Multi-talented me lol. Yep ALL those nature pics are mine. The Otter pics ended up being used by the BBC and ITV here as a part of a local news item for a local community project I help with. Often as not I'll take my camera (Nikon Coolpix P1000) when I get my steps. Deffo if I go anywhere else. On the training stuff buddies and myself was taking training pics before Insta was a thing so we kinda got ok at it. I can get 10 likes and be at the top hashtag of the clothing brand I rep for easy lol

Some cool sh*t on your page too. I had, and ought to get another, Cold Steel Tanto at one point.
You guys have pretty stuff knife laws over in the UK, right? And that’s great about those nature photos. Really cool stuff man! I have a nice camera that someone left here, a couple years ago, but I don’t know how to use it.

We can collect etc but I wouldn't walk about with a knife on me

@Ori yes, social media is mind poison and so much negative discussion, I stay on forums, they are much more personal for me. :)

I like the low volume. I think as we get older we can get away with training less and continue to get stronger and put on quality muscle.

There's an argument to be made for intensity vs volume
IMO the intensity is most effective as long as your body can handle the abuse. I think when you get injured and beat up then its time to go with higher volume less weight. IMO I think a good middle ground is the slow reps with medium high weight. I like to switch things up as I believe you need to keep the body guessing to trick it into growth.

Possibly. As often as not it's mental. But I do rotate exercises if only to keep numbers going up without burnout. But not so much for strength. Size for me is a bonus.

Monday
Fancied a change and also by going I put pressure on myself to get sh*t done so off to Powerhouse for legs. Trained solo (Kirk D et al trained on other stuff). Started Var Saturday (for Bench power)
Hatfield Squats
100kg x 8, 200kg x 6 and 320kg/704lbs x 4

320 kg hatfield squat.webp

Leg Press
(no pad cos...)
to 680kg x 8 (easy)

Lying leg Curls
to 14p x 8

Leg Extensions
to stack x 8

Bwt: 328lbs

Based on the fact that it'll take two leg session rotations I wanna be doing 1 rep with 800lbs on the Hatfield Squat 6 weeks today. I maxed Powerhouse Safety Squat bar as it's rated to 320kg and I repped that today. Mine is rated to 350kg but I might risk the 365kg as it's MY bar not someone else's lol.

Something else - 700+lbs hurts your neck ha ha - pad or no pad.

Bench Press I wanna do 4 x 1 x 190kg/418lbs this coming Friday. 192.5kg x 4 x 1 next week and then either 195kg x 4 x 1 the Friday after or an attempt then at the 200kg or doing the 200kg/440lbs the following Friday.

Press will go up tomorrow to 112.5kg/247.5lbs for reps. My very best is 120kg/264lbs x 4. That'll take a while to get to.

wow, how much weight is that? looks like a boatload of weight

Awesome picture and great job as usual. I love the hood up look. I rock that in the gym too. To me, it helps me block out everything going on around me. Love the increased focus.

@Mobster would be nice to see a picture of this powerhouse session

there is nobody overall strong like this guy wow

you won't go wrong following mobsters training advice

nice update for sure you are the absolute champ

From Friday's workout (I don't take photos every time I train but I'm writing an e-book on this lift so...). Picking up that 160kg+ (handle, clip and pin are about 3kg) so about 360lbs on a 60mm thick handle (about 2 and 3/8ths of an inch thick)

easy 160.webp

those are some big boy weights!
Best bench session to date. 2007/8 it was 180kg x 4 x 1. 11 weeks ago it was 185kg x 4 x 12. Friday... 190kg x 4 x 1 (and easier than some weeks back) and I'll almost certainly do 1 (poss 2) more session (192.5?? x 4 x 1) before hitting the 200kg/440lbs attempt again. Indeed if I can do 2 instead of one I'll be that little bit more head of the target.

IE: I MIGHT have 197.5kg... MAYBE 200kg in me right now based on 4 x 1 x 190kg and using previous efforts as a reference. I am, after all, 5kg ahead of previous marks for multiple singles.

So any additional sessions make me move further into where I wanna be. I'm just, as of today, into week 2 of the 50mg a day EP Var

keep it coming bro

Proof that us old guys can keep on getting stronger as we age. We’re giving the younger lads on here a run for their money.
Yall will both be strong for a long time 💪

Strongest dudes at every gym I’ve been at has been in their 50s
years of training is definitely an advantage
Key though is staying healthy And not letting things in life get in your way. Mobster has been consistent for years
It’s a lifestyle not a hobby for him

Yep. I've had to resist training this week cos I'm worn out sickness wise. Even when I was laid up with the back injury in 2016 I still squeezed my grippers

Age wise, apart from Kirk, all my training buddies are 40+

On the age and strength thing; I've spoken about the difference between those who exercise and those who don't. Age wise the average non training man hit's peak strength around age 35. Which is also when we hit our strides career wise. Those who train can add at least 10 years to that - so 45. Arguably training keeps us young too (although I'm feeling my age today lol)
