massage therapy

Whats thoughts on massage therapy and muscle growth?

For me Personally, I find it Extremely Helpful.
And yes it can Help Muscle Growth if your Therapist is doing the Correct Manipulation.............................. JP

There are many Types of Massage Therapy.
Some are just for Rejuvenation.
Some are to Break Up Muscle Adhesions.
The Latter can be Extremely Beneficial for Muscle Growth.
 
bro if done right you can lose bodyfat and get muscle mass...it's like breaking down muscle tissues....
 
I was friends at my old gym with a guy whose wife did massage so I was a frequent visitor. I honestly think it hurt me more than helped looking back.. reason being is deep tissue massages tend to tighten up muscles more, so if that is what you are looking for it can backfire on you. I would suggest if you want to relax your muscles to do yoga instead and stretch more. also use heat.. salt baths are excellent with lavender to loosen your muscles before bed.. you can invest in a Jacuzzi and do that before bed

you mention soreness in your 2nd post.. well getting massaged I assure you will not help with soreness. some people believe lactic acid causes soreness and by getting massaged that will flush out the lactic acid.. this is false.. lactic acid is the burning you get during a set in your muscle.. the soreness is caused by micro tearing muscle fibers. only way to help that is to get better conditioned, sleep more and taking certain supps that will speed up recovery.

I did have to take a certain amount of massage classes in school to get my degree. What I was told by my professors is that when the micro tears heal themselves the new fibers don't always lay down in the correct pattern, causing cross fibers which inhibit muscle range of motion as far as stretching and amount they can contract. AND these new fibers are more fibrous than collagen or other stretchy tissue (just like scar tissue isn't as flexible as reg tissue on skin). Massage helps to break this up too. Not to mention the general increased blood flow to distal muscles which aides in healing. The THEORY of myofascial tissue preventing muscle growth also comes into play with myofascial release techniques.

Diff types of massage for different goals and different people. OR Different strokes for different folks I guess you could say.
 
I've never done massage therapy, but it's definitely something I've always been interested in trying. My wife's best friend is a massage therapist and pretty much told us that any massages are on the house since my wife watches her daughter for free every day she works, so I may take her up on that some day

I with you brotha.. It helps tremendously IMO. I get medical massage usually every couple weeks and love it
 
Honestly, if there was a column market "required" for anyone that truly trains hard on a consistent basis, massage would show up... It should be a required aspect of your weekly regimen... We put out bodies through intense abuse on a day to day basis (well those of use who really train hard) and massage is integral. I feel this way about the sauna as well... The saunas rids your body of toxins as a massage does... In the sauna you sweat it out... The massage expels it with the treatment and then you drinking a lot of water to release it... Its all detoxification and the massage helps with muscle repair.. It can also enhance fat burning as well... It has so many necessary benefits... I think my stance is easily understood on massage... =)

i find it to be a god send personally. If you drink a lot of water and replace your electrolytes and stretch after it's a great way to help recovery and growth just like Snakeman said. The increased blood flow and break up of fibers that get stuck together, and especially for us juicers the break down of scar tissue are all great ways to help recovery. Knots and stuck together fibers will decrease blood flow to the effected places. Personally i think it's ideal to do a deep tissue massage on a day off because it can make you sore and will really make you feel groggy. I seem to get really hungry after those as well. Don't forget the happy ending... even if you have to do it your self lmao That helps with cortisol ;)

You could run a solid dose of U.S. Gh for the same amount as 2x massage's per wk.

Moving the blood and lactic acid around by force is good IMHO.
 
My friend is a massage therapist, reiki master and reflexology trainee......I use her for all 3. I don't do deep tissue....but a firm Swedish massage is quite nice. I also think that both reflexology and reiki are highly beneficial. Do some research on them.
 
If you can find someone who is good at ART, Active Release Technique, it is amazing. In just 20 min sessions I've had stubborn knots taken out, had cracking, popping shoulders fixed, and most recently a strained bicep totally relieved. The process hurts like hell, and like all things, some practitioners are better than others.
My ART girl also got me started on foam rolling years ago, which I think has helped me a ton.

I've looked into this and there is legit science behind it, yet I always pass it up while trolling Dick's. How effective do you think it was it in regard to Myofascial Release?

It's great for myofascial release. Hurts like a mutha at first, but I've been told that the more it hurts, the more you need it. They have some crazy rollers out there with bumps and ridges and knobs, but I find the basic flat black roller is best. I got mine from Perform Better online years ago and it still has its shape like new.

Right on. So for a first time roller, you recommend a flat roller? I've only noticed the torture-device variety, thus my lack of enthusiasm.lol

Yeah, I tried to "move up" to one of those torture - device style rollers and wound up with bruises all over my quads...I've got a lot of heart, but that seemed counterproductive.
The flat one is gonna hurt enough, especially if you're new to it. They come in different lengths too. Don't get a tiny one, they're just harder to use.
I dont know if its true of all brands, but the colors are usually different density foams...the black is hard. I'm assuming you're a big guy, so definitely get the black.
