gummy bears post workout???

Whats your opinion on gummy bears right after a workout????What do you guys use???
Gummy bears are made out of glucose that perfect after training its a fast absorbing carb.

Why should I use some expensive powder, when I can use some cheap tasty gummy bears???
I have enough supplements already I don't wanna have a supplement for everything.

1 hour after that gummy bear/protein shake/creatin meal I will eat some good food like sweet potato and fish.
That should work right???

I feel like I'm in twilight zone today. ....I don't suggest this. You don't need a "supplement"....I'd rather see you put some grinded oats in your post workout shake and drink it right away. ...followed by some"real" food a little later on.

Sugar... naturally occurring sugar....an apple, blueberries.....not sugar manufactured in a factory.

again - glad you made it the board here aggirl! Listen to what she is saying and save your self the heartache of eating trashy while training.

Not sure which Brand of Gummy Bears you're talking about.
"Haribo Brand" uses Corn Syrup/Sugar/Dextrose/Gelatin/ plus Extracts/Flavors'/Colors and a little Citric Acid.
I took this off their Company Website.

I don't know about you, but I don't want All this Crap in my Body Post-Workout............................... JP
P.S.
There are plenty of Better Sources for Post-Workout Carbs.

Not the best food choice, but you can yes. Flexible dieting and IIFYM is a very real tactic that works. It doesn't necessarily have to always be oats, rice, or sweet potatoes

if you are an ectomorph who has a hard time gaining weight a great idea post workout is a hefty meal of lets say steak/rice/broccoli.. something like that.

the whole restoring glycogen thing is misunderstood. as long as you eat correctly throughout the day you will be fine. now if you starve yourself the whole day, then try to workout and have no energy then you probably need to carb up to get your blood sugar up so you have energy.

these ridiculous theories of eating a bunch of sugar post workout might seem like a good idea, but you are foolish to think that doing it will result in bigger muscles.. more like putting on globs of body fat will occur.

I can recall Jay Cutler talking about eating a bunch of candy and stuff post workout. Personally, I do currently use a karbolyn product, but honestly it's out of ease and the fact I am a pinch sick to my stomach after say legs or back (shake goes down quick and easy). I have, as John Meadows suggests, used some nice sticky white rice post with some ground turkey or super lean chicken for a whole food post WO meal. If I am gonna eat some candy or want a small bite of my chick's ice cream, I find it easier to justify it post workout becase of the insulin senitivity/glut4 receptor effect/nutrient partioning. I wouldn't try to make a habbit or certainly use some garbage as a training staple. I appreciate the limit on supplements, but as others have said, there are better, healthier options. Why not gt some simple carbs with the added benefit of vitamins/minierals, etc.? Good luck dude

Jim Stoppani recommends Gummy Bears immediately after workout for the glycogen. He seams to do his research. I think it to stop the body from breaking down muscle until the post workout protein shake can kick in. He only recommends like 6-10 right after leaving the gym. I have been in a calorie deficit for quite a few months and it does seem to restore so energy to go to work right after my workout. I work out from 5:30 - 7:30 and have trouble with energy at work....

Everyone has their own theory of what works and doesnt work. I watched a george farrah seminar and someone asked him a question about what to eat after a workout to stop catabolism. He said that people worry too much about this. That your not gonna immediately shrivel up and lose all ur gains. He said drink ur post workout hydrolyzed shake and when u get home eat a good meal of protein and carbs. If ur eating a good daily diet you will have plenty of nutrition and half an hour or hr isnt gonna make a difference.

Is it a good idea?.... Probably not
Will it help you gain lean muscle?... Probably not

But does it feel good??? You're damn right hahaha. Not gonna lie, gummy bears are my achilles heel. I occasionally eat some post workout... Just as some positive reinforcement. :D

This is absolutely true. It is a common misconception that you must quickly replenish glycogen post workout. It's completely unnecessary as long as you get in a good post workout meal within an hour or two. Not a big deal. Then hit your total required carb and protein intake for the day

yes your muscles wont shrink up post workout but if you are an ECTO struggling to gain weight its a great time to shuttle in nutrients during this window. (really any time is a great time you should be eating eating and eating) and I am NOT a believer in the whole supplement thing .. yes guys like farah will tell you that but that is because he trains guys on insulin!! so of course he will say to down a shake right away. when you are on insulin its a whole nother ballgame.. but for the normal joe stick to the ABC's and eat real food.. I know the IIFYM guys will hate me for this but FOOD > supplements. I have always said this and I will always say this.

dealing with a pro on slin and HGH vs. a normal joe who might be on some roids is 2 different things.. like comparing someone who drives a Lamborghini with someone who drives a ford

This is exactly what I believe. I haven't had a post workout shake in over years, I go home and eat and I'm doing just fine..

That magic window is definitely overhyped by supp companies selling fast digesting protein. It does have its place but it's not an end of the world I need 75g of whey right now type of thing :)

Yeah if your eating whole food meals every 2-3 hours you stay stocked on protein all day, making special intakes during these 'windows' unnecessary.
Concerning simple sugars post workout, what Farah was saying is it kills your GH level when it's naturally highest. Is this true? I'm leery, as he immediately plugged a product he created to use instead.

It's funny you mention gummy bears because I had recently read an article on post work out carbs via Wonka Pixy Stix here is some copy and paste from a similar article.

Wonka Pixy Stix and Wonka Sweet Tarts. Most candy companies use sugar (which is half glucose and half fructose), or high fructose corn syrup, which has even more fructose. Yet Wonka Pixy Stix are pure dextrose (glucose) and Sweet Tarts are made with just dextrose and maltodextrin (which is simply a chain of glucose molecules attached together.

I eat poptarts, or reduced fat oreos, protein. 1 hr later a real meal. Works great for me. It will depend on a lot of things mostly how you react to carbs. I react really well to carbs. I went keto for a while and just got fat and weak. I switched to carb heavy diet. Became unfat and less weak pretty quickly.

...reproduction fast cuz their splits and ultimately their goals... Glycogen is stored energy...as long as it is replenished by the next workout or activity normal Joe's would be fine with food.

You sure some gummy bears don't have high fructose corn syrup? Cause I'm willing to bet most are if not organic. That being said I would get organic gummies. I buy them for my kids and they taste great.

thanks for all the information.
Im an endomorph and Im dieting down.
Would it be better to eat no carbs right after workout and only drink a protein shake and than eat real carbs like sweet potatoe with meat 1hour after my protein shake??
I wanna burn fat as much as possible.

You just need to get your diet in check. Weigh your food out. And be serious about what your eat. Honestly that anabolic window is all bro science. If it benefits you mentally to eat your carbs after then great. You body will replenish what it needs to as you feed it. If anything pre/intra would be of greater concern to fuel whatever it is you do for workouts.

And poptarts gummy bears and doughnuts are good so I eat them. Could I be leaner if I didn't. Maybe. But right now I don't care.

A big bag of maltodextin costs fuck all. I use that as my intra workout and have blended oats and protein post workout. The difference between real food and shit food makes a massive difference to your body and how you look.

Gummy bears have a decent amount of protein.. They must be good for you

I agree bro because I'm hungry as hell after I workout and some gummy bears and going to cut it

As prior folks referenced, Dr. Stoppani likes dextrose immediately post workout to help replenish glycogen, spike insulin, and help shuttle your protein, creatine, and amino acids to your muscles ASAP. You can eat when you get home, but I don't have that kind of free time myself. I drink all of the above within 30 minutes of my workout ending. You're on the right track with focusing on nutrition. Better to be nazi-like than sloppy. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and money.

IF you are looking to burn as much fat as possible, i wouldnt be looking to spike sugar intake with gummy bears

If you're talking about your "anabolic window," you want fast digesting dextrose (i.e. pure dextrose powder; some candies) , not fructose (sugar from fruit), waxy maize, or maltodextrin which are all too slow digesting/gastric emptying to accomplish that. A bag of dextrose is like $5 on bb.com. No BS in it like preservatives, colors, etc people are concerned with.

If u tryin to burn as much cals as possible look at fasted workouts. I also just read an article on that on md that suggested u can raise muscle building on a fasted workout. Wether or not it works i have no idea but a little research may show it could work for u.

I can't tell if this guy is serious or not... My first thought was "Surely this guy is trolling..."

If you're serious bro, the answer is no. Gummy bears have a bunch of sh*t that you don't want in your system. Like aggirl said, stick with oatmeal and the like, and maybe throw in some fruit like blueberries or bananas. In general, I try and stay away from any food that's man made.
