Glad you didn't get injuredMonday
Very nearly done myself an injury. Arguably by being greedy and going off plan gym wise
Hatfield Squat
bar x 12 very quick reps, 140kg x 8 fast reps, 230kg x 8 reps, 300kg x 1 belt only rep, 380kg (I'd originally planned to do 5-8 reps with this vs my previous 4 reps at 380kg some months ago). I then loaded 470kg/1036lbs. I failed. As in coming up about 3-inches and then back down again and everyone around me(3 buddies) trying to help me. My thumbs needed yanking out of the holes in the power rack and the front of the bench I was sitting on with 1000+lbs on my shoulders (lol) was squashing my 'taint' ha ha (thank f**k not my b*lls).
Once my thumbs were out I could move about and get out from under the bar. I then called it a day. Thankfully no proper issues. There is a video![]()

IT problems all week. Don't get me started. The new service is even slower so I'll keep the engineer appt (when the bloody provider deigns to tell me when it is) coming.

Cos I live in the 'valley's' most of the power and phone cables are overhead vs in the ground. And even the fibre, in the ground, comes via a pole to the building. So any half decent wind and or rain blows it about and it can cut out.I've been noticing the internet has been dropping a lot on the past 6 or 7 podcasts. Must be really windy up there in the outter realm right now LOL
Yes you're the connection into your building is just as important as the outdoor line. You are limited by the speed of the lowest quality wire, weakest link in the chair per se.Cos I live in the 'valley's' most of the power and phone cables are overhead vs in the ground. And even the fibre, in the ground, comes via a pole to the building. So any half decent wind and or rain blows it about and it can cut out.
I'm fairly sure I need a better connection via where the wire comes in through my front door (it's copper wire there) to the socket etc. Plus, when you first log on via a new set up you get initial lag. I'll recheck the speed and, if need be, bite the bullet fee wise (I'll bitch lol) and take it in lieu of a fibre connection into the building and a better socket connection. The provider said I'd get 11x my old speed and a quick check earlier showed its was half as fast as the old one. So from crap to really crap lol
Damn BruUrging a gym buddy to pull a PBView attachment 127267
Oh wow.. connections and a telephone wire...that's bad bro. No wonder. Those connections will add resistance to the line further slowing the already snail pace speeds of a twisted pair copper phone wire haha. I thought when you said copper you atleast had some rg6 cable tv wire.I think, apart from recent issues, it's part fibre and part copper from the pole. Then copper only (you can see the strands where we had to rewire it when we installed my steel security doors) through the window above the main door into the property. Then standard phone wire (so still strands of copper) to the decade plus old socket. That was here when I arrived.
Engineer is (I'm waiting on confirmation of the booking) tomorrow or Friday. I think I need a full fibre or part fibre full connection door to nearby office and new broadband only socket. I'm hardwired to the modem/router.
I live in and own what was a former social club so get NO signal from the router in my middle or top floor. Heck I barely get one in the next room lol. That said the router I bought myself MIGHT act (as they suggested) as a 'bridge'. Ideally I'd have hardwired connections to each floor (there's a dumb waiter shaft in one of the old club bars (1 of 3 bars) that goes all the way up) then wifi on each floor. The building is part old stone etc so signal doesn't pass through walls like it would with sheet rock, plasterboard etc.
I've got a guess that the engineer will think I've lived in the stone age compared to most.
What's downloading a pic ha ha.Oh wow.. connections and a telephone wire...that's bad bro. No wonder. Those connections will add resistance to the line further slowing the already snail pace speeds of a twisted pair copper phone wire haha. I thought when you said copper you atleast had some rg6 cable tv wire.
Telephone wire is only capable of 25mbps download speed if I remember right, but your setup sounds even slower than that.
When you click on a picture does it appear slowly in horizontal bars? Only us older guys will get that joke lol
reminds me of when i was a teen using AOL you've got mail dialup. in the USA we would refer to your setup as a hillbilly living in a deep red state. west virginia comes to mind. i'm sure they have the same internets problems there lolCos I live in the 'valley's' most of the power and phone cables are overhead vs in the ground. And even the fibre, in the ground, comes via a pole to the building. So any half decent wind and or rain blows it about and it can cut out.

imagine if the brits had taken over the world, we all would still be using dial up internet. they are really bad at that shit i guess

when the engineer shows up put him in a vice grip and tell him either he fixes your internets or you will squeeze harder and harder or sic the cats on him lol
i think getting this fixed is a good investment. one day you may rent it out or sell it. it will boost your property value to have proper internet. so might as well spend a little money and get it resolved even if you need to hire your own person like BeMe to come in and fix it once and for allIt's been more or less the same since I moved in. In fact you're NOT liking it might be kinda the point. It gets you annoyed. Which might be just enough to get you to break a personal record.
It's not like anyone would want this in any normal situation. Like at the supermarket lol
Well there's always the power rack.i would still get upset. i don't like people near me. keep atleast 6 foot distance even if you spot me. no telling what kind of disease you might have plus people smell
yeah i generally don't need a spotter anyway. i am very independent mindedWell there's always the power rack.

I would rather the weight fall on me and break my neck then ask for a spotter. that is very beta to do .. i'm an alphaIt's all on us to do the work 100%
I've never relied on a training partner etc. With the odd exception (320kg bench and the 1000+lbs squats) I don't need a spotter. However, if I want all I need to do is ask.
I've said many times here and on the podcast anyone that needs to say it isn't. It should be obvious to others if you are an A type personality - if only by vibe. True A types don't go around saying it they just are.I would rather the weight fall on me and break my neck then ask for a spotter. that is very beta to do .. i'm an alpha

I assure you if we ever met you would bow down to me. I am a true alpha in every sense of the word. of course i will say it proudlyI've said many times here and on the podcast anyone that needs to say it isn't. It should be obvious to others if you are an A type personality - if only by vibe. True A types don't go around saying it they just are.
If, as you say, you'd rather fail and get hurt that's fine. If, and it's obviously unlikely (5000 miles away being one reason) it every happened I'd be sure to remember you didn't want help and let you be. I would argue that you MIGHT (it's not a given) lose out training wise. There are several training techniques (forced reps being one) where you MUST have help. That and others mean those using them push harder into growth and strength. Look at the real biggest and strongest men ever - even what we might call the most alpha - and see if they don't get an assist to help them be better. Even BM talks about ganging up to take down a 'big dog' (prison talk). And, of course, here you are on a group forum getting support, if only by being encouraged on your journey, vs not being here.
Plus there's no actual 'alpha' science thing. It came from a study on wolves. With what was initially thought of as a pack leader (aka 'the alpha dog' idea) was false. For a start they took turns leading the pack and even so-called pack leaders ensured the old, weak and so on were in the pack. The pack only moved as quickly as the slowest. They DO have a dominance thing regarding who got to eat the first share of a meal.
For years here we'd have the 'I'm well 'ard (hard) me' mob. And yes they could be a bit naughty. Then, as I'm sure we all have, we meet someone who makes no noise about it at all, who is a properly full blown ass kicking boss. Usually quite, respectful, never brags, rarely has tatts and big muscle (that's me fucked lol) but wold bury us both and go to the shops after.
In reality, and I'd echo SOME things you've said here, in other posts and in logs etc as being as true of me as they are of you. I live alone (plus pets), I'm not married (although I am in a relationship). I could do a LOT better in terms of my family relationships (but a lot can say that). I'm the eldest of what was (2 died) 4 boys and so am used to being the leader type. In almost every job I've had, esp if the sh&t hit the fan I was 'that guy'. Equally, as someone over 60, I think of myself as too fkin old to worry too much what others think about me for the most part. Why would I? They don't pay my bills, cook my food, lift my weights and so on. So why fret
I've also said on the shows, and here I think you'd be good to go too, it's YOU that does the gym work. YOU that puts that food in your mouth. YOU that gets to the gym again and again. Not that guy, not his mum, not with excuses, but YOU. Working your ass off to do the sh&t you love every damned day.
What we do here is share that love. Often more here than when at the gym. I'm a little bit of both. When I'm actually under the bar it's ALL ME. I don't hear the music, notice who's looking, forget stresses and life sh*t and just grind. But between... need a spot? Ask. What me to use 'that voice' (like a drill Sgt) to get you an extra rep or a PB? Ask. I've bitched, as many do, about something missing from a gym and then gone and spent my own cash to add it to the gym for all, inc me, to benefit from. Cos I can and want to
