Veteran Log Why fasting helps you live longer, helps build more muscle. and my prolong fast LOG

today i did some cardio in the morning fasted. i got 2.5 pounds of beef and cooked them up along with some potatoes. food prep will last 3 days on those.

took care of a lot of errands and most importantly got a very nice 2 hour nap midday.

i like to take a 2-3 hour nap sometimes on the weekends. it really goes a long way at repairing the body and i have that luxury to be able to do that unlike other people who overload their lives way too much.

i think as you get older naps make more and more sense. i used to NEVER take naps but the body really needs that extra sleep once you start getting close to and past 50 years old
 
Had a sick workout this morning and got some sweet potatoes and beef to grill up. Will cook the sweet potatoes in the air fryer

I really like to take naps as well, especially as I've gotten older really helps with the recovery.

I had some vicious workouts the past week and my hemmorhoids ended up coming back strong. back when i powerlifted in my 30's i would get them after a tough deadlifting or squat day. when you strain a lot they tend to rear their ugly head. They kept getting worse and worse and it became painful to have a bowel movement.

So guess what I did? I fasted. Fasting is a great way to fix hemmorhoids because it will slow down your bowel movements and obviously there will be way less volume and #'s of bowel movements to give the anus a break. I usually have 3 bowel movements per day. 2 minimum. When you fast for a day the volume will drop and # of times will drop.

So in my situation. 3 day fast easy

Sunday fasting i had 2 bowel movements..
Monday I only had 1 bowel movement
Tuesday I had 0 bowel movements.
Broke my fast today at lunch then had a bowel movement an hour ago. zero hemmorhoids or pain.

no medicine needed
no doctor visits
no putting your ass in hot water solution that costs $30 from the drug store and all these other remedies that people will try.

just fasting which costs nothing. NOTHING and cured.

fasting can fix a lot of issues out there and this is just one of them.

Another thing I have seen lately is people asking about breads that are healthy.
Well I found a really good one that scans 90% on Yuka recently that i wanted to share and has all natural ingredients made from millet. zero digestion issues with it and it tastes amazing.
here is a picture of it. its a great option, i have been making it with eggs and making sandwiches out of it. i even use it for my burgers too and it tastes amazing you wouldn't even know the difference between it and the typical crap white bread people usually eat.

So I wanted to start up a thread on fasting that is based on science and not bro science and present some interesting information on studies that showed how effective fasting is. Obviously Rick and I have put up a lot of content on the podcast on it and of all the things we talk about the #1 questions we get is about steroid use of course but the 2nd is Fasting. this has been somthing that has been growing ever since Big Ramy and the other middle east bloc of bodybuilders who have been dominating the sport and will continue dominating have implemented fasting in their protocols. We all know they spend a month out of the year fasting but they also all do fasted workouts and fasted cardio.

I'm going to be posting info and studies and guiding you through the benefits and why it happens. this is going to be Fasting 101 class and not a thread of #Trustmebro. I'm also going to be doing a Mon-Friday fast during this thread

the study was done on both rodents AND humans found:

fasting for two days protected healthy cells against the toxicity of chemotherapy, while the cancer cells stayed sensitive. Ok so you will be fasting 5 days a week for a while every week?
I do all kinds of fasting.

from time restricted eating
to 24 hour fasts
to 36 hours fasts.

to prolong fasting for days and even up to 19 days.

it varies a lot. but i am consistent with daily time restricted eating. i never eat before 10 or 11am. and usually eat my first meal around 2pm or later.
 
the next series i need to go over before i get into the more specific fasting info is what breaks a fast. if you aren't going to do fasting correctly then you won't get the benefits.

i'm gonna go over supplements and drinks in this post

A: BCAA's

we all agree most supplements break a fast. i mean things like protein powder are obvious. but after the supplement businessmen got into the fasting fitness world now they want to push other supplements that they claim are okay during a fast. the main one i hear most is BCAA's. they claim they don't have calories which is a lie right off the bat. but regardless they most certainly destroy your fast in many ways

the biggest obvious red flag is that they spike insulin and kick you out of ketosis. which is kind of the point of fasting ;)
leucine stimulates glucose uptake for an hour, but hey you can try it out yourself if you don't believe me. grab some ketone strips and piss on them while you are in a deep fast and then take bcaa's and then watch your ketones crater on your next few pisses. so why would you go through the trouble of getting into ketosis to just ruin it for nothing? not to mention studies have shown your amino acids circulate more in the body while in ketosis. so not only are you kicking yourself out of ketosis by supplementing bcaa's but you are also actually lowering the amount by supplementing them. this is one of the things i have to smack my head against the wall on with people cause they don't understand that sometimes certain supplements actually hurt you more than help you. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6761185/

another study that was done on a man who fasted 50 days. his ketones were high obviously and he took some insulin (please don't try this at home) around 8IU's worth. what happened was interesting so pay attention to the next link, but i will summarize as best i can and you will love this
for the next half hour his blood sugar and ketones crashed and there was a uptake of ketones in the brain while ketone production was halted. the guy didn't even eat or drink anything and it still happened!! so yes you can still kick yourself out of ketosis even while in a deep fasted state even without eating, all it takes is that slight insulin spike. so the lesson here is don't inject, eat, or drink anything that breaks a fast or you will interrupt it.

COFFEE/TEA beverages

this leads me to the next thing which is is coffee/tea, etc. okay on a fast. unfortunately if you want to get the most out of your fast the answer is absolutely not. coffee and tea still have calories in them, albeit tiny amounts. so you will be interrupting your fast if you consume them, even if it is for an hour or two. is it the end of the world? no. is it optimal? no. is it going to interrupt your fast? YES.

MULTI VITAMINS

the next one is multi vitamins. this one should be obvious if you understand what fasting is all about. but if you aren't that knowledgeable on fasting you might think 'hey i need my vitamins during a fast right?'.. well WRONG. the whole reason behind a fast is to STRESS YOUR BODY OUT to make it stronger. when you weight train that is what you do to your muscle to make it stronger. the body is the same way with fasting. so throwing vitamins at your body makes zero sense. but let's talk about the science. SIRT's are longevity genes that get triggered while fasting. when you take an antioxidant it actually blocks that trigger effect and the vitamin takes over. so the body becomes weaker cause it is depending on the vitamin and not the actual body cells to do the work. also most vitamins work better with food anyway, so save them for during your eating window and DO NOT TAKE THEM while in your fasting window. so i hope this makes sense why taking multi vitamins on a fast are a bad idea so please don't do it!

Hey bro concerning coffe and the I’ve always red and heard that if you drink those black it won’t be an issue..And I’ve honestly always been during my 5 days fasts drank black coffe an the thinking it was ok..But maybe I was wrong…Who knows maybe I would have had even better results with out those…For me coffe tho is a hard thing to stop..I actually get withdraw simpyoms if I stop it to drastically..Like ounce I had pain in my upper back ,like an intense burning sensation under my right scapula..As soon as I drank a little cup of coffe it disappeared..that’s how I discovered it was the withdraw of the coffe that provoqued that issue/pain..So anyways was wondering if you have any info to back up that coffe or the even black will break the fast ..?would be really interressed in having info on that so I can next time I do a fast have good reasons not to drink coffe…?
 
the next study i wanted to have you take a look at will really piss off the meatheads. it shows that fasting will burn fat and also protect muscle tissue. in this study people (not rodents and not mice) fasted for 70 days. keep in mind this was NOT obese people who just got starved into caloric deficits, these are average joes who worked out and were in decent shape and included seasoned athletes who live for working out like us. it wasn't a study with just 8 fat people who starved themselves and lost weight. so that flies in the face of the theory that only fat people can lose fat with fasting. it took me some time to find this study cause it was buried on the internet (of course it pisses off supplement companies, food industry, and every meathead out there who wants to sell their bullshit $300 diet plans) but i will continue posting it over and over and over again to get it more looks.



to translate over the course of 70 days subjects lost an average of 4cm off their waist, that is a lot but it isn't like they turned into famined skinny people who look like they have a muscle wasting disease (sorry meatheads)

they overall lost an average of 6kg of fat mass and their fat free mass was flat. so did they GAIN muscle? no they didn't. but they also did NOT lose it. so they lost a boatload of fat and their muscle mass stayed the same. please tell me any time of PED free diet that can achieve this? it doesn't exist. you eat in a deficit you will lose both muscle and fat. you follow IIFYM you end up spinning your wheels. etc. so fasting is the absolute best way to recomp.

*** also i have to note that i read through the study and nothing else changed here, they ate the same foods, they had the same workout routines (or in some cases didn't workout if that is their lifestyle), if they drank soda, coffee, water etc. that didn't change. all that changes was they implemented fasting. so imagine someone who ate and trained optimally. it is something Rick brings up a lot since he does like to indulge in fast food, coffee, and sugars on occasion and still stays skinny year round thanks to his fasting

so how would you reading this benefit from this as someone who has a top notch training and diet already? you can do what we all love doing!! you could get even better results by following this type of fasting and add in some PED's to it.

now hypothetically let's say you wanted to take a break from PED's you could also do this for general health reasons and then once you complete the fast then hop on a cycle in top shape and really shred up! there are different ways to do it

let's say you wanted to recomp the shit out of your body. you would fast on day 1, feed on day 2, fast on day 3, etc. for 30 days, 60 days, etc. what i would do is take GW and do a light dose of test, EQ/primo, and var (optional). those 4 together. keep your workouts at 70% on feeding days and on fasting days do some light cardio.

you would transform yourself into an absolute freak doing that. you wouldn't blow up huge, but you would get absolutely ripped to shreds and have the best body of your life. and most importantly your

however i have clients who are stim junkies who i still fast and i allow them to have a half cup of coffee plain and they still get great results fasting. unfortunately sounds like you are addicted to caffeine/stims and the only way to cure that is to gradually lower the amount you drink over time which is a separate thing. the good news is fasting is a great way to cure addictions.

what you are describing is alternate day fasting and it would be tremendous for you.

you can either start a new log or just change up your current log when you do it

Yea I did lower my consumption before but always eventually start drinking it again..lowest i went was 1 cup/day ..i am very disciplined with food ,training,fasting etc but it seems that coffee for me is very hard to stop..one of the only things that o have a hard time with ..it is indeed a real drug in my opinion…much harder for me to stop then weed or alcool or gluten witch I pretty much can stop and control with no issue..but coffee is the tuff one for me…

I found a new secret fishing spot that I am going to try so we will see if it pays off. we will see what happens I will post up some pics during April and you will see.

This week I did cardio everyday. Worked out 3x including yesterday for 1 hour each. good training sessions.
Today will be my only rest day (i still plan on going for a walk) and I am going to be BBQ'ing some sirloin. check for pics below. also will food prep some rice, potatoes, and veggies and box them up for the next few days.

I've talked about food prep a lot with people as its very crucial. many people are failing to food prep and its not good at all. they are ordering food off their app to get it delivered and that food is horrible for your health. food prep is the secret and I do it twice a week. never depend on others to prep your food, gotta do it yourself with quality ingredients.

Not really a hobby but i try and help people in need when i am out and about in my daily life like the podcast said a hand up in life we all need one at one point or another. Food looks fantastic Steve 💪

very nice man, i will talk about this subject more on the podcast and i'm glad its motivated others to do what you are doing. it boggles the mind how we as a society give billionaires welfare and more money but treat our poor like crap. it's very disturbing and shows a lack of intelligence and empathy for each other.

when i see legit homeless people i always give them food or i give them money and tell them to go buy food with it. got a ton of homeless people in my area since its a warm climate year round. my grocery store i shop at is near a major intersection and a lot of homeless transients hang around there and have their suitcases with them. they are legit homeless and the only thing they own is what is in that 1 suitcase it is crazy. in all my years i've had 1 homeless person yell at me to leave them alone when i've offered, the lady had major mental issues and it is very sad and she didn't mean to be like that as she didn't know any better. but the rest have all been very thankful for a help crying and thanking me as 50 other people just walk past them which is fucking pathetic.

i also give fish i dont eat to the homeless cats in my neighborhood and the scraps. its a win/win for all

part of this log about fasting is being appreciative that none of us on this forum (atleast i would hope if you are spending your $$$ on steroids) ever has to go hungry. so fasting voluntarily is very important not just for our health but also as good karma to make us appreciate what we have even more and its a good way to tap into our spirituality no matter what your beliefs are.

Unfortunately fishing season has been a BUST so far. worst fishing year I have ever seen in my life. not sure what is going on? its not just me, literally nobody is catching a thing this year. it sucks bigtime cause spring and fall are the only 2 good times of the years. likely due to the very warm oceans driving fish offshore or to the north. there is probably 1-2 weeks left and then that will be it for the spring run. last week I caught 1 fish only which is horrible

I attended a regional meet today. It was cool seeing the competition. Some very strong kids for sure. They keep getting stronger and stronger and the competition gets tougher and tougher. the big boys were benching close to 400 which is pretty sick for 17/18 year olds who weight train part time and likely play sports like football.

also did a lot of yard work today. carried bags of rocks and 18x18 tiles and covered a yard. that was a workout in itself. will be back at it tomorrow with a mid day workout

Hey mate, just checking its OK to continue using hgh while Fasting?
@Freki when you fast your hgh will rise during the fast. so hgh wouldn't even be necessary to use until you break your fast. but if you want to use it during the fast it is fine. hgh is a pulse, its not a hormone that has to build up in your system

What i didn't want was the exogenous hgh to stop the natural fasting surge from happening, I suppose no tests have ever been done so all speculation.

@Freki nope, it won't effect it. your natural hgh runs inverse to insulin. so if anything not only with your hgh rise, but adding more exogenous hgh will make it rise even higher.

Haven’t noticed a ton of appetite suppression yet maybe a little. I have noticed if I overeat I feel a bit full/nauseous. This is good. So far I like this stuff a lot. Anything that can give you steady fat loss without causing sides is fantastic

half the fish are in the jack family. that would be blue runner jack and pompano jack

the other fish are called bluefish and there is 1 fish that is spikey which i am not sure what its called officially but the locals call it 'threadfins' cause they have spikes.
