Veteran Log Mobsters Training Diary

To be fair I've been training/lifting DECADES. As I've told the younger lads I'm at that point that you'd have to ask what the f&&k I've been doing if I'm not strong by now. And I'll often take months (like 3 - 9) to get to crazy levels on one lift. My Inch and Millennium dumbbell lifts took 12 months each.

Also it's a mental shift. Like I said above I look at kit and think 'what if it broke... f**k it who cares' or 'I can another plate on there' lol. I SHOULD be 'look at what I did' but I might get old n sh*t real soon so I NEED to keep pushing until I can't. So 59 in August and I wanna 140+kg (308lbs) bench when I hit 60

That’s the spirit 💪 keep pushing the boundaries. You know something when I used to run I honestly thought my limit was 5 miles. This one day I just said fxxk it and just kept on going. I never thought 12 miles was inside of this man. It really taught me sometimes our limits can be mental.

Well done brother

We NEVER know our limits unless we explore them

I don't think you could fit another plate on that bar without it falling off! Crazy weight mobster.

In my local gym I've had to use resistance bands to hold weights on lol

Yes sir 💪 I’ve listened to quite a few of them. I especially like the dynamic between mobster and stevesmi

It should feel like two sports commentators. We have a feel for when we killed it

I won't be running any marathons but I try to get 6000 steps a day and ensure I get out of breath now and again. My heart rate is always good as is my BP (both in range)

635kg leg press! and 500kg power squat, Mobster is killing it fully!

Only one issue. Anytime (worth noting for others planning on putting big numbers up) I squat BIG numbers such as 500kg/1100lbs on the Power Squat machine parts of my back ache. Not, surprisingly enough, my lower back but my lats. This is because you have to have EVERYTHING tight and contracted just to stay stable and tight under load

How long does it take you to warm up, to push the big numbers

How long does it take you to warm up, to push the big numbers

I did a little stretching yesterday. Today I marched over the shops pre gym - about 2000 steps real quick. So that helped. Then, by way of example, on the Lever Squat I did 10 or so reps with the lever arm. Then 100kg/220lbs x 8, 200kg/440lbs x 8 and then 300kg/660lbs x 8. Kirk arrived then. If he had been here and we swapped places it'd have been longer but it was about 20 minutes start to finish.

I walked into the same bar twice in the same week and bled both times all over. Think I would learn after the first time.
Awesome lifts as always Mob!!!! Keep it up. I'm in a holding pattern on getting back to heavy lifting as my shoulder is inflamed again. Think I got a little too confident too fast coming off my cut.

Enough of the covid already

I just found the podcast last night and can't put phone down i'm listening to everything. It is by far best educational podcast out there. Is this the guy that does show with Steve? Sorry if dumb question I'm just still trying to figure out who everyone is
Thank you Darin

Friday
@ Powerhouse gym. A horrid snotty / throat thing last night meant sleep could have been a LOT better. The extra bodyweight doesn't help either. So...

Iso Mid Row
It was meant to be thick bar deadlifts but I want that big bench more so a pump in my upper back took priority
to 100kg x 6 reps (easy once I got going)

s/s

Close Grip Bench Press
Usual broomstick warm up. The faster I move the better the bench will be. Speed = power.
Then 60kg x 8 reps fast, 80kg x 6 reps fast, 120kg x 1 rep (paused and feet up), 140kg x 1 rep, 160kg x 1 rep. All done with no spot as I was starting to feel ok now. 170kg x 1 rep. This was kinda screwy. I came up so quick it went out of the groove but I pulled it back and then preceded to try and bench the bench itself as I was pushing against the J-hook. So I lowered it a fraction and then racked it. It actually made me confident if I could recover from a mishap and still complete the lift.

Then I took my time. I have sleeves on for all lifts above 120kg and made sure to wear a tight supportive top (actually a work top from Lidls). I also wear a support belt too. 180k/396lbs flew up. So what the h88k... might as well try more right? A few more minutes and 185kg went up to. Now when you think it's been close to, if not actually, 14 years, since I did 180kg and my all time best was 190kg I'd say it all worked out ok right ;)
