Veteran Log Mobsters Training Diary

Vid on Insta came with a comment from a cross-fitter / functional strength coach asking why I don't use a greater ROM. The irony... I go look at them doing one legged squats and muscle ups ha ha. So I've asked what the benefit of me doing 'better' would be. Batting at back at them ;)

Crossfitters pull ups for are a laugh. There throwing there bodies up at the bar. No wonder why so many serious injuries from that sport

Exactly. Here I am with the tiniest DOM in my lower back on day 3 and the fella asking literally makes a living teaching mobility

Your training for a perifict purpose, in that movement. They don't have a clue

Cheers guys. It also turns out the bar is 5-6kg heavier than I thought. A member, Ken, said it was 25 and not 20 so on Tuesday I weighed it. I've rounded that down to 5kg/11lbs

Meaning my previous 1RM of 460kg was 465kg or 1023lbs. It also means Monday's 385kg was 390kg or 858lbs for 4 reps. Of course not all the weights are calibrated and or competition spec... so who knows. When I last maxed out I did use ALL the comp spec 20's (240kg total)

Thursday
Took my time. 'Heavy' arm day
Hammer Dumbbell Curls
1 arm at a time. 10kg x 20, 30kg x 8, 50kg x 8, 70kg x 8 and 90kg/198lbs x 9

s/s

Skull Crushers
bar x 20, 29kg x 8, 59kg x 8 and 84kg/185lbs x 8

Dumbbell Wrist Curls
10kg x 20, 25kg x 8, 37.5kg x 8 then LH: 42.5kg/93.5lbs x 8 and RH: 50kg/110lbs x 8
Back to my, if only right handed for now, old PB

Mobster!! A 90kg single arm DB curl, that is the equivalent of a full grown man
Holy shit!!

Best on this is 14 reps. I've done a tad over 100kg/220lbs but that even more ugly than the 90's lol

I love checking in here to see The Hulk standard!

Meaning my previous 1RM of 460kg was 465kg or 1023lbs.
Oh so thankfully and unquestionably over half a ton. Before that I thought it was weak :ROFLMAO:, but now, ok good. Half ton check โœ… :ROFLMAO::p:cool:

Haaha the HULK Standard!!! Lets fucking go!!
@Mobster you are a motivating force!!

Friday
Note to self. Read your f**n log book (see below) **
Close Grip Bench Press
to 175kg/385lbs x 5 x 2.
Ideally it should have been 5 x 3 but I wasn't feeling it so...

Mid-Iso Row
too **LH: 110kg/242lbs x 4 and RH: 130kg/286lbs x 4.
Now I said the RH felt heavier... well d'uh and not only that my book had me doing 115kg. Slap upside my head lol

Today I was considering my attempt last year where I bombed and sat in the hole as it was stripped with what I now know was 475kg. So close to half a metric ton too haha

And look at you now!

Funny thing with your strength and you're down in the hole who the hell can you look around and say 'hey, y'wanna give me a hand here?'... he'd need to go get 5 other guys to have 3 per side to get you back up LOL

Monday
Beast mode pushed into the red. By the end it was more tiring to load and unload (+ it's a 1000 steps) the squat and leg press
Hatfield Squats
w/up with bar x 12, 185kg x 8, 285kg/627lbs x 6 (could have done 8 no probs), 400kg/880lbs x 4 (PB for weight and reps), Vid done (pic to be added) for Insta

Leg Press
305kg x 8, 505kg x 8, 770kg/1694lbs x 8

Lying Leg Curls
8p x 8, 18px 5 r/p

s/s

Leg Extensions
stack x 8 (both legs), stack (200lbs) x 4 (1 leg at a time)

1-2 weeks left of my current @PSL sus/deca cycle

400kg or 880lbs

What a great pic! This is more than Colemanโ€™s 2-rep video boasting that he coulda done 3.
Thanks. The mind-set is all important. Even Ronnie's wishing he'd gone for more says it all.

Now do I go for a 1RM (say that bombed 470kg/1034) or add more for reps (say 405 or 410 (approx 902lbs)?

As I said a few days ago I've half a mind in terms of visualization around the thought of 500kg/1100lbs x 1

I'm that old I shouldn't be doing this at at the same time here I am. Keeping going until I can't.

@Mobster this is motivating. Not gonna lie. Absolutely love this and seeing how strong you are reminds me how me, and maybe other people, can limit what we thinks possible and not push enough.
Cheers.

Many of us DO limit what we do.

By way of example there's some stupid irony of being embarrassed to go for it and or because of being seen to fail when many go to the gym. True balls out training isn't Insta pretty. Heck, many hate to be seen to sweat or even grimace. The young bucks flexing their 12-inch arms balance it out a bit lol.

I'm torn LOL. If 500kg would be a PB at 60+ yrs old for you (or otherwise) I say do it one time but other than that I think it's equally, if not arguably more, brag material if you can say you do reps with 900+lbs. I can't believe I'm giving advice on these weights my God. I'm out of my league here. LOL

It's all good either way... evil cackle... do both!!

Also 61 now lol

My sick twisted way of saying yes do both bahahaha.

Yes I knew 61, last podcast you mentioned it. It made me proud to hear 61 because I brag about you to my two sons when they say how long are you going to do this for Dad? So I explain you and they said "oh is that the English guy?" (they've listened to my podcasts) and I said "he's a UK beast not some 'English guy'" LOL.

I'm half... how da fuck and half... don't question it lol

Close Grip Bench Press
to 180kg/396lbs x 4 x1

s/s

Low Lever Iso Row
to 140kg/308lbs x 8 reps (1 arm at a time)
I listened this morning, you mentioned doing several shows. Busy busy guy!!

It's as much them as well as training, house stuff and nipping out between to grab my daily steps. One issue with the shows (comes with the job lol) is @stevesmi is 5 hours behind me and many guests are already into the next day. We did one where I was at 7pm, @stevesmi at 2pm and the guest 3am!

On the training I wanna take my time, go at my usual pace (esp when getting crazy heavy) so needs must. Up at 5am, gym at 8am and so on. We've members here who workout at 3.30am!

I love that @Mobster you definitely take advantage of the time you have and your days are full!! I remember that you like to say โ€œThe blokes that get their training sorted earlyโ€ get the hardest part of their day done and the rest is easier!! You definitely fill in your 24 hours well!!

Monday
Prepped to do one thing and one thing only. But what of my options was it gonna be. Once at the gym it ended up being 900 (actually more) for reps
Hatfield Squat
w/up, 185kg x 8, 265kg x 6, 365kg / 803) x 1 (PB with no wraps), 415kg/ 915lbs x 2

And that's all she wrote

@Mobster I can see why you need a fan. That is some big time heavy weight and I'm sure it wears you out when you do it.

That SSb has a pretty serious bend to it. That's a shit load of weight!

Mobster... ok for real... I'm literally (I won't say 'afraid' but) hesitant to come get caught up on your log LOL... your strength and lifts scare me!! LMAO. I don't even have the experience to know what that weighs. I know what "3 plates" is here but 6 f--king plates my GOD! I can't look away from this pic LOL... great forearms too by the way and that looks like a gym Yates would work out in!

It wasn't on. It's cold here and the heater is on the other side of the gym

It's 9. And closer to the eqv of 10 x 10kg plates.

It's as much a head space thing as it is a how it feels on the body thing. We both know from experience that humans can do epic stuff. The trick is thinking you can. I, for one, can't get my head round the idea of base jumping or climbing a sheer rock face etc

Doesnโ€™t take long to warm up when youโ€™re doing that kind of weight

Bros, you are a strong mofo for sure that bar bends like crazy and you make it look easy! I bet you can do more weight than that as well. @Mobster

Tuesday
I feel like I tweaked my right shoulder squatting yesterday. It didn't help that I fell as* over t*t near the gym on that same shoulder.

Seated Press

Rear Delt Machine Work
to stack +pin+6.25kg x 6

Reverse Dumbbell Wrist Curls

I have done. 460kg or about 1014lbs x 1 and I failed with 470kg / 1034lbs and had to sit on that bench while the guys took the weights off as I couldn't bail

On that squat yesterday. Prep includes, as always, what I eat the night before (ideally a nice steak) and then oatmeal for breakfast. I had a double ristretto (stronger than an espresso). I also took a painkiller, 10mg of Var (@PSL )and 500mcg (both sublingual) cheque drops (Nordic)

@Mobster that's some big weight right there, Mobster. Keep it up. I like how you have good form on that. Those box squats are not easy at all.

6 skinny comp spec blue 20kg and 3 fatter 25kg black. It's easier to see them on my insta.

I should have had my buddy use my phone. Better camera

You are a squatting machine for sure. That's some big size that you're able to do. You're able to lift a car. That's how strong you are. @Mobster

I ought to use my own SSB which is rated higher but I like this one
Yea the tubing on that one looks a little thin for the type of work you're doing. That thing might just fold one day and become one with you. Now that would be an epic picture!

You should checkout some videos where guys do that. Its pretty bad ass, as long as the bar doesn't break. I saw one video where the guy was squatting and the bar basically became a U shape and he just stood there like wtf shaking his head lol. Anyone who can do that is a certified weapon
