Awesome food choices
Nice! I love stew. My wife doesn't eat beef so last weekend I did a garlic/fennel pork shoulder with potato's, carrots, onions, mushrooms and cabbage. Was delicious and super clean. As the colder weather sets in i'll prob start doing this weekly.with the change in season i decided to put together a stew dish. this cost $50 and its all organic and quality ingredients and will last many days
it is stew beef, carrots, celery, zucchini, and potatoes.. with 3-4 lemons added too.
a feast fit for a king
Hey guys I am finally back in the gym after my small surgery. Today was a pull split
woke up super early and did about an hour of cardio
started out with warm up of the shoulders
then did 4 sets of pullups X 10-12 slow and to failure and switched up grips on each set
then did rows
then it was off to straight bar and EZ curls
Worked the pulleys and ropes too to get a nice bicep pump (yeah i overtrained them its been a while)
finished the workout with stretching
also i now have even more mouths to feed. see video. i'm no bunny expert but these guys just showed up today at my place and i fed them some lettuce. seems like they are domesticated rabbits running around my neighborhood that someone dumped or they escaped. they are hilarious hopping around and the cats seem to be annoyed by them and confused. i'm gonna go buy some rabbit food today in case they come back
@stevesmi new pets I love themworkout yesterday was legs.
cardio 1-2 hours low intensity
then more cardio as a warmup before legs
standing lunges
leg extensions
calves
stretching
today was high intensity 45 minutes core training.
with the change in season i decided to put together a stew dish ahead of my fall prolong fast which will begin end of this month and likely be around a week. also i have seen several logs on here where guys/gals are putting together stews and that motivated me to do it too!
all these ingredients cost $50 and its all organic and quality ingredients and will last many days
notice the broth I am using. it is free of any sort of aggravating high fodmap ingredients. no onions, no garlic. it also has no caramel color, sugar, or any other additives. this is the ONLY broth i trust. you can buy it from whole foods or amazon. it is essential you use the right broth or the entire recipe is ruined if we are following fasting and low FODMAP dieting. the other option is you can make your own broth as i have done earlier in the log
it is stew beef, carrots, celery, zucchini, and potatoes.. with 3-4 lemons added too.
total prep time was under 30 minutes and that includes boiling the broth before transfer and cutting up the veggies
total cook time on high will be 6 hours.

good training day , you on umbrella cardarine right? @stevesmiyesterday was a very fun leg day.
did cardio for an hour midday
then did more cardio at the gym just to warm up in the evening. all the squat racks were hogged up but its all good. i did box squats using a bench and dumbbells. did 100lb dumbell in my hands and squats, i don't need no squat rack to wreck myself
then i hit leg extensions, glute extension machine, calves, then did 30 minutes of yoga/stretching.
these sarms from umbrella are the real deal. i don't even feel winded from my workouts at all and i'm like the enegizer bunny!
food for today, fasting 20 hours then made a shoulder steak thin on the BBQ along with zucchini, also sliced up some potatoes with my slicer gadget (cut my finger in the process be careful using those) then put in air fryer for 35-40 minutes. only added coconut oil, salt/pepper. great meal ! also ate a pomegranate .. this is the season for those best fruit on earth!
today midday cardio for an hour, then tomorrow i have to go back to the doctor to see if i can remove my 2nd cyst which is much smaller or if they will drain it instead. i'm going to the best doctor in town for this as i don't want to risk infection or any type of scarring. very important you always go to the best of the best... best accountant, best doctor, best dentist, best mechanic, best everything.. pay more for quality just like your gear! its gonna cost me about 3K to have this one removed since it is so small but inflamed. sucks but it needs to go at some point
that looks serious, damnHere is the pic of the 2nd cyst removal.
I have to take both oral and cream antibiotics to prevent infection for 1 week. i will still train but they said not over the weekend.. so next week. But I’m glad I got it done. Will be all in after I am fully recovered to have a kickass winter. this is the last cyst i have to deal with hopefully for a long time.
i could feel the discharge going down my back as they were draining it.
Damn dude. Here is the pic of the 2nd cyst removal.

@stevesmi day 2 of fast, nice, are you doing electrolytes man?its day 2 of my fast. I'm going to take this one day to day
got up today THIRSTY. when you get into a deep ketosis during a fast 2 things happen
1. your body expels more then it takes in
2. you aren't consuming liquids from food (a lot of food contains water too)
so its a contant drink and pee thing. so if you prolong fast keep that in mind, learn to piss in a bottle (i carry one in the car with me) .. every time you pee you need to drink the hydration back.
also my bowel movements are light.. i expect my bowels to shut off in the next day or so pretty much. but the fact i still have bowel movements proves how beneficial fasting is to get rid of the excess junk and toxins in the body
as far as my surgery, my back is getting better. its been itchy the past 2 days which means its healing good. i stopped oral anti biotics but am still applying the ointment to my back. doctor says will be 4-6 weeks for it to fully heal but i can start lifting again soon. i plan on going friday if all goes well
i haven't need any salt yet. the only electrolytes i mess with are salt and cream of tartar but i been good so far.@stevesmi day 2 of fast, nice, are you doing electrolytes man?
gotta add magnesium and a few other minerals there mani haven't need any salt yet. the only electrolytes i mess with are salt and cream of tartar but i been good so far.
really helps that it is cooling down where i'm at, but today i did some gardening and sweat a bit which isn't good. i made sure to hydrate A LOT after
these electrolyte supplements i see out there 99% of them are full of additives so you gotta be careful with them. i make my own electrolyte mix with salt and cream of tartar (potassium).gotta add magnesium and a few other minerals there man![]()
still not in deep ketosis but you getting therePlease read my prior posts as well.
this was my 3rd piss in the past hour so my ketones probably are a bit lower.. i will make sure tomorrow i do it on my first piss and we should see ketones much higher.
hydration is #2 with fasting but electrolytes are #1let me get more in depth when it comes to fasting and hydration.
30% or of your fluid needs come from food. and its not just things that are water rich like fruits or veggies. even things like rice absorb water and things like beef are mostly made up of water. so when you are not eating food you automatically are behind the 8 ball with your hydration
first day or two of the fast you burn away your glycogen. you will know when this happens in a lot of ways but pissing on a ketone strip will confirm you are deep into ketosis. but before this happens you are releasing water into your bloodstream. once the glycogen runs out your body doesn't have that stored up carbs and water anymore so that is when dehydration really starts to happen.
things like sweating, exercising or anything else will require you to drink more. obviously this is why i don't like to fast during the summer when its hot, it becomes impossible to hydrate properly. signs of dehydration could be things like headache, high bp, etc. one time i went to the beach and got really burned then the next day started my fast.. bad idea! ended up having a headache for days and had to stop my fast early.
now what happens once you reach ketosis as I am now and in a deep stage?
your body starts spitting out fat cells quickly and expelling them, the main way it can be done is urination and since there are no sugar to burn through it will attack fat and produces those ketones (again you can buy ketone strips)
you also enter autophagy so now your body will start to produce more urine to flush out toxins. so you are expelling and recycling cells. again, urine is gonna be the best way for the body to accomplish this. you also will notice you stink while fasting, as in your arm pits cause that is another way. also your mouth will have bad breath in a lot of cases as this is another way. so save your dating life till you are done fasting lol.
your muscles will look flatter during this time which is normal. and your stomach will flatten up bigtime due to the lack of water in the cells.
prolong fasting can be stressful and tough when it comes to hydration, as i wake up extremely dehydrated and my heart rate is elevated. but this stress you put on your body will make your body stronger.
@stevesmi the day sounded good but I think the ketone strips arent showing the full ketogenic state, because you're in medium ketosis on the strips, are you doing magnesium daily?Day 4 of fast
Getting harder to get in hours at night. Your body needs less sleep when fasting as it is using less energy. so getting my usual 7-8 hours becomes harder. i pretty much wake up and lay in bed trying to go back to sleep.
so i got up twice last night. once at 11:30 and once at 4am. peed and drank both times.
when i got up the first time i was having pain coming out of my anus, felt like i wanted to go to the bathroom but couldn't. sound nasty but i am being honest about my experiences. so i sat on the toilet and let out some gas and nothing really came out. i took a shower then went back to bed. whatever pain i had was gone right after
got up again at 4am to pee and drink.. then had troulbe falling back to sleep as my body simply doesn't need so much rest. laid in bed maybe an hour more then that was it.
at around 6am went to the bathroom again and sat on the toilet.. Bowel movement was strange. It was very thin and stringy and very black. This shows how much toxins we release from our bodies and how important fasting is to get rid of the excess crap. the junk that came out after 4 days shows you something right there.
appetite today is NIL. the mere thought of food makes me sick. so i'm deep in ketosis. here is the simple reason WHY we lose appetite when in a deep fast like this.. the reason is your body adjusts to conserve energy by slowing down your metabolism and curbing your appetite. your body is burning fat very quickly instead of sugar. also by increasing beta-hydroxybutyrate you reduce the drive to eat. basically my body right now wants to LOOK for food, it doesn't want to eat food. hence why i have trouble sleeping and i have so much adrenaline during a fast. you don't curl up in a ball and suffer in a fast, that is the misconception i've been trying to explain to people for years. think about why. as humans we evolved to be able to go long periods without food, that is how our ancestors survived things that animals like dinosaurs couldn't. dinosaurs had to constantly eat or they would die, but humans and small mammals that we evolved from could go weeks or months with no food. hence why we (as originally small mammals) survived the big meteor strike and dinosaurs couldn't.
also my blood pressure and heart rate are fine today unlike yesterday when i woke up a little elevated. I attribute this to 2 things.
1. on thursday i went to the gym and worked out
2. on thursday i did some gardening midday and sweated
so those put me behind the 8 ball in terms of hydration, hence yesterday waking up with the issues.
last night made sure i hydrated AND i added salt to my drink. that really helped.
Here are my ketones. As you can tell they are high
I'm gonna keep fasting. today i have some things i am gonna do including gardening, going to a museum, and spending time with my family. also gonna be on the road.. the challenge is all the peeing and drinking i will have to keep doing to stay hydrated.
I think many can learn from this log, @ElDurko @Dadbod1996 are fasting now and @Lipster is talking about doing rolling fasts to cut, thank you @stevesmi for the shareI hope everyone is learning something new with this log. i know i've learned a lot myself from a lot of you on here. i've found some awesome recipes and meals, and i've seen some unique training methods and exercises that i've tried. plus especially the aussie guys your diets are amazing! no wonder you all have a far healthier lifestyle then americans. your food is so much healthier
i'm glad its helping people, hearing a lot of feedback. mobster and I on our next podcast will talk more about this log and others

i pissed on the ketone strip at 4am but didn't take the pic for 2 hours. trust me it was DARK RED when i pissed on it. but i needed to go straight to sleep after and didn't have a chance to post it. it had lightened up a bit by the time i took the pic@stevesmi the day sounded good but I think the ketone strips arent showing the full ketogenic state, because you're in medium ketosis on the strips, are you doing magnesium daily?

I've always broken fasts with bone broth. Last couple times was with bone broth and apple cider vinegar mixed in.now what to break the fast with is a great question. keep in mind your digestion system shuts down after about 2 days fasting. so you gotta be careful what you eat first.
5 days is a good time to break the fast, time to cut it @stevesmiday 5.
sleep pretty good. but had to wake up to piss like 4x.. morning bowel movement was NIL. nothing came out at all. so bowels have stopped.
today I am breaking the fast. i think 5 days is good for now.
now what to break the fast with is a great question. keep in mind your digestion system shuts down after about 2 days fasting. so you gotta be careful what you eat first.
i think the consensus out there among the fasting experts with lots of experience is you want to break it with PLAIN broth and/or water fruits. ultimately there isn't a great option, but there is definately less bad options. you break it with something hard to digest and you will regret it. one time i drank a smoothie to break a fast and i was on the ground in the shower in agony, stick to single ingredients each time.. don't throw a bunch of things at once then your stomach will get mad
expect explosive diarhea after your first meal, so don't eat while away from your toilet. you can take some activated charcoal or anti diarhea meds if its too bad. first couple days just be gentle on what you eat. don't throw a ton of food at your stomach. by day 3 after you will be able to start eating your normal diet.
huge training day @stevesmi along with Hot Pilates, you killed itbrutal workouts the last 2 sessions
i did pull day friday night
then saturday morning woke up early and did about 1 hour of cardio THEN did a 1 hour hot pilates class
this morning woke up to sore thighs.. pilates works the CORE, it hits things that we fail to hit with just weight training. i highly recommend doing yoga and pilates once a week adding that to your normal weight training. it will really go a long way at improving your core and balancing things and preventing future injuries
as far as food i did a homemade pizza. used an almond flour crust. vegan cheese on top.. then added brocolli, chicken, and tomatoes. turned out really good as was not heavy on the gut at all.
for dinner made burgers as my food prep which will last days.
enjoy today's nfl games!

Add both next time, I'm a big fan of homemade pizzai added chicken
maybe next time i will add steak
I don’t consume dairyWhy not real organic cheese?vegan cheese gives me gas
Even raw milk dairy?I don’t consume dairy
The vegan cheese I used was high quality. It’s called miyoko mozzarella. It’s got calories but free of junky oils or additives. You gotta read ingredients on these products. Most are junk
I use an app called Yuka to scan them
Zero dairyEven raw milk dairy?
I can respect that, no dairy for the winZero dairy
I have always had a hard time digesting dairy and as we age the ability to digest lactose gets worse. So I simply avoid dairy entirely rather then take enzymes. I think it makes sense to avoid foods your body rejects rather then being gassy and bloated all day.I can respect that, no dairy for the win![]()

Broccoli. Pepper. Vegan cheese. And tomato. On almond flour crust. Taste 1000% better then the fast food pizza people get and this one doesn’t fuck with my stomach at all
