it was really only the Friday that was untracked.

And an untracked day doesn’t mean I throw the baby out with the bath water.

It’s generally either I can’t accurately guess the calories, or just don’t feel like it.

I still make roughly the same food choices and eat a similar volume of food.

The Reta sort of stops me being able to pig out.

Weighed in at 47.7kg on friday, which is a kilo up from last week. As I said last week my weight was up and down so maybe last week was an abnormal low. In any case, I'm not worried. I walked a lot while away, sightseeing. I did dance a good couple hours Friday so there's my cardio - and cause of my sore legs the rest of the weekend!:ROFLMAO:

Saturday - Recovering

I had a big sleep in to recover from the late night. Did lots of walking and hiking to get the blood moving, but it was still a pretty relaxed day.

Sunday - Push

An afternoon session instead of early morning. Felt tough after a tiring weekend with pretty poor nutrition but still got it done!

Love this update! We all need to let our "hair down" and enjoy ourselves every now and again.

The food pics are great, made me hungry!

Lately i've been super bloated which is uncomfortable. My digestion is off which I know is contributing to the bloating and I don't know if that's due to the reduction in reta or just the weekend. 😭

I haven't had digestive issues in months!! I added in some psyllium husk so will keep that up until things are feeling better. 😅

Monday - Lower 1.

Still on 100kg leg press but have worked up to 8 reps now so think next week I'll try the 3 plates (120kg) 💪

Tuesday - Pull.

Despite the bloat and discomfort it was a good workout and progressed in a few of my sets. My hands are getting pretty calloused! Wondering if I should get out my lifting gloves?

Even though i don't regret enjoying myself over the weekend, its been a big motivator to eat alot more nutrient dense foods. Even though my calories were consistent, the different food choices and result is weight changes due to sodium, inflammation of the gut and a variety of other factors.

Plus, you generally FEEL much better on "healthier" foods. Thats why, even on untracked days, i still to similar foods and portion sizes. I want to FEEL and PERFORM good, not just LOOK good (although looking good is nice :LOL:)

So attached is a healthy meal. Chicken quesadilla.

Seems to be a bit of the standard bulking issues. Get stronger and heavier, but get a bit bloated and have gastronomic issues. Unfortunately it is part of the ride until you find your own personal balance 🩵

Hehe you should see my hands. Callouses on callouses. I don’t think the gloves would help much, as you’d still get some friction unless they’re SUPER tight. I just trim/ file mine flat if they’re looking a bit too hectic.

Sorry to hear about the bloat. I don’t have any experience with Reta so I’m not sure if a change in dosing could be the culprit. Psyllium husk and probiotic/ fermented foods are a good call. I find tracking fibre helps (I aim for 35g/ day, but you should trial-and-error to find the amount that works for your digestion & stick to it) 😊

Keep the callouses! They’re a sign of your lifting and hard work, they’re cool to have! 💪🏽💪🏽
I keep mine in check too so they don’t get super haggard, but I also find they’re more beneficial to keep so when you are upping weights or changing movements you don’t re tear your hands.
Personally I think gloves and straps should be an aid when your grip strength no longer keeps up with your lifting strength - ideally you also want to train your grip strength to keep up with you for as long as possible. But not everyone feels the same ☺️

Hopefully the bloating is temporary!
I eat FODMAP friendly foods as my tummy’s a bit sensitive - so I find when I have a relaxed eating weekend I’ll suffer a couple of days after as I’m no longer used to eating those types of foods.
Maybe some peppermint tea could help ease your symptoms?

Nice update. Do you weigh yourself weekly? I'm a fan of daily. I ignore big fluctuations but I like having as much data as possible to see the trend.

Would be interested in seeing the exercises and weights for your workouts.

Sorry to hear about your bloating. We know it might not be a fix and it's not for everyone but we like to add pineapple into some of our meals or at least after for some enzyme to break down high protein meals.
Being acidic though it can cause some problems if sensitive but it does help with us.
Otherwise possible excess carbs, high sodium or hormonal changes (especially in females).
Hope it settles down for you 🙌 great update once again. Always enjoyable reading your updates.
 
Order a bunch of food, try a little of everything, take the rest home for the freezer :LOL:

Im willing to deal with a LITTLE bloat, so long as i keep getting stronger! 💪
Seems to be a bit of the standard bulking issues. Get stronger and heavier, but get a bit bloated and have gastronomic issues. Unfortunately it is part of the ride until you find your own personal balance 🩵

Hehe you should see my hands. Callouses on callouses. I don’t think the gloves would help much, as you’d still get some friction unless they’re SUPER tight. I just trim/ file mine flat if they’re looking a bit too hectic.

Sorry to hear about the bloat. I don’t have any experience with Reta so I’m not sure if a change in dosing could be the culprit. Psyllium husk and probiotic/ fermented foods are a good call. I find tracking fibre helps (I aim for 35g/ day, but you should trial-and-error to find the amount that works for your digestion & stick to it) 😊
Thats what i assumed regarding the gloves. I think they would also mess with my grip. I guess i'll do the same and just file them down if they get too cazzy!

I keep mine in check too so they don’t get super haggard, but I also find they’re more beneficial to keep so when you are upping weights or changing movements you don’t re tear your hands.
Personally I think gloves and straps should be an aid when your grip strength no longer keeps up with your lifting strength - ideally you also want to train your grip strength to keep up with you for as long as possible. But not everyone feels the same ☺️

There is some movements that i think my arms and hands give out before my bodypart that im training does. I haven't had to use straps yet, but its a tool in the bag just in case.

I bet you have some TOUGH battle scars with the BJJ and training you do!

BM are still normal.

The only change was the slight reduction in Reta, and i did have a couple cheat meals over the weekend. It could also be my cycle coming, but thats not for a little while.

The bloat has only been the last couple of days.

I do weigh myself daily, but i only post the weekly update, as the variance is quiet wild during the week.

I do track my workouts in the HEVY app, but i cant figure out a way to export it into text easy. Ill have to give a little breakdown on my workout split!

The klow has been nice to me lately, or i've just stopped caring about it hurting.

The rare times i have a lifting partner i always ask for some candid pics. Its good to show i do actually enter a gym!

I didnt get TOO drunk. The reta really stops me being able to stomach it.

Eating one wing is easy. Like i said, the reta helps keep the moderation in check.

Weighed in at 47.7kg on friday, which is a kilo up from last week. As I said last week my weight was up and down so maybe last week was an abnormal low. In any case, I'm not worried. Its not a HUGE gain but will keep at my target cals this week and see what happens. If I gain above that 100-200g target, I'll pull back calories.

Most of friday was travelling for my weekend away. So i didnt get to do pilates like normal.

Saturday - Recovering

I had a big sleep in to recover from the late night. Did lots of walking and hiking to get the blood moving, but it was still a pretty relaxed day.

An afternoon session instead of early morning. Felt tough after a tiring weekend with pretty poor nutrition but still got it done!

My weight and bloating has been slowly settling down, which is good. I remembered when i first started the Reta, any time i would increase the dose, i would get bloating and a tummy ache, that would eventually subside over time.

I theorise that the same thing might be in effect in reverse? My body is just adjusting.

I'm not much of a social drinker, and especially on the reta its hard to even want to drink. The drinking culture is very big in Australia, so you sort of feel some social pressure to have at least one.

I dont mind a nice tasty cocktail, but its more the laughs and time with friends i enjoy more.

My weight and bloating has been slowly settling down, which is good. I remembered when i first started the Reta, any time i would increase the dose, i would get bloating and a tummy ache, that would eventually subside over time.

I theorise that the same thing might be in effect in reverse? My body is just adjusting.

The body takes weeks to adjust and adapt I found, starting Reta really messed with my gut for awhile but settled after 2-3 weeks

Thats what i assumed regarding the gloves. I think they would also mess with my grip. I guess i'll do the same and just file them down if they get too cazzy!

Girl, you seem to have the nutrition down, so i'll take this advice to heart!

There is some movements that i think my arms and hands give out before my bodypart that im training does. I haven't had to use straps yet, but its a tool in the bag just in case.

I bet you have some TOUGH battle scars with the BJJ and training you do!

I thinking part of being 30...something... means the belly gets a little sensitive. Isn't aging fun! :cry:

BM are still normal.

The only change was the slight reduction in Reta, and i did have a couple cheat meals over the weekend. It could also be my cycle coming, but thats not for a little while.

The bloat has only been the last couple of days.

I do weigh myself daily, but i only post the weekly update, as the variance is quiet wild during the week.

I do track my workouts in the HEVY app, but i cant figure out a way to export it into text easy. Ill have to give a little breakdown on my workout split!

Oh yeah, if it's only been a couple of days then there's every chance that it could just be from the free meals over the weekend, especially with the reta and the way it slows gastric emptying.

Botox, Retinols, Klow, HGH, Red light mask, a bathroom full of various creams.

Then proceed to avoid the sun so no one ever see's me :LOL:

I flexed my arm randomly an noticed a decent "peak to it". I keep getting told that my arms could really blow up if i trained them directly more, but i want to keep a nice balance.

This was only my second time so we'll see how it goes. My first time I started seeing movement again in around the 6 weeks too but was still pretty happy with the results for about 3 months. And now that I've seen how I COULD look, I want that ALL THE TIME!

Another lovely stretch after missing last weekend's class. It was a bit slower and more mobility focused but there were a couple of new moves to challenge me.

Sunday - push.

And push I did. I felt like I progressed in most exercises with ease which is a good feeling. I really want to get the 15kg DB chest press but don't think I can do it solo...:eek:

And still hitting my 8k steps goal - easier to do on the weekend :giggle:

Sleep has been pretty disrupted and there's been lots going on but I'll keep trying to stay on top of things and do what I can to prioritise rest and mental calmness. I'm hearing some interesting things from @RGSX in this space which will be exciting. 😁

Looking good! Food looks good too. Your physique is very similar to my daughter’s. If that means anything I think you should trust the process. You look so healthy, there’s a good chance that food will improve your body composition and less food could be detrimental. I think it’s a good bet :)

Your shoulders have more muscular definition, particularly in the rear delts, arms are bigger in both Tri's and Bi's. Quads have wider sweep and your waist is still super tight. Nothing but good things going on sister....it's working, stay the course your on. 🩵

Nah. Even if you can show a side by side picture where you seem to have less definition now, you could reverse that in a day by manipulating water retention. Which serves no functional purpose btw, except to prove to yourself that you are gaining mostly muscle, which is already proven by your increased strength. I’ve actually just started and things could get really really good if you don’t shout yourself in the foot while looking at the scale

What I imagine you are trying to achieve can’t be done without food. You also want to stay lean, maybe leaner, but I would argue that if you gain more muscle than you do fat, you can gain *some* fat and still beeeee leeeeaaaaner.

I was relatively small my whole life, but with a deceptive amount of muscle from working. I filled out as soon as I learned to eat regularly and I felt and looked so much better! Of course there’s a limit to this. I just don’t think you’re there. I think even if you are eating 50 or 100 calories extra, you’ll grow into the extra food as your training progresses.

I wouldn't be worried about the weight increase at all. As you previously mentioned, your weigh-ins might coincide with peaks or troughs. Definitely best just to focus on the long-term trend. If you continue to be up a significant amount each week for the next few weeks, then you can adjust.

Plus look at the comparison photo to the start of the log:

Your workout here looks good. Some solid progress by the looks of it. Hitting the 12.5's for 10 reps on all 4 sets for incline press means it's probably worth a try at 15's. I'd up to 15 for at least one set (maybe the second set after you get in the groove with the 12.5's on the first. Can then back-off to the 12.5's for the last two.

Those meals all look awesome. Agree homemade burgers are so good.

I can see so much more muscle and definition coming through! I think you’re looking so strong and fit, don’t back it off now!

Would you consider weighing yourself more infrequently? I sometimes get a little caught up on a scale number myself and have to take breaks.

Remember the goal of bulking is to put on mass - you might get some bf increase with all your muscle growth (and it’s most definitely muscle growth!!) but you can strip that off in the next shred phase. It’s a rinse and repeat process! Remember though - the scale increase is predominantly muscle mass which is exactly what you want!

Looking at those numbers you could easily move to 15kgs. Have a crack on one set and see!

Your shoulders are looking capped and rear delts are popping, whatever you’re doing - it’s working, keep going!

Trust the process re: the bulk. You need to eat to gain muscle. Food is anabolic!

It is uncomfortable at times and a bit of a mind f*ck to be gaining weight after you poured so much time and effort into losing it! Especially when the rest of the world is perpetually on a diet (you’ve got me as a bulking buddy though, haha).
My first ever bulk was years ago, and I gained a bit more fat than I was expecting to. But it was fine and it came off quickly and it revealed a lot of new muscle growth underneath.
Your visuals look great and I can’t see any areas of noticeable BF gain! 😊

Your workout here looks good. Some solid progress by the looks of it. Hitting the 12.5's for 10 reps on all 4 sets for incline press means it's probably worth a try at 15's. I'd up to 15 for at least one set (maybe the second set after you get in the groove with the 12.5's on the first. Can then back-off to the 12.5's for the last two.

Those meals all look awesome. Agree homemade burgers are so good.

Would you consider weighing yourself more infrequently? I sometimes get a little caught up on a scale number myself and have to take breaks.

Remember the goal of bulking is to put on mass - you might get some bf increase with all your muscle growth (and it’s most definitely muscle growth!!) but you can strip that off in the next shred phase. It’s a rinse and repeat process! Remember though - the scale increase is predominantly muscle mass which is exactly what you want!

Looking at those numbers you could easily move to 15kgs. Have a crack on one set and see!

I know i need to gain a little BF along with the muscle, its all part of the process. Its just hard when you've spent your adult life trying to be small and petite (almond mums 😅), i freak out at the concept of the scale going the other direction!

So much of the fitness content around women is about getting smaller and losing weight. I suppose you get your mind warped into thinking thats why you do this at all.

The whole reason i got so small and lean was so i had a good base to increase the food and weight. I need to remember that and stay the course!

Another lovely stretch after missing last weekend's class. It was a bit slower and more mobility focused but there were a couple of new moves to challenge me.

Questioning myself on the plan to bulk thinking I've put too much weight on already. Trying to stay positive and remind myself it's part of the plan. 🙏

Sleep has been pretty disrupted and there's been lots going on but I'll keep trying to stay on top of things and do what I can to prioritise rest and mental calmness. I'm hearing some interesting things from @RGSX in this space which will be exciting. 😁

Imagine being in America. It’s men too. Anything marketed as “healthy” is basically devoid of calories and nutrients… which is the whole point of eating hahaha. In the earliest phase of myself attempting to be healthier, I lost so much weight and was sooooo hangry and I was getting injured because my body could not keep up with demand.

Objectively, and respectfully, you already look fantastic. You’re very petite, everyone likes that hahaha. You’re in a very enviable position in that you can put on as much muscle as you are naturally (or a little more than that hahaha) able to and you’ll just keep looking and feeling better and better :)

Feel like I'm coming down with something in the last couple days. Hopefully it doesn't progress! Nothing is worse than waking up with a sore throat, drinking some water and it DOESNT go away. I cant get sick, im making too much progress.

I've been researching how melatonin is an anti-oxidant, that when it get broken down in the body, it breaks down into more anti-oxidants. Maybe a melatonin serve tonight will help keep me fit and healthy and keep the sickness at bay. Otherwise im happy to spend some time on the couch and relax with a face mask for a day or 4 :LOL:

I can pretty confidently do the 8 assisted pull ups with the lightest band at my gym but there's no thinner bands so I don't know where to go next. Dead hangs?

No PBs for this session after a pretty bad sleep. Woke in the very early hours and couldn't get back into a deep sleep. @RGSX are generously going to share some of their sleep range with me which I'm so excited for. A tonne of research and hard work has gone into this!

Still hitting the 8k steps. The walking pad has been a great investment!

Super inspired by @Alice_In_Ironland growth phase. Seeing how her body changed and still kept the feminine lines has really got the fire going to add more lean tissue. I really appreciated the support of everyone else too, it was honestly the nicest thing. You get stuck in your own head sometimes and you need people to shake you out of it.

I’m flattered to be thought of at all 🫶🏼

Dead hangs are good - I went about pull ups a little differently. (If you want to try the panda method 🐼)
You’ll probably find that you are strong enough to execute the top range of a pull up - it’s just the bottom range (arms stretched out) where it’s hard to move through initially.

I started by doing a pull up in the top range and lowering to a full hang until I could do both (the lowering helps build those small muscles that fire the bottom range)
So for example if you stand on a bench to start your pull up so your arms aren’t fully extended - then lower to a full extended hang.
That way you’ll also be correcting your technique in the pull up - bands tend to be a different movement so it’s not always easy to step from one straight into the other.

I can pretty confidently do the 8 assisted pull ups with the lightest band at my gym but there's no thinner bands so I don't know where to go next. Dead hangs?

No PBs for this session after a pretty bad sleep. Woke in the very early hours and couldn't get back into a deep sleep. @RGSX are generously going to share some of their sleep range with me which I'm so excited for. A tonne of research and hard work has gone into this!

Super inspired by @Alice_In_Ironland growth phase. Seeing how her body changed and still kept the feminine lines has really got the fire going to add more lean tissue. Feel like I'm coming down with something in the last couple days. Hopefully it doesn't progress! Nothing is worse than waking up with a sore throat, drinking some water and it DOESNT go away. I cant get sick, im making too much progress.

I've been researching how melatonin is an anti-oxidant, that when it get broken down in the body, it breaks down into more anti-oxidants. Maybe a melatonin serve tonight will help keep me fit and healthy and keep the sickness at bay. Otherwise im happy to spend some time on the couch and relax with a face mask for a day or 4 :LOL:

Try some negatives with the pull-ups 0 if you are at 8 with the lightest band you are progressing well. Just cheat to get to the top and lower slowly and fully then repeat. YOu will be smashing those pull-ups in no time.

Dead hangs are good - I went about pull ups a little differently. (If you want to try the panda method 🐼)
You’ll probably find that you are strong enough to execute the top range of a pull up - it’s just the bottom range (arms stretched out) where it’s hard to move through initially.

I started by doing a pull up in the top range and lowering to a full hang until I could do both (the lowering helps build those small muscles that fire the bottom range)
So for example if you stand on a bench to start your pull up so your arms aren’t fully extended - then lower to a full extended hang.
That way you’ll also be correcting your technique in the pull up - bands tend to be a different movement so it’s not always easy to step from one straight into the other.
The @Panda22 method speaks for itself. You can't deny your results!

I've noticed I've been very tense the last few days. My eye has been twitching and I've noticed I'm unconsciously clenching my jaw. I need to do some meditation or something to relax! 😭

I did take a day off on Wednesday. I woke up from a rough sleep feeling lethargic. My body would barely walk me around the house so I took the day off to nap and chill and felt so much better for it. I'm still tense but am functioning! 😂
