCharm and thanks to @HarleyGuy for staying steady with you.

If you have a lot of pain is it injuries?

on your son situation, i suggest you do home training and boxing first to get him comfortable in exercise, like boxing and push ups and sit ups style, get him to feel it.

On the size I wouldn't worry about AHF do it your way :D

The only problem with those numbers is it doesnt account for a muscular body, I am 193cm and it wants me to be like 92kg, I am currently 106 and probably 10 percent body fat, I would lose a ton of lean mass to get to their numbers - I am obese, and yes there is probably still stress on our bodys for carrying the weight, I would argue the lean mass adds other health benefits too.

However - your goal is a good one and for the right reasons - I am excited to watch your progress

By there measurements I'm extremely obese. At 174cm 5ft 8 110kg at 9%.

It's awesome to be able to see these responses explaining the phycology behind this in real-time.

I'd discuss the science of being fat a lot more but I wouldn't want to offend @Pigsy because according to the BMI he's the Fat Bastard and played the lead roll in Austin Powers with no fat suit on.:p

@3xCharm I think that you are having an easy run because you have a goal in place and you are sticking to it and being disciplined and it's easy as hell, isn't it? Plus your son is going to learn from you and follow your lifestyle choices so by showing him what to do, that's how kids learn. Just like parents who do drugs, kids are going to do drugs, same thing.

Bros, nice, seems like you got a new lease on life as they say. I think you should focus instead of where you want to be with body weight. You should focus on how you want to look because body weight is very deceiving. @3xCharm

Seems like if you keep your mind and body active, good things will happen. You won't have any need to go back to the way you were before and that's definitely a good thing to do. The EVO family supports you. @3xCharm

To make my addictive mind feel itโ€™s getting fulfillment I replace or placebo everything. For example instead of Hammer & Wild Turkey for breakfast I use the basic food groups (Caffeine, Nicotine and 22.7kg bellโ€™s) instead.
Sparingly of course! ๐Ÿ™„

In seriousness as I type this Iโ€™m 2 1/2 hours into my day sipping expertly made Coffee I enjoyed the ritual of slowly making more than drinking. I drink this stuff all day like a madman but use tiny espresso cups and grinding Whole Beans so measured out end of day itโ€™s 1/3 of the average amount of coffee/caffeine used by the average middle aged office worker. Certain things I feel like itโ€™s the โ€œritualโ€ I need. The Iron is my Drug. My Bitch. I get High on it. I keep wanting to get that fix like it felt the last time! That Pump! Iโ€™m gonnaโ€™ feel it again or overdose trying!

A lot.

Hey Brother @3xCharm can I sit next to you in class while Brother @HarleyGuy goes through those next couple parts with yaโ€™?

Promise Iโ€™ll just sit here quietly and take notes!
Of course bro and welcome to EVO! @Samson250

Day 64 of Sobriety

Hey EVO Fam,

Long time between posts, I have been sick, havnt been achieving the goals I want, unemployed, serious personal shit happening but I am sober!

(I strongly suggest you read my Reta Journal for some insights in to my sobriety as well)

Life is good sober, Life is not good in general but doing it sober is better, I am down to 84kg (185lbs) even with out any effort at all, just had the flu for a week and not eating properly so I cant complain about that part but obviously I am 3 weeks in to a cycle and wouldve loved to have something to show for it.

Not much more to say at the moment, but I am alive and I am sober

Life is good sober, Life is not good in general but doing it sober is better, I am down to 84kg (185lbs) even with out any effort at all, just had the flu for a week and not eating properly so I cant complain about that part but obviously I am 3 weeks in to a cycle and wouldve loved to have something to show for it.

Not much more to say at the moment, but I am alive and I am sober
Nice journal update brother! Keep opening up and being truthful (cranky if need be) with your sponsor, it's a good way to have an outlet for dealing with life on life's terms while sober. What I'm saying is keep keep using me as your go to when you need to vent because I've been there too :p

Sober is your only job now, the rest are details we can work through and you're holding the line bro. Great work.

Day 64 of Sobriety

Hey EVO Fam,

Hopefully you can get some good rest in to help recover.

The training will be there when you're better.

Just wanted to chime in on this one - sober bro to sober bro!

My journey is much the same as yours - congrats on starting the path to the best person you can be! It can be rough, and trying..... but holding strong is the most important thing. You will find as time passes, the harder times come by less and less. Each day sober is a win.

I have many people ask me how long I have been sober for - its several years, but I honestly don't keep track any more. I found looking back and counting only brought up painful memories of a past, of a person who I no longer identify with. I look forward - each day sober is one day longer than I ever have been. The future is where the glory lies, not the past!

being sober is #1 :D @catdadironman its the best. I used to be a serious alcoholic, ruined my life and my family, love being dry sober so many years now.
